Can some wiring kits be faulty?

I worked at a parts store that sold Curt products and I never found a faulty kit. Make sure that all your connections are clean and well connected. Also, make sure that your existing wiring is not the problem. Also, make sure you route wires so that they are not pinched or stretched.

Why wouldnt this work for the 06 outback impreza?

Chances are it will. My care is a 2006 Impreza Outback. I found the connector on the passenger side, in the trunk, just behind the rear tail light. If you can find a rectangle white 6 prong (2x3) connector then you've probably got it.

Which one do i use for 08 outback xt? (i think amazon was wrong)

I think the 2005-2009 Outback XT's are all the same. The 6 pin white plug is on the left rear under the flooring. It is easy to remove the left floorboard. I just three days ago installed the Curt 55370 on my 2006 Outback XT. Its a 'Plug & Play' with no cutting.
