Good item
Here in south Texas, you'd better have a light for walking around at night and this works well. Batteries seem to last a long time, and I love the variable settings.

Five years on and it's still the best item in my tool kit
Purchased back in '08, and this lamp has lit more projects than I can recall. Nice fit - esp. with the band that goes from front to back and keeps the light from slipping. Lower levels of light are sort of useless, but the "high beam" does the trick every time. Throws a light that is a good combination of focused and diffuse so your work area has sufficient light. Overall there are a bunch of tools I'd toss before I threw this light away.

Ninety-five percent of what I do can be done on the two lowest settings
I do tenant repairs for a property management company. I often find myself under a house or in an attic. I fix or install dishwashers, garbage disposals, clogged drains, electrical problems and much more. I use a headlamp at least five times a week. I bought my last one at a home improvement store, it was ok, but the switch was always iffy and it had useless (for me) red and green lights. This light only cost about $5 more and is far superior. Ninety-five percent of what I do can be done on the two lowest settings which means the batteries will last for months, considering that I only use the light about three hours a week. I like the location of the switch and the little click it makes when you press it. The light swivels a full 90 degrees and unlike my previous light, it moves smoothly and stays where you put it. The elastic head strap is wide, easy to adjust and quite comfortable. It is light enough that I am sure I will sometimes forget that I have it on my head. On the back of the light there is a bit of foam where the light rests on my forehead, nice touch. I won't use the highest setting much, but I am glad that it is there if I need it. Mine did not come with the rubber band for fitting to a helmet.

Annoying 'low battery indicator'
Update: In my original review I complained about the 'low battery indicator' which is a red LED that starts flashing when the battery gets low. The problem is that whenever the red LED flashes (about once per second) the output of the light dims... So it makes the light have a pulsing strobe effect which is very distracting and annoying. The problem for me was that the alkaline batteries that came with the light lasted a LONG time after the strobing started. Really annoying to use the headlight with it doing that... However, once those batteries ran out and I started using Eneloop rechargeables, it's not much of a problem. The indicator only starts when the batteries are truly nearing the end of useful charge (light has become quite dim) so it's not as bad. However if I used alkaline batteries I'd still give this light my original rating of 3 stars (or less)...... Also, a warning about loading the batteries. The 3 batteries snap into a round cartridge which you insert into the body of the light, like many small flashlights. However, unlike any other light I've used, the cartridge is keyed with a shallow slot along its length that mates with a subtle ridge in the body of the light so that you can only insert it in at a certain rotational angle. It will start to go in at some other angles, but it will start to be difficult as it goes in and can get seriously jammed if you try to force it, then you have to pry it out to remove it. I did this indoors with light available the first time I tried to change the batteries so it was only annoying... Easy way to do it successfully is to hold the light with the hole for the batteries facing up, and lightly set the cartridge on top of the hole. Without pushing down on the cartridge (just hold it lightly), rotate it around slowly until it finds the proper angle and falls in on its own. Also the battery cap doesn't have much to grip and can be a real pain to try to unscrew if you put it on too tight because it's so slippery. Anyway, some things could be improved but I'm pretty happy with the light now that I'm using rechargeable batteries. --------- original review: So at first I loved this headlamp... I got it mainly for working on cars and other things where I needed my hands free, but found myself using it much more often for all sorts of things. Seems decently made (nothing has broken), though it is plastic. 3 lighting modes provide options, and even the lowest is pretty bright. I liked it so much that I ordered another. But then I reached the point that the 'low battery indicator' started blinking. This red flashing LED is not a bad idea, but the problem is that the light output from the headlamp dims every time the red LED flashes, making a 'pulsing' effect. This happens about once a second. I've used the light for hours since the 'low battery' warning started flashing, and I intend to fully use up the batteries. So I'm left with this annoying flickering/strobing effect. Imagine trying to read or do something up close with the light flickering every second. It gets annoying. I guess it's there to make you waste batteries (or charge on rechargeables). I doubt there's a way to get around this 'indicator' but I'm looking. This headlamp would have been great (given the fairly low price) without the battery indicator 'feature,' but as it is I'm not sure I'd recommend it.

Great Deal for a Quality Headlamp
Great headlamp! I have several different kinds for camping and hiking, but I bought this especially for the occasions where I have to work at night wearing a hard hat. The included rubber strap stays put on the hat without slipping, where fabric straps slide up toward the top and come off; this one doesn't move. The light itself is very useful, with the LEDs providing a good range of low, medium, and bright, while the C4 LED projects a mega bright penetrating beam farther than most flashlights.

These lights are great and work well for outdoor night working. Tough and don't drain the battery.... seems to last a very long time. The features on these newer versions with bigger button and low battery warning are a great upgrade compared to the older versions.

At calving time during the night I find the light very handy, as you are able to use both hands when working with the livestock. Great light with the three different beams of light.

Great worklight! Low level lighting is bright enough for most jobs, great battery life! The distance on the brightest setting is amazing! Tough light too, puts up with jobsite abuse.
