CalFlor FloorFix Mix2Match Hardwood & Laminate Repair Kit – 20 Color Formulas + Grain & Gloss Tools

We had just had laminate wood flooring put into a flex room the day before we moved into our new home, and after the movers moved our furniture into that room, we noticed a foot long scratch in the middle of the floor. Although this product doesn’t make the floors like new, it did such a good job of repairing that if a person didn’t know the scratch was there, they probably wouldn’t notice.

The color chart seemed to be of the mixed color, not the color when dry. It dries somewhat darker than the chart, but I was able to adjust the color easily. We had a large area of flooring with some bad gouges as the result of a folding chair that had lost its rubber tip. The product filled in the gouges and color match was satisfactory such that repair is invisible from several feet away. Cons - the product is water soluble and very hard to remove the excess material without pulling it out of the gouge. The solution was to let it dry for a couple of days and then slice it flush with a new razor blade, then remove the hazy excess material with a damp cloth - careful not to go over the actual repair area. The lacquer overcoat is a little different sheen as the flooring but that is to be expected; the floor pieces themselves have many different levels of shininess. Time will tell if the lacquer overcoat will stand up to washing. So far pleased with the product performance and price. Only gave 3 stars for longevity/durability as we just applied the repair. As I said, time will tell.

It's not an exact science and takes a little tweaking. Almost treating it like an art project is what really makes it blend the best. I had a place in our laminate floor that recently had a finger nail size piece chip away. I was able to mix a color putty that was fairly close then use the dye itself to sort of paint darker lines on it to match the darker tones in the patter of our floor. Using a solid color that closely matches the tone is where you start then painting something like a darker tone on top of it to draw your eye away from and break up the repair area seems to be the key.

If you've gotten this far to read my review this will provide really useful feedback for you. The base cream that comes with this kit is near useless for anything deeper than a scratch. The stuff air dries, it takes quite a while to dry and FOREVER to build it up in layers; even longer if you try to fill anything deeper than 1/8 inch at once. It DOES NOT accept stains like it says it does. BUT if you don't care about staining you can invest in a can of WHITE BONDO all purpose putty (The same material body shops use for minor car body repairs except it's white rather than pink, available on Amazon and at the big home centers). This kit is REALLY USEFUL for coloring Bondo, which sets hard as wood and can be sanded in 15 minutes. The coloring agents do not affect the setting of the Bondo at all. It's possible to play around with the coloring tone before adding the activator to Bondo so you can mix a quantity of the right color; it will sit indefinitely (provided you keep it in a sealed tight container) until you need to use it.

Easy to use. Repair looks no different than the original floor

This works great, but just a heads up, the color is extremely different between the paint and the lacquered end result. Spent a lot of time trying to match the floor color and it was always off. Luckily it erases very easily with water. Once you lacquer with the included transparent solution, it will set it and you cannot wash it away and the color transforms somehow and it look just like the floor. Pretty frustrated that it did not mention this anywhere on the packaging.

Not as easy to use as suggested. I used this on a stick on tile. In the long run just easier to replace the tile. Unfortunately, the Armstrong tile that i used for many years has dropped the ball and no longer is the same quality of long ago.

used this to repair some damage to my wooden floorboards. If it is your first time trying, I would suggest watching a few videos online first to familiarise yourself with the use of this product. It was my first time using it, but after watching some tutorials online & testing out on some wood I had in the shed, the final work came out perfect. You can't even notice where I carried out the repairs.

I bought this for furniture repair and it does what is says; I would buy it again. If you're thinking of buying it, here are some things to consider: It's easy to use, not messy and cleans up easily. You can make pretty much any colour you want, but you have to learn how to do it by trial and error - the colours on the mixing chart provided often bear little relation to what you actually end up with. The putty remains flexible and fairly soft when set. This has advantages but I don't think it would hold up well in a place that gets a lot of wear. It also shrinks a bit as it dries and deep holes need to be topped up. One minor gripe is that whilst the mixing spatula is hard wearing plastic, the mixing board with its calibration lines is only cardboard, and the lines disappear after a few cleans. I suspect that the board itself isn't going to last long, but provided you've remembered the length of a standard squirt of putty from the tube you can mix it on any inert surface.

The product is fine, but impossible to colour match. The tints darken when dry, and applying the protective lacquer also causes the colours to darken. basically impossible for you repair to match.
