Love it!
This is the original version of the book Windy Poplars. Some of her publishers had her change the name and some of the story because it was too dark? Of course I had to have this version to see what they were talking about and??? they were crazy??? This book is perfectly in keeping with the other Anne of Green Gables books. There's nothing too dark or morbid or graphic in here at all. Maybe they objected to her strolling through a graveyard but? that happens in like half the series! I think in every single place Anne lived the author pointed out the graveyard. Good grief, in Rainbow Valley there's children that play in one on a regular basis! And the name is totally not ripping off Wind in the Willows like they thought either. As if we would confuse an Anne of Green Gables novel with one about personified river wildlife. All in all this is a great addition to the series, and this version was not easy to find either!

Nice story
Now engaged to her beloved Gilbert, Anne Shirley has years to wait while he finishes medical school before they can start their life together. Anne takes a teaching job at a girls school and regales Gilbert with many letters about her eccentric housemates, the neighbors, her colleagues, and others she encounters. Even though Anne is grown up, she still manages to find her way into many adventures and to helping various people with their love or life problems.*Elements of this book were used in the movie Anne of Green Gables: The Sequel.

Transcription errors for days!
Anne of windy poplars much like every Anne book is lovely, humorous, and uplifting. The style in which it's written, the transitions between letter and third person is flawless and delightful. The only reason I cannot give this Edition 5 stars is due to be many many transcription errors. If I had not read this book several times from different publishers and already known the storyline and plot I would have had extreme difficulty comprehending and following the story. My recommendation to any possible future reader is, get a different version of this ebook. This one is just plain frustrating.

Windy Poplars? Well it's not Green Gables but Annes even better
As much as I've enjoyed Anne of Green Gables, Anne of Avonlee and Anne of the Island this is simply better. I didn't read these as a child ( being male) but have just began a variety of Lucy Maude Montgomery's books. I have found them delightfully enjoyable. While the characters have been rich, generally delightful and situations well crafted she has reach another level in Anne of Windy Poplars. They are still engaging and delightful but now are more emotionally drawn. Anne still Anne it's those around her that have grown in richness.

Anne's sweet disposition and usual cheerful nature assure her happiness wherever ...
Anne of Windy Poplars continues the story of Anne. She is engaged to be married, and has accepted the position of Principal of the school at Summerside while she waits for her fiancé to finish medical school so they can be married. Anne's sweet disposition and usual cheerful nature assure her happiness wherever she finds herself. Although she is a little homesick for Avonlea and Green Gables, she makes the most of her time in Summerside, making new friends and winning over potential enemies.

An independent Anne...
"Anne of Windy Poplars" is the excellent fourth book in the "Anne of Green Gables" series by Canadian author Lucy Maud Montgomery. It finds Anne Shirley, fresh from college, working as principal and teacher at the Summerside High School on Prince Edward Island. This book is the American version of Montgomery's original novel "Anne of Windy Willows."Anne takes a room at Windy Poplars, an old house with character in Summerside, owned by two eccentric widows and kept by their gloriously opinionated cook and maid, Rebecca Dew. Next door is a neglected and lonely child named Elizabeth Grayson. The town is run by the prideful Pringle clan, and Anne's fellow teacher at Summerside is the antagonistic Katherine Brooke. These people and others will engage Anne's time and energy over the course of the book, and it is a tribute to this Anne that she works some magic on all of them. This Anne of Windy Willows is worth knowing. She is a mature, attractive young woman with a degree and a good heart, increasingly conscious of her ability to affect the lives of others, and still vested with some of the fiestiness of her younger self. With increasing confidence and sometimes with unintended and hilarious results, Anne will set out to change Summerside for the better. For those who complain that the young Anne of Green Gables disappeared in her later married days, here is a fine novel about her days as an independent woman, and what she accomplished. "Anne of Windy Poplars" was added into the Anne series by an older Montgomery, and the narrative contains some foreshadowings of Anne's life to come. Highly recommended to fans of the "Anne of Green Gables" series.

Attractive new edition of Mature "Anne" Novel
An attractive new edition of the "Anne" books, published by Virago. Whether there is a need for yet another edition is, I suppose, down to demand, & these are good to handle, are as sturdy as a paperback can be, have good size type & in the case of "Windy Willows" & "....of the Island", arrestingly beautiful cover art. Others in the edition have surprisingly poor cover art, & I for one intend to invest in the rival new set from New York publisher Tundra, though they are more expensive & harder to find in Britain. As for the book itself, " Windy Willows" is not one of the best-loved of the "Anne" novels, but for my money it's one of the best. There is a maturity to the writing, dry humour, less purple passages, some wonderful characters & dialogue worthy of the author of "Cranford." Maud Montgomery's fans & critics alike tend to say that, like kittens & small children, Anne Shirley became rather dull almost as soon as she grew up. This is only partly true, but in the later books, once she's dwindled into a wife.... with children....she IS rather uninteresting, as are her priggish, "adults-in-miniature" offspring. For my money, this is the last wholly enjoyable "Anne" book until the wartime-set "Rilla of Ingleside", one of Maud's finest achievements. By the way, " Anne of Windy Willows" was written much later than the other "Anne" books, & the style is rather different. Parts of it take the form of Anne's letters to Gilbert. Some editions use the title "Anne of Windy Poplars", apparently to avoid confusion with "The Wind in the Willows." There are textual differences between the two versions, as the North American publisher considered some passages too morbid! The British version, "Willows", is the original text as Maud intended it.

Anne of Windy Willows, by L. M. Montgomery.
This is the fourth book about the girl who was Anne of Green Gables, and it is excellent. We see Anne - grown up now, and in a loving relationship with the boy she had once seen as an enemy, Gilbert Blythe! Much of the story is told by Anne's letters to Gilbert. Anne has been given the post of Principal of Sunnyside High School - but there are problems. One big problem is the Pringle family, who rule Sunnyside - and who make life very difficult for Anne. How Anne turns the tables on them by her own personality - and the help of an old document - is something to be enjoyed! There is the school play - almost wrecked by a Pringle - but saved because Anne had encouraged another girl - there are other interesting characters among the pupils who Anne helps - there is Elizabeth, not a pupil, just a lonely little girl who Anne befriends and invites to Green Gables - there is one of Sunnyside's other teachers, the prickly, almost unapproachable Katherine Brooke, who seems impossible to befriend - but Anne gets past Katherine's defences and ends up transforming her. And there is Windy Willows itself, the old house where Anne boards; kept by interesting, delightful characters who Anne loves! There is so much to this book - much more than I have described! Like all the books about Anne, this is well worth reading.

Wonderful, captivating tales of times gone by
Classic, poetically written, a beautiful memoir of bygone times, combined with engaging, observant conversation about ordinary life with a little drama thrown in for spicing. A perfect easy read, bringing back childhood memories of Anne of Green Gables as she moves into adult life.

A Teacher In Love
Anne of Windy Willows: Puffin Classics A very well thought out book in which we see life through Anne's letters to her lover but with out the sharing of her inner most loing thoughts about Gilbert. The way she writes about life and how visits back home lack something when Gilbert is not there is heart warming. Her genuiness to care for others especially those who cause problems like Katharine Brooke and the Pringles makes this yet another lovely addition to the Anne series. Another gripping tale.
This is very good, with each book you wonder how Montgomery can maintain the excellent standard of the previous book, and each time she succeeds. This book comes after Ann of the Island and deals with her first year as a teacher. At this time Gilbert is training to be a doctor and a lot of the interaction is by letter with Ann describing her various adventures.
