My previous 15 year old STAG medicine ball had reached end of life and though it had a rougher textured surface that was easier to grip, it started dropping little bits of rubber all over me and my gym floor, so I had to buy a new ball. This USI ball is perfect and has a good grip without a rough surface and looks like it will last at least another fifteen years, if not more, without the rubber disintegrating.
