“This book is life-changing for those trying to understand their own bodies, or those of loved ones, and it’s truly transformative in the hands of medical professionals, especially young doctors.”— Foreword Reviews Thomas Cowan was a 20-year-old Duke grad—bright, skeptical, and already disillusioned with industrial capitalism—when he joined the Peace Corps in the mid-1970s for a two-year tour in Swaziland. There, he encountered the work of Rudolf Steiner and Weston A. Price—two men whose ideas would fascinate and challenge him for decades to come. Both drawn to the art of healing and repelled by the way medicine was—and continues to be—practiced in the United States, Cowan returned from Swaziland, went to medical school, and established a practice in New Hampshire and, later, San Francisco. For years, as he raised his three children, suffered the setback of divorce, and struggled with a heart condition, he remained intrigued by the work of Price and Steiner and, in particular, with Steiner’s provocative claim that the heart is not a pump. Determined to practice medicine in a way that promoted healing rather than compounded ailments, Cowan dedicated himself to understanding whether Steiner’s claim could possibly be true. And if Steiner was correct, what, then, is the heart? What is its true role in the human body? In this deeply personal, rigorous, and riveting account, Dr. Cowan offers up a daring claim: Not only was Steiner correct that the heart is not a pump, but our understanding of heart disease—with its origins in the blood vessels—is completely wrong. And this gross misunderstanding, with its attendant medications and risky surgeries, is the reason heart disease remains the most common cause of death worldwide. In Human Heart, Cosmic Heart , Dr. Thomas Cowan presents a new way of understanding the body’s most central organ. He offers a new look at what it means to be human and how we can best care for ourselves—and one another. “[This book] deserves to be in everyone’s library. . . . It’s loaded with great information, and it can save your life or the life of someone you love.”—Dr. Joseph Mercola Review: Must read! - I absolutely loved Human Heart, Cosmic Heart. I read it in two days and truly could not put it down. I’ve been in the health and wellness space for a long time, and this book hit home for me on a deep level. After recovering from a nerve injury, I found myself diving much deeper into nervous system health, recovery, and the bigger picture of how the body actually heals. As a veteran, firefighter, coach, and someone who works closely with others trying to improve their health, I’m always searching for deeper understanding. My mom has arrhythmia, I have close friends with heart problems, and I’ve spent a lot of time asking the same kinds of questions the author explores in this book. What I appreciated most is that this book challenges the narrow, mechanical view of the heart. It opens your mind to the idea that the heart is far more than just a pump, and that true healing cannot come from only looking at one isolated part. There are so many factors at play, such as our nervous system, stress, environment, connection to nature, energy, and the way the whole body works together. This book really helped reinforce something I’ve felt for a long time: we need to treat the whole person. We need to reconnect with nature, think more broadly, and be willing to look at health from different perspectives. Human Heart, Cosmic Heart is thought-provoking, fascinating, and deeply inspiring. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to better understand the heart, the body, and the deeper forces that influence health and healing. Review: Outstanding thinker - Tom is an outstanding thinker and his books exhibit a very rare synthesis of knowledge, wisdom, and breadth of experience. This heart book is outstanding but separately, and worth mentioning, his take on cancer is good as well and his take on virology is perhaps the most important work he has put out in my opinion. One of the few people whose thinking takes a subject to its logical conclusion and refuses to form an opinion until that point is actually reached. That is how one gets closest to the truth and this closeness is why Tom's work resonates with so many.

Very Good Book on How to Improve Heart Health!!!
This newly released book is an exceptionally great read on "how the heart works and what to do about improving it." I think this is an especially good book for baby boomers! I have used the recommendations (diet and herbs) to help improve my blood test results (better Chol, stopped BP meds., over all blood work is much better). Dr. Cowan's logic and recommendations are a bit different than what the American Heart Association would recommend and for me that is the point. I am having dramatically more success following his thoughtful recommendations. My take is that Dr. Cowan, is an extremely smart and broadly educated MD so he can draw on information (scientific, personal, and experiential) from several areas in the broad topic of heart health. His logic and research track with other forward thinking pioneers in the heart health field, but his book is a very easy read! He can discern and explain what works, what doesn't work, and why from both a medical and a chemical/biological perspective. I gave him 5 starts because the book and information is that good, but he does briefly rant against the industrial age which I am quite happy to be a part of! If you do a search on his name you can also find papers and podcasts while the information is much more fully developed in his book.

Overwhelmed
There are useful concepts ,observations, and ideas, but it is hard to get to them while submerged in words. It feels like something that should be part of a two or three book series instead of one book. There is a personal perspective of a self driven childhood and adolescence. A driven adult life, and a desire to include every useful though and feeling he can. Worth reading and considering, but a great deal of material for one book.

groundbreaking
Highly recommendable if you are interested in new ways to view the heart and what causes heart disease. Contains many eye openers and puts question marks with current treatment options without dismissing their value. Offers a bridge between treating and understanding the heart and heart disease in an allopathic way and treating the human who is suffering from heart disease, as well as treating the terrain they operate in. Never moralistic, or dismissing medical progress. I think a must read for those suffering from heart problems, those who endeavour to treat them and those who simply have an interest in the human heart.

The Heart is not a Pump but a Cosmic exit womb to the Fifth-dimension
This is far more than a medical book. It covers the geoetric shape of the heart as a Chestahedron as researched by Frank Chester. It also shows that the Heart is not the pump for the blood system. The capillaries are the pump using the Dr Gerald Pollack's research into the Fourth Phase of water and the positive and negative charge at the EZ zone. The heart is also the exit womb for us to return to the Fifth-dimension just like our entry womb as we come into matter. Well researched. Many thanks. With love and divine light. Robert Vicary

Fascinating and thought provoking book.
Be aware that this book is extremely short and concise, but very thoughtfully written. As usual with Dr. Cowan, you have to play along with his metaphors, thought experiments, and come in with an open mind. I would not go around telling people "it's scientifically proven the heart is not a pump!" but it certainly gives an interesting perspective and casts doubt on our understanding of anatomy and medical science. Really warm messaging to conclude and I thoroughly enjoyed this book.
