The plastic mess isn't that thick so I'm not sure if it'd be sturdy enough for a beardie. It might work if you use a ton more suction cups or attach it to the wall in a more secure way.

Formaldehyde is used in the manufacture of composite wood products like hardwood plywood etc. The smell will eventually come off (off-gases) and you may unbox the item in an open area and let it sit for a few days.
