Great story, great pace , great characters
Story comes out in very measured steps which keeps it so interesting. It just predictable enough so that I felt I was putting the pieces together correctly but always a major twist coming at you.

Looks Like The Beginning of a Great Series
Twists and turns that keep you reading through and through. Can’t wait to read the next one!

Excellent SF
Very good plot line with excellent highlights. Characters do exactly what they are supposed to do, when they are supposed to do it.The Way the story is told, it begs you to read on.

Couldn’t put this book down.
This was a fast paced book that will be hard to put down. There is no bad language, which I think enhances the experience. Everything an action sci/fi should be. I highly recommend this book.

Good, but not Great.
I've read everything in the book series to date. Overall it is good. Characters are relatable even if the situation's they find themselves in aren't. Unfortunately I have to say that the book is the literary equivalent of the Marvel movies. It just doesn't say much. Yes there is a story with frankly excellent writing, and character development, but there is no thematic meat. The series doesn't ask questions and it expects no answers. It's somewhat mindless. It's not meant to provoke thought. It's lacking depth. It's falls short of it's sci-fi roots in that respect. It's got the body, the shell of Sci-fi, but not the soul. It's the literary equivalent of a snickers bar. It tastes good, but the only nutritional value is calories, or in this case word count. That said, The book still does get 4 stars, because despite the fact that the book has no strong thematic elements it does have some excellent characterization. The main character has led a black ops squad for most of his life, and has recently been on a mission that went south real fast. So he is unwillingly shipped off on humanities first attempt at colonizing another solar system to avoid being prosecuted. You see him struggle with relationships, with finding a home, finding love, with self doubt, and loneliness. Unfortunately none of these situations are explored well enough for me to call them 'Themes' or even 'Thematically Relevant' they tend to be introduced, and then not get brought up again. At least in the first book. The second and third books in the series hold on a little bit better, but still aren't very solid. It felt more... tacked on and strung along, which is better than the first book. But it doesn't necessarily feel like the main character actually feels these things past a few short moments, and then others impress those feeling on him through the rest of the book. I'll spoil a little bit of the first book. The First book actually almost has a theme that stays throughout the book: Finding your place, and if the series has a theme it is that. Unfortunately when the main character (Connor) gets halfway through the first book he has found his place. He is accepted. The next book touches on it again, but just doesn't hold on to it for very long. He feels alone because he can't get the funding he need to protect his new homeworld, but again he is validated, and the problem is glossed over by the 2/3rds mark. It just doesn't extend the theme to the end of the book. and that is a problem for me.In summary, the book is well written, but lacking a strong thematic center that will hold it together. The characterization is excellent, but it doesn't hold stable enough to bring the thematic ties as firm as I would like.

riveting
Just what I like! A story of grand adventure that takes you far from the expected to worlds unimagined. A nice long story to keep you occupied for days and days!

Great start with likable characters and desperate situation
Okay, I've read Sci-Fi for 40 years now and as we all know, we know what we like and dislike. There are characteristics in a book I look for that make me enjoy it. I wanted to share those on this first book (going to read book 2 next).First, if you like having a main character that is honerable in intent, even if a bit rough on the edges, as opposed to a main character that is greyer than ash and could be the antagonist, then you'll like this book. Else, you might to find another series, as I'm finding I like these characters.Second, if you like a good story with good characters in what starts a new adventure on a new planet they are colonizing, as opposed having woke themes or the desire to make social commentary, then this book is for you. Else, you might want to skip this book as I'm thankfully not seeing any identity politics, woke crap or political jabs.Third, if you enjoy finding a new space opera type series that starts out with what looks like an insurmountable problem that is being revealed over time, this book might be for you. I enjoy knowing that there is an expanding challenge here that means I'll be reading about these characters for a while. This series is 10 books long (not sure if it is finished yet) so if that is a turn-off, probably not worth starting.I like to think if a series is good, the characters likable, I'll keep reading. If either of those fail, then I can always cut bait and look elsewhere.Other series I really enjoy to give context (to compare notes):Doug Dandridge – Empires at War SeriesTaylor Anders - Destroyermen SeriesJack Campbell -The Lost Fleet & The Lost Fleet Beyond the FrontierJay Allan - Blood on the Stars series ++David Vandyke - Plague Wars + Stellar Conquest Series

so far very good
I’m writing this review while suffering a migraine so I won’t do it justice. Book 1, I wasn’t sure at the start whether I wanted to continue reading about a black ops group atm. But then the story moved to the Ark and a new planet and got interesting. The characters so far are well drawn and the mystery at the end of book one has got me moving on, migraine or not, to book two.

Enfim, achei razoável e não me vejo lendo a sequência.

Amazing military sci fi series
I had never read a Lozito book, but it came up in my feed. I am 5* all the way! I love his writing style. While he draws you in to the lives of the colonists, you become emotionally involved in their life decisions, harsh battles, inter galactic space flight, loss of family in war, and the birth of children the colonists need to protect. A superb writer, as no writer has hooked me as much as Lozito has in quite a long time. I am currently in Book 9, just writing my review in Book 1. The books are all of equal progeny to the first.

A worthy holiday read.
A well written story, with enough character development to make the protagonists interesting and the situation intriguing.I enjoyed it so much that I'm now on the 5th book in the series. The style reminds me slightly if Lee Child's "Jack Reacher" books. A lot happens, quickly, with minimal detail boggijg down the pace.
