GPX Portable CD Boombox with AM/FM Radio, Stereo Speakers & Headphone Jack

I purchased this GPX CD player for my 81 year old mother so she could listen to the radio, and more importantly, to CD's. It works great! I ordered and received two other CD players prior to this one (a Memorex and Craig). The CD portions did not work. GPX was my first choice, however, I ordered the other ones because of the shipping time. The GPX was on back order. In retrospect, I wish that I had waited patiently and ordered it first. I highly recommend this product!

This review is for the 'GPX, Inc. Portable Top-Loading CD Boombox with AM/FM Radio and 3.5mm Line In for MP3 Device - Red'. The compact size is great for traveling (if so choose). There were a few key features that the boobox lacked: 1) You cannot program radio stations. That would have been helpful for those who listen to various stations. There is a Program feature - however, it only works for the CDs (which I found quite odd). I included image of those instructions. 2) The radio tuning knob (on the top right of the radio) is very sensitive. You have to turn the knob extremely slow as it moves from station to station quite rapidly. Overall, the boombox is decent - for the price paid (less than $30).

It's true that the digital age is upon us, and CDs are not exactly as popular as they once were. However, some of us still have huge CD libraries. I have one of these CD players which is 3 years old and still running. So when another CD player I had broke, I ordered one of these without hesitation. PROS (1) Affordable. (2) Surprisingly attractive design. (3) Plays CDs very well. (Including burned from laptop CDs) (4) Surprisingly powerful for such a tiny machine. Don't ask ne how it fills such a large room. But it DOES! (5) Because it's small, it's easy to find a spot for. (6) Unlike some brands, there is plenty of room to get the cd in and out without having to play surgeon. CONS (1) Kind of a minor issue, but worth mentioning. When you open the bottom (to get the power cord out), you may find it's not so easy to snap the bottom back on. This obviously doesn't stop you from using the radio or CD player. But it is a strange con. FINAL ANALYSIS What's not to like? It's an affordable price; it has an attractive design; it's easy to find a place for; and it's surprisingly powerful. I can recommend this without reservation. BUY AND ENJOY!

Who are these people who gave this so-called boombox more than 1 star? That really disturbs me, because this product is really bad. I can't find anything good to say about it. First of all, the speakers are so lousy, it's like the guy in the next dorm room over is playing his AM radio too loud, and why does he have such a cruddy radio anyway? The sound is just staticy and awful. Secondly, you can't use any kind of headphones, wired or wireless. So you are stuck with that tin-can sound from the speakers. Even if you are so retro that AM radio is your thing, there's no antenna to pick up any stations more than a few miles away. I have little doubt that they took those dollar store speakers, you know the super cheap stand-alones you plug into your phone, stuck one on each side of this thing and called it done. You might think that you could plug your phone into it and it will at least be better than your phone's dinky speakers. Well, it may be a bit louder, but it definitely ain't better. I even take offense at the name. There is absolutely no boom in this box.

Runs okay but it's not well made. The disk seat is a wobbly platen without any support or enclosure so it's hard to get the disk on right. The lid doesn't open all the way so it can only be inserted at a certain angle. We got this for an elderly person with vision issues and all of these are deal breakers. Also there are some weird control choices that make hitting the wrong button a challenge for our parent so eh. Fine for people without challenges but needs to be fussed with.

Very Impressed with Quality of Boombox and Sound Quality! Easy to use and set up for first use. Easy to use. As mentioned by others, the Volume and Radio tuning knobs are very sensitive but it is easy to get used to. I am also very impressed with the sound quality of this unit. Much better than I expected. For the money, this boombox Rocks!

Love this CD Player! It is easy to use and has nice sound. It plays home recorded CD's as well as store-bought. The markings on the buttons were a little hard for me to see so I put small labels on them until I learn where everything is. I use it in my sewing room.

I came across many negative reviews regarding the power and voltage. This is simply because people were being ignorant of the fact that this product comes from US and needs a step down converter to get it going in India. The seller contacted me twice on two different days to make sure that I was aware of it. Please please please don’t plug in this music system without a step down converter. It has 120V and hence you would need something which can withstand 150V and above capacity for a smoother performance. Mine works perfectly without any sort of disruption. Thank you for your fast delivery and at most care in letting me know and reminding me to buy a step down converter. Will be happy to shop with you again.

Unable to shut the product battery storage space because plug wire did not have a separate space for storage. Requested return and it was collected from home on May 7. I have not received refund till date. Unacceptable wait time.
