Are these easy to clean?

Yes. I wipe them down with a wet cloth or throw them in the washer depending in how dirty they are.

How waterproof? If very wet acrylic or tempura paint (black tempura stains) gets on smock, will it soak through?

I use them as a way to protect my toddler's clothing when eating. Works great for solid foods, with liquids some of it still gets through.
