Decent
This Hartz UltraGuard flea and tick collar works decently as a basic preventative option. It’s easy to put on, adjustable for growing kittens or adult cats, and claims 7 months of protection, which is convenient. I noticed it did help reduce fleas on my cat during a mild infestation. However, it’s not nearly as effective as topical treatments or higher-end collars. It took a couple of weeks to really see results, and it didn’t completely eliminate the problem. The smell is quite strong at first (though it does fade), and I was a bit concerned about the chemical content. It’s an affordable choice for light flea pressure or as a backup, but for serious infestations or sensitive cats, I’d look for something stronger. Overall, it’s an okay budget collar that gets partial results.

WORKS WELL
GOOD VALUE. IT'S SUMMER TIME. SEEMS TO DO THE TRICK FOR MY INDOOR/OUTDOOR CAT. HOWEVER, I REPLACED IT AFTER 3 MO, NOT 7, AS SHE WAS STARTING TO SCRATCH MORE. HADN'T SEEN FLEAS YET NOR TICKS BUT I DIDNT WANT TO EITHER. NO APPARENT SKIN IRRITATION.

Works as expected
A few things to address when assessing this product and the other reviews: 1) If you do some research on the internet, you will realize that different flea medications work better in different areas. Advantage did not work for us. Front line does. Just because this product may not work for your pet doesn't mean it's faulty or expired. 2) If your pet already has fleas, this product takes at least three applications before it will start to work effectively. Our cat did have fleas and it took three applications. Fleas are no joke and always take time to get under control. Just because they don't disappear overnight doesn't mean it is faulty or expired. 3) Fleas can become immune. Doesn't mean the product is faulty or expired. 4) It is toxic, obviously. There is a risk your pet could have a serious adverse reaction. It is a pesticide for goodness sake. You are taking a chance and weighing your options. It doesn't make you a terrible person if you have circumstances where your pet having fleas would be terrible - like if you have a newborn or an infant and your pet is hellbent on going outside anyway. So there's all that. With that being said, frontline is the only medication that works for us. We only use it half of the year and start it early enough to be effective by peak flea months, though the product recommends year round applications.

PLEASE BEWARE
Bought Hartz because I thought I was getting a good deal , 2 collars in a pack & 7 month protection for fleas. Packaged arrived Feb 26 and I put one on each of my cats, male and female. I made sure there was a finger space in between their neck as well so it wasn’t too tight. I noticed some discomfort in my male cat when I first put it on but I figured it was because he is not used to wearing collars. I was checking both of their necks periodically just to make sure they were okay but mostly just the top part of their neck ( HUGE MISTAKE 😩) Today is March 3rd , and as I was petting my male cat , I noticed he was missing some hair where the collar sits on the top of his neck. After further inspection, I realized my poor baby has what looks like a huge chemical burn on the lower part of his neck. I took the collar off immediately, cleaned the area and applied Ointment. I went to inspect my female cat as well and although there is irritation around the collar area , thankfully no burns. I believed the only reason she was spared was because she has so much hair then my male cat but even so, I removed the collar immediately. I feel like a terrible person putting my cats through this pain and experience. I understand that what they need to put in the collars has to be strong enough to kill fleas, but that also means it can burn their skin. Not worth the risk !!! Research alternatives!!!

Works better than topical!
The topicals stuff were not working on my cats. I used to use the Advantix II and they still had fleas. Theses were a game changer! I used them all year long as they are for 7 months. I change them out at the 6 month mark cause it’s easier to remember. But no more fleas and I’m only dealing with my cats twice a year lol

Ok
I bought two of these for both of my cats! It worked fine on one of them but the other one. I think she had allergic reaction to it because she lost her fur around her neck and her skin was raw and Skelly. So if you get these just watch your cat and keep checking and make sure they're not having a reaction to it.

Great bang for you buck
After giving our cat a flea treatment and the two flea baths over a 3 week period, we then followed up with this collar that he wears 24/7. It seems to effectively keep the pests to a minimum and I love that it can be worn up to 7 months. My cat does tend to clean himself excessively right around bedtime because I think he’s not a fan of the odor. But I enjoy the scent and that it’s soft and easily adjustable. He does still scratch here and there but it’s minimal compared to when he was pretty infested… This is a pet staple in my household!

Seems to work well.
Ensure you clean your cat of all fleas before you put the collar on. If the cat is heavy flea infested already its not expected to be as effective. The only issue I feel is a strong fragrance which is good for me but I am not sure how the cat is dealing with it.
