This simple and incredibly powerful book expands the perspective of truly following God. It is such a simple and applicable read and very inspiring. It shows that God’s design and love for our lives is much more than we can begin to understand, however he wants to be with us and lead us every second.

you don't have to be a christian or religious to get inspiration from Brother Lawrence's experience. A simple Brother that placed his devotion on what was most important to him. And never faltered for long. Life lessons can be taken from this book without having to swear allegiance to anything or anyone. That is up to the reader. Brother Lawrence picked God as he understood God. The reading doesn't recruit. That's left up to the reader.

A down-to earth guide to developing a deeper relationship with God. Brother Lawrence shares wisdom gained from experience -- practical steps to a closer walk with God. He shares his struggles... : difficulties with prayer : feeling unworthy of Christ's love and acceptance : regret for years of lost opportunity And what he learned... : learning to invite God into everyday activities : cultivating peace and assurance regardless of circumstances : experiencing God's presence in every moment of life : learning to everything for love of God : viewing his own mistakes through God's grace and mercy : trusting God's perfect goodness to sustain him This is NOT a high theological treatise written for theological students. Brother Lawrence shares his "from the trenches" view of life in service to Christ. He sought God's will in *everything* he did, from cooking dinner to mending a shoe. Every activity became an opportunity to show love for God. He tried to do nothing apart from God's will, even to picking up a blade of grass. Even though he admits to failing over and over, he simply repented and returned to God as soon a possible. Brother Lawrence sought wisdom through a direct relationship with God, rather than an academic dissection of faith. Very encouraging for a layman. I greatly enjoyed it.

Brother Lawrence would be pleasantly amazed to learn of the broad circulation and great impact his simple, heartfelt correspondence has had in recent times. His life and walk with God demonstrates that whatever we do with and for Him has positive effects beyond our horizons. This wonderful little book is worth reading periodically until its simple truths unclutter our modern minds. If we merely commune with God moment by moment, surrendering and pleasing Him in all we do and say, we will have accomplished a large portion of our life purpuse. Let Brother Lawrence help you understand how to be a friend of God.

Here is a report -- on conversations with a 17th century monk, Brother Lawrence, and how he communed with God. It reveals how he dealt with the concept of "hell" and was still able to do everything -- every minute detail of his life for love of God. There are 16 letters that Brother Lawrence himself wrote and three "conversation reports." I found it kind of inspiring!

A great book. While it would be difficult to live the way this gentleman did back in the 1600's you can apply one practice he talks about throughout the book. The practice is focus on God and try to shut out all the background noise that distracts you from doing that. That's hard in today's world but it can be done. Everyone can carve out some time during the day to pray. It can be done several times a day if you make the time. It doesn't have to be a long prayer. Just praying in the morning and at night is not enough. If you want to stay in Christ and have a relationship with him spend more time thinking about him and praying. That is my take away from this book.

Reading about Brother Lawrence as well as some of his own writings will remind you that God is a relational God, and that he desires to have a relationship with each individual. Brother Lawrence writes about his discovery that God loves each person specifically. He describes how he himself grew in that relationship and he encourages his readers to pursue knowing and walking with God.

Wonderful book about a very holy man. As I grow older I find that the path to sainthood is really very simple. That is why Jesus said "Let the little children come to me." You might have 1,000 of the most brilliant theologians in the world debating an issue. Half will say one thing, while the rest saying another. I have have determined it is best to utilize the KISS concept. The simpler you keep it, the more direct the route to your salvation. In other words, stop studying and start practicing your dialogue with God. Talk to him as a friend, just the way that Brother Lawrence did.

Wooow! So simple yet soooo effective, my relationship with God is so much better with so much ease!? Go figure, but simply settling oneself and focusing on Him really does change things profoundly!!

This book is a seminal work for the heart of any man/woman seeking true meaning, purpose and love in their life
