Klipsch Sub-12HG Synergy Series 12-Inch 300-Watt Subwoofer with High Gloss Trim (Black)

I have the SW450 (10 inch version) for 15 years and still works. I sold it to my dad and bought a his one. This down firing subwoofer is great for movies and gaming. It has the bass you feel and hear. It absolutely rumbles. I’m using it with my Klipsch ICON VF35 floor speakers and its a perfect match. Living in an apartment with a neighbor below you, and this subwoofer, will get you some noise complaints. Well worth the money and complaints for gamers and movie lovers. 2 of these subwoofers in a surround sound setup would be amazing. A cheap DIY isolator, I’m using a concrete paver and a some dense foam furniture sliders from X-Protectors in between the paver and subwoofer. The sliders under the paver is for moving it to find the sweat spot and will be removed.

I did a half sized audio upgrade recently. I kept a few speakers but purchased 3 new ones including this subwoofer. Most importantly, I purchased a desperately needed new A/V receiver to replace a 15 year old outdated one. I am thrilled with my new A/V little upgrade. This subwoofer really completed the package. I thought the price was a steal given the power/precision and quality of sound. I am no audiophile so keep this in mind when reading my review. I am just not of the type of person who can distinguish between something that costs 3-5 times more than this subwoofer with similar specs. All I know is that this thing is a beast and I actually have to keep it at about 50% of its power given that anything more is almost too much for the dimensions of the room my TV and system is in. For me, personally, if my room was twice as big as it currently is, this subwoofer would still have all the power of bass I need. My system is an all around everyday system meaning I use it to listen to music; however, I would say it's primary function is for watching media. Again, for my purposes, this thing sounds awesome. It's footprint is a little on the large size but I don't find this too troublesome and it looks elegant enough to not be an eyesore in our living room. I was surprised this particular model has been discontinued by Klipsch and is a model which is a few years old. I don't know why, because, as I said, I am finding it to be solid; however, technology is like that. Companies are always changing their series of products, etc. Rest assured though, this unit came packaged as brand new in its original retail packaging. Bottom line: this thing completely rocks, has lots of power to spare, and the bass is very responsive. Lastly, one final note: this unit represents the first time I've owned a downward firing subwoofer. I think I like it. I have hardwood flooring and I enjoy the rumbling coming from the floor upward. With front or rear facing firing subs, it has been my experience that the bass rumbling reverberates off the walls more and then spreads out. I kinda like the floor reverberation and moving upward sound and feel better I think. Good purchase!

I will try to keep this short and simple for those of you looking for the nitty gritty of this sub. I have this sub hooked up to a Pioneer Elite VSX-44 and it sounds phenomenal! It has good low sound range (from lows to the low lows - similar to the lows that you feel in your chest, not so much what you an hear). I have it paired with old Sony satellite (in the process of upgrading as well) speakers and have not been disappointed yet. A bit on the sub itself. Two knobs on the back let you adjust the gain and frequency. Out of the box, both were set in the middle and it was deep and loud. There are 2 inputs, that allow you to set up the sub in a couple of different configurations, although I'm sure the typical set up will be with one dedicated channel from your receiver for the SW out (which you plug into the L channel). The included instructions will tell you the hook up options. There is also an auto on/off feature which turns the sub on/off based on if the sub is getting a signal or not. I have used this feature, but not exactly sure I like it? I think there is a delay in which it turns on, once it gets a signal? I personally think this is a great feature since it eliminates the need to remember to turn your sub on/off each time you want to use it - however, I'd want it to be more like instant on/off? The product description does not indicate this but this sub was released in 2005 or 2006 from Klipcsh so be aware of that if you are in to buying the latest and greatest electronics. One bad thing about this sub are the feet. Mine arrived with one broken (be it rough handling during shipping or bad packaging). I did however register the sub online via Klipcsh website and called tech support the moment I got it. They were kind enough to send me out 4 new feet for the sub (they did ask where I got it from and the serial number and all and seemed a bit surprised that Amazon.com was still selling this sub). At any rate, I highly recommend this sub if you are looking for a nice upgrade to your current sound system. While I think there are plenty of better (high end) subs out there, I think this can and will give any high end sub a run for its money. I may even end up getting a second one (because my receiver lets me add 2 subs).

I've been using this subwoofer for multiple applications in an apartment, and believe it's an astounding value at its current price or little bit less (like I got) should you know how to utilize it. This is best used for small to medium rooms, and for a medium large room you may benefit more from multiples. After doing some room calibration with a PEQ eliminating the room modes the sub has proven able to be both authoritative and musical without a hint of struggle in my smaller apartment. There is no port "boom" or flabby sound from this - anyone that claims such is likely mistaking room acoustic issues for the sub as they are exciting modes they didn't have before. In some ways this is a testament to the lower output from the sub being capable, but I digress. However, it's not a perfect sub. It will not reach down to 20hz, it mostly rolls off at around 30hz. For true 20hz performance there are better subs out there - given at twice the cost this is currently going for. Equally, most cheaper subs tend to roll-off around 40hz so this is pretty solid competition in price to performance at its current going cost. There might be some cheaper or similarly priced/better solutions if you're willing to DIY - but many here likely won't have the patience or time (at the time I myself did not). Effectively the only downfalls of this is the limited output for medium large and greater room and the size - unfortunately good ported subs require the enclosure to be large, so this isn't the fault of the sub or a bad thing, but rather expected of competent design. So where does that leave us? Well, it's definitely not a five star product as the value isn't off the charts but is rather reasonable at it's current level (and would be unreasonable at MSRP). On the other hand, I can't think of a budget commercial sub that is quite comparable making it probably one of the top budget subs to have. As such I think it deserves a solid 4/5.

Growing up I have always been into home theater sound and loud music. I started it out with some off brand speakers given to me. Klipsch in my opinion is an awesome brand. Their products are solid, reputable and sound great. Before this Klipsch subwoofer I was using an Infinity system. Before I ever considered buying Klipsch or any other brand of speakers, at the time I only knew Infinity and I thought that was awesome. I still have the Infinity Total Speaker Solution (TSS-1200) speaker package, It sounds good and the subwoofer was deep and clean. I took a jump and went with Klipsch after I was sold a 5.0 Klipsch Quintet III speaker package. Not knowing much about Klipsch, I pulled these speakers (Quintet) for $150 brand new in the box from craigslist. I hooked up them up to my receiver a Harman Kardon AVR 1600 and they sounded awesome. At the time I left my Infinity subwoofer and still sounded very decent. After researching, checking on forums and reviews I knew I wanted more Klipsch speakers because of my experience using them. I knew I wanted to buy a Klipsch brand sub to pair the quintet system. Being a hard working guy, sometimes I could not justify wanting to spend 250-300 on just one item, like a subwoofer. But the day came, I kept checking on Slickdeals to see if any Klipsch subs would be on sale. I purchased this Klipsch Sub-12HG Synergy Series 12-Inch on sale for $200 with free shipping. Man you cannot beat that, knowing what I know now!!! Excited like a little kid on Christmas morning, when the box arrived I could not wait to hear the bass on this sub. I was surprised on the size of it, this is one bulky monster. Nevertheless, it did not disappoint!!!! The bass on this woofer is amazing, it will literally make the walls rattle. I live in an apartment, I have the bass level on negatives on my receiver, and still this subwoofer hits clean and deep. I mean just very awesome sounds on lows and on point bass. I sampled a couple songs and I heard some lows that my other woofer would have never sounded or picked up. This is an amazing subwoofer, considering my circumstances and what I paid for it. Don't get me wrong, as I really mean this...this subwoofer is worth 300-400 dollars easy. If you ever get a chance to buy under $250 its a deal, anything under $200 its a steal for this sub. If you're looking for mid range price subwoofer I very much recommend this one. Of course there are higher end subs that can go to the 500+ price range. I myself have not made it up that latter, so I will stick to what I know. Consider yourself warned, bass that will shake any form of room made with drywall, this is a bulky item!!!! lol

My home theater setup: * Television: Sharp 90-inch LC-90LE657 1080p 3D LCD panel * Receiver: Pioneer VSX-1123K (1155 Watts of Power) * Main Speakers: Sony SSF-5000s * Center Channel Speaker: Cerwin Vega XLS-6C * Surround Speakers: Fluance AVBP2 Bipolar Surround Sound Speakers * Rear Surround Speakers: Dual Indoor/Outdoor Speakers I just hooked this subwoofer up yesterday and boy was I amazed. I read all the reviews and I did my homework properly. My family room is approximately 15 by 25-feet. Because my family room is carpeted, I used an extra tile that I had to place the subwoofer on, particularly because it is downfiring. I wanted the sound to reverberate off the hard surface. Next, I strategically placed the sub behind my couch, nullifying the need to worry about the annoying blue power light problem. Then I wired my main speakers to the subwoofer, directly piggy-backing off the wiring from the speakers to my receiver, using banana plugs from the main speakers right to the high-level input on the subwoofer. This setup allows me to have full control over bass level and gain controls (as opposed to having the receiver manage these controls using the LFE port). It also drives more base from the subwoofer to the main speakers. Once everything was setup, I just sat back and rattled the house. This thing is so powerful that you can actually feel it in your chest, and I only have it at half power. This is exactly what I was looking for. I had actually just purchased a subwoofer a couple months ago (an entry level Sony SA W2500). Not to take anything away from the Sony sub, as it is a decent, entry level subwoofer. Yet and still, I just required more bass. I moved the Sony sub into the garage, along with my old receiver, and I will now have a decent stereo setup in there as well. After replacing my receiver, I just knew I needed a solid subwoofer to deliver the kind of power that I demand while watching movies, and I now possessed the power to drive any decent sub out there. After some diligent research, I settled on the Klipsch and I'm not at all disappointed. My wife and I are having a movie party at our house next month. They want to check out our new 90-inch Sharp TV, but I can't wait to blow them away with my 7.1 channel surround system, featuring this BEAST! I recommend this Klipsch Sub-12HG Synergy Series 12-inch 300-Watt subwoofer to anyone that truly loves bass.

I'll start by saying I'm not an average joe when it comes to sound quality, I'm somewhat of an audiophile on a lower budget. That being said I'm super impressed with the sound this thing pushes out. Just for your guys info I have heard super expensive high end subwoofer like the HSU VTF-3 MK5 HP which is a monstrous 15'' inch subwoofer with 600 continuous watts with 2000 watts short term ported to go down to 17hz (which is inaudible but definitely felt!). That subwoofer of course sounds amazing super clean and tight but also destroys the low bass notes in movies. An example of this in action is the opening scene of The Edge of Tommorow that is a great subwoofer test. But! To stay on topic the Klipsch performs great FOR THE PRICE that is the key here. Sound: This thing pounds! Its too much for my little room at the moment, but that's ok you can always turn it down. I have the gain set less than halfway. I will say that it can be a little boomy but that could be my position in the room or because my room is too small. But this subwoofer can produce nice clean low bass the kind of bass that makes the walls shake and your seat vibrate. It is not the best for music as it does not seem to be as clean and tight. But I expected this due to the ported design. This sub is made for the most output as possible for the money. I am using this for a home theater and it is wonderful. Look: It is kind of an eye sore with the legs the way they are, but again who cares I want bass its not a fashion statement. Setup: No problems... pretty much common sense. Auto on feature works as its supposed to. Gain set at less than halfway. Crossover set at highest point as I use my receiver to control X-over point. Overall outstanding subwoofer, I will soon be moving and I will have my own dedicated theater room which is at least twice the size of my room now. Later down the road I plan on purchasing another one(even though I probably wont need it lol) of these to add to my system to close out any potential dead spots and add to the mayhem.

As advertised
