Is the main lense 3 or 5 diopter?

Hello Sento,The main lens is 5 Diopter magnification with 12 Diopter insert for spot inspections. Keep in mind that 5 diopter is a shade over 2X magnification, depending on distance. Thanks!

How far over does it reach? I paint flat on a table and wonder how big of a painting I can do.

I'm not sure if I am answering the question you are asking. With the lamp fully bent over, a vertical line from the center of the lens to the work area will strike that area about 10 or 11 inches from the nearest edge of the base. However, if I look down through the lens to some detail on the bench, that area will be well illuminated but will NOT be in sharp focus. The area in sharp focus will be much closer to the magnifying glass.
