Here's A Little Poem: A Very First Book of Poetry

My 2-year old loves this book and asks for several of the poems by name. It’s been a fun way to introduce poetry, as well as the idea of chapters, a table of contents, and an index. I think we are going to get several years of enjoyment out of this book!

This is the perfect book of poetry for little kids, bar none. My son got it as a 3rd birthday gift, and we have read from it almost every day since then. Here is why we love it so much:- Poems are short and mostly rhyming, so they are great for reading aloud multiple times- Poems deal with familiar subjects and have bright, fun illustrations that match each poem for comprehension support- There are lots of poems. We have found that one section (out of 4) is the right length for us for one sitting.- The poems are by many different poets, and are a mix of older and more recent poems, without using archaic language

For early readers and as an introduction to poetry, this book is your best choice! My daughter LOVED it. Since she first read it as a 4 year-old, finding how easy it is to read and even memorize some of them, she fell in love with poetry. Poems are funny and kids can relate to the experiences they talk about. Many have repetition or word games that encourage them to be more aware of their speech and the way the pronounce words. They learn that anything can be be turned into a poem and start to do it on their own. The silly-factor of the illustrations goes along with the humor of the poems in a way that makes the book ever more appealing to young children.

Pictures are great. The poems are awesome and majority of the poems rhyme.

Very large book, hardback, over 100 pages on good quality, heavy paper— this book is surprisingly, uncomfortably HEAVY for a tired mom or a tiny hand. Best to lay it flat on the floor. Illustrations are pleasant, the poetry uneven, but nice to have an anthology with varied writers.

Absolutely lovely hardcover book of poetry. A delightful collection for children of any age. A wonderful gift, a must for any family bookshelf, and a great resource for an early childhood or elementary classroom. Arrived carefully packaged. Amazing value for the money.

The best poetry anthology for a three year old out there. I have a bunch of poetry collections but this is my favorite to read. All the poems are just the right length for a toddler and about stuff that would interest them. Lovely language. I'm proud my three year old goes around saying them to himself. He says the words make his body happy through his ears. Yay for poetry!

One of the most beautiful books I have ever come across. I used it a lot during my years as an early years teacher and I now read it every night to my 2 year old (who insists we read this and not any other book). A must-have for any child's library.
