The colors are vivid when colored straight on the paper. They get somewhat less vivid when water is applied and the color is made into a wash. Is you want the color even less intense, color on a watercolor palette and mix with water. If you need to paint a tiny spot too tiny for the pen tips, then touch the brush to the tip and apply to paper.
