Hello Ocean

My daughter, nephews, and I love the beach
I think this is a lovely, well written book. My daughter is now in love with this book. Being military, we were moved from the Gulf Coast of Florida (we were only 3 miles away from beautiful beaches) to the land locked state of Colorado (now don't get all upset, the mountains are beautiful, too). She asks daily to go to the beach. We read this book over and over again. She recalls all the wonderful times she had at the beach. I think it is helping her transition a bit. She even has most of the book memorized (she is under 3), we have read it so much. I would recommend this book to those people, who love the ocean and want to take a little of that beach experience home with them. As for the accusation that this book is somehow gender biased, because the main character happens to be a girl! Ha, ha, ha!!! The book has nothing to do with gender and everything to do with the beach. If my daughter couldn't relate to boys in books, then there would be a very short list of books she could enjoy. Most books have males as main characters, and we expect everyone to relate to them, because it isn't supposed to be about gender. I think this claim is ridiculous and should be ignored! In fact, I am purchasing us the hard cover version right now, and I intend to send the paperback to my nephews, because they love they beach as much as my daughter! Gender bias! Ha ha ha!

Perfect book!
This book is full of amazing poetry and art. Being someone who loves the beach, this book takes me back and describes everything you feel at the beach- in poem form. I love this book! I even recommended it to a teammate of mine and she bought it too!

beautiful illustrations
This is a really pretty and visual book about our 5 sense and the ocean. I grew up near Cape Cod and this book is so much like my memories. I include this with baby gifts often, living in North Texas the ocean is not in our back yard.

Gorgeous illustrations, moving beach prose
I adore the beach, and this book is so beautifully written it actually brought tears to my eyes. My son’s first grade class listened to it during distance learning via YouTube, and as soon as I heard it I knew I had to buy a copy. The illustrations are gorgeous too!

Beautiful illustration
I bought this for my 2-year old boy who had all of the sudden developed a deep fear of the ocean and pools, and we had a trip planned to San Diego that we didn't want to cancel. I thought this might help ease his fears. He absolutely loves looking at the pictures. It's quite soothing and depicts the sounds, smells, etc. very well. Some of the text is a little advanced for him, but he enjoys the rhyming. It's also very good for a relaxing bedtime story - as it ends with the sun setting and saying goodnight to the ocean and that we'll be back again. (P.S. He did great in San Diego and swam everyday. I do think this book helped a bit.)

Great for writing to the senses lesson
I use this to write to the senses and have the kids make a chart of the senses and fill out words or phrases that are written for that sense. It’s a good exercise for both listening skills and seeing who understands writing.

Slanted for girls
This books features nice text and beautiful illustrations...if only there was more than 1 or 2 pictures of a little boy on the beach. The author and/or illustrator could easily have included a boy as one of the girl's friends (or brother) instead of focusing only on girls. My 4-yr-old boy picked this out from a Scholastic flyer a few weeks after our beach vacation. I'm hoping he likes it, but feel unsure if he'll really relate to it or not, at least as this age. Also, were the bikinis really necessary on such young-looking girls? Call me old-fashioned, but sheesh...

one of the most beautiful illustrated books we own
one of the most beautiful illustrated books we own. It reminds me of my own childhood, many long summer holidays spent at the beach. Very Montessori friendly, for those who follow this pedagogy.
