Modern Color―An Illustrated Guide to Dyeing Fabric for Modern Quilts

More pages dedicated to quilting basics than dyeing
The preview looked good because all the dye information is at the front of the book. Projects start on page 28 and include cutting instructions, piecing information and patterns. Six more pages toward the back are quilt basics like making the quilt sandwich, quilting and binding. All of that is useless information for me. I doubt too many people get into dyeing for quilting before they know anything about quilting. It could have been a smaller book or provided just the dye recipes without the sewing instructions. Borrow it from the library because it's not likely a book you'll use as a resource time and again.

I love that she uses such a small amount of dye ...
This book gives very clear directions about dyeing fabric. I love that she uses such a small amount of dye per piece. I've found that I can use much less dye than other books or instructors recommend with great results, if not better. The only thing that is missing is a list of colors to mix to make other colors. There are a few examples in the projects, but not a very good list of suggestions.

Excellent
There are many dye books on the market and I have my fair share, I found this one very easy to understand with lots of information and simply put. I have done a lot of dyeing and some books assume some knowledge. Not this one, having said that it isn't so basic that experienced users will not find it useful. I also like the fact that it does go into using the dyed fabric for quilts as many quilters are starting to but have little idea about how and quantity.Very well laid out book and informative for the fibre artist.

OK but not great
This is an "OK" book for color. It's more about the designs. After adding other dyeing books to my library, this one ended up at the bottom of the pile for actual dyeing information.

Three Stars
I felt the majority of what I read has been covered in other publications previously.

Super
I have been dyeing fabric for a while and this is one of the best references I have seen. Good illustrations, simple tools, patterns to try. Makes dyeing very doable.

Interesting read
Great book with great references :) Another great reference book is the dharma trading catalogue. My fibers professor recommends

Modern color dyeing
Great discussion, directions and photographs. The author clearly demonstrates the theory and process of dyeing fabric and reviewing supplies needed to create different outcomes.
