What is the proper way to install band

Try hooking a safety pin to the end of the string and put it through the hole.

How small can it breakdown to? Can it fit in a suitcase?

Yes it will fit in a suitcase. Each section is about 2 to 2 1/2 ft. I'm not where I can get to it to give exact measurements. But it's very portable. It's the long swimfins that take up all the space! Hope this helps.
