Salter Digital Baby and Toddler Scale - Electronic Infant Scale with Removable Tray, 44 lb Capacity, Hold Function and Zero Tare Feature for Accurate Weight Tracking

I've only had this scale for a couple of days now, but I love it so far. We use it for monitoring the weight of our baby boy. I tested this against one of those really expensive scales at the doctor and it gave basically the same weight. The one at the doctor office has a resolution of 0.1lbs, while this one's is 0.5lbs. We first weighed our kid at home using this scale, and it sort of went back-and-forth between 9lbs 7.5oz and 9lbs 8.0oz. We then went to the doctor and weighed him and the expensive scale showed 9lbs 7.7oz. You can't get much closer than that. Some other reviews of this scale complain that it's hard to read because the weight shown fluctuates a lot. For me, I thought it was just fine. The baby wasn't doing jumping jacks, but he wasn't sitting still either. And the weight shown does move around a little bit as the little guy wiggles, but I didn't find it difficult at all to read the weight. I could imagine that if a baby is pitching a fit and flailing, it might be a little tricky to get an accurate reading, though. It's nice that the readout for pounds is pounds and ounces (e.g. 9lbs 7.5oz), whereas some other scales just show decimal pounds (i.e. 9.47lbs). Obviously it also has an option to output kilograms, for you people from those backward countries :) The battery compartment was a little shallow for the 9V battery that I had. Had to push a little hard to get the cover back on, and it bulges a little bit, but I don't think it's a big deal. I imagine there's some variation in 9V battery size, or maybe I put it in wrong. It doesn't seem like a problem, though.

We bought this back in 2008 to help track our breastfed and slow-to-gain weight daughter's growth. We loved being able to compare her measurements at home rather than guessing and estimating and waiting till her next appointment. As she grew, she loved standing on it and asking how much she weighed, then dancing around shouting "I'm heavy as a boulder!". She's finally outgrown it at the 44 lb. maximum now at age 6, but this sturdy scale lives on. It's absolutely fantastic for weighing packages for things we've sold on eBay and elsewhere -- no waiting in line at the Post Office to pay for shipping labels, we can just weigh the packages and print 'em up at home in confidence. Pros: - It turns on and zeroes itself quickly - I like that you can turn it off rather than using up extra battery time while it times out - Our daughter thought it looked like Mickey Mouse which made it fun to stand on (some additional decoration with dry-erase markers encouraged that, too) - a fabulous second life as a postal scale! - it's taken a lot of jumping on, banging, being dropped, and other misadventures and still does an accurate job - exact enough (to the 1/2 oz.) for almost everything we've ever used it for, from child to packages :) Cons: - it's a little heavy Guess that's it. A sturdy, reliable, great little scale and quite reasonably priced. Update 2021: 8 years later, this scale is still a champ. We use it to weigh packages mostly, and it's quick, accurate, perfect!

Before my baby was born I didn't think I would need a scale. I breastfeed so I do not know how much milk my baby is getting and I found myself constantly worrying whether or not he was getting enough milk since the baby check ups are weeks apart. After doing a lot of research I came to the decision between this scale and Health o Meter Grow With Me Scale. The only difference I could find other than the price is that the Health o Meter weighed up to 60lbs and this scale only goes up to 44lbs. I figure that by the time my baby is 44lbs he can use a regular scale and I can save 20 sum bucks. Pros: - Eases your mind and lets you know your baby is gaining weight properly between well baby check ups - Accurate - Plastic tray, not metal. So it isn't too cold for your naked baby - Very easy to zero the scale with a diaper if you do not want to weigh your baby naked - Measures in .5 increments - Simple to convert over to toddler scale that looks like a teddy bear head - Easy to read large digital display - 5 year warranty Cons: - None I am so glad that I purchased this product. My only regret is not purchasing it sooner and saving me a couple weeks of worrying if my baby was getting enough milk and growing well.

Probably not a necessity, but I'm really glad I purchased it. My daughter doesn't follow a typical feeding schedule for her age, and she recently changed her schedule even more, so I wanted to double check that she was still getting a reasonable amount of milk per day and gaining weight well. She happened to be at the doctor's the same day the scale arrived, and I was happy to see that this scale gave the exact weight the doctor's scale did. I've been using it before and after feeds and it's giving me a good idea of how much she eats (which varies greatly throughout the day), which will help when I return to work. It's worth nothing, though, that reading the weight is sometimes very hard with a squirmy baby. Unfortunately the Hold feature isn't helpful. In theory you press it and then it'll hold the weight so you can read it easily. We found that it doesn't actually record the weight until after you finish depressing the button, which makes timing the reading when the baby is still for a nanosecond very hard. We got values that were +/- 1 lb! Same issue with Tare/Zero. We've resorted to just staring at the readout and visually determining what value we see most often or when she's still for a moment. I think if the Hold actually recorded the second you pressed it rather than waiting, it would work much better. (The reason it waits is because the pressure of your finger on the button actually changes the scale readout. I put my phone on the scale, it easily settled to 7 oz (repeated every time), but then I'd start pressing the Hold button and the readout would climb higher as I pressed more and more firmly, getting to over 1 lb before the button clicked. Since it waits a bit after you press the button to record, as long as you quickly remove your finger you get the right reading, but if you were to push and linger, the force of your finger would count. They should place the buttons off of the sensing surface so that it can read instantly and isn't impacted by your finger.)

With breastfeeding you never know how much food your baby is getting, and with twins the problem is compounded by needing to schedule feedings, not remembering who pooped when etc. Seeing them gain every day really helps put my mind at ease. I weigh my boys every couple of days and see their weights go up by the recommended 0.75 ounces per day that infants are supposed to gain. I know enough not to freak out if they don't gain in 2 days, but I do like seeing the overall pattern, and being able to plug their weights into an online infant weight calculator and know they are gaining like they should be. My boys were in the 18th% and 25th% by weight 3 weeks ago, and now at almost 7 weeks they are in the 25th% and 32nd%. So I know they are not only gaining along their curve, they are actually gaining slightly over it. The scale measures to 0.5 pounds, which is enough to see a daily difference. I try to aim more for using the scale every other day or so to avoid being worried over nothing, but waiting every 3-4 weeks until my next pediatrician visit is just too long. I would hate to go in and find out my guys were significantly underweight. I think this is almost a requirement for breastfeeding moms, and just as essential as the breastfeeding pillow, dual electric breast pump, or the nursing cloak which I have also bought. In theory you don't need it, but for optional equipment it is a VERY good one to have. It helps you know what is going on with your little one, and assures you they are gaining well BEFORE it becomes a problem that your doctor has to inform you of.

My cat has needed to lose weight and I was getting sick of the stress of weighing myself and then weighing him (and surely being picked up stressed him out too), so I ordered this to make our lives easier. I thought I would need a blanket to put on the weighing area to get him comfortable with the idea of being weighed on the scale, but to my surprise he was perfectly fine lying down on it without one. The readings have been accurate with the readings I got by subtracting his weight from my own when I used my bathroom scale to weigh him. Only issue I can say I have with it is that the pounds are measured with ounces rather than decimals and I had trouble making heads or tails of the ounces at first, but getting a kilogram reading and converting it to pounds isn't so bad. So if you don't have a baby or don't intend on having a baby but happen to have a small animal whose weight you need to track like I do, this is a worthy investment!

This item is great! Assembles easily out of package. Easy to use. Toddler version of the scale looks like the face of a bear when all put together. Scale is very accurate (I tested it with produce that I had purchased and weighed with a store digital scale and this scale matched the readings). This has been very useful to keep track of my baby's weight. The platform is very stable to hold a wiggly baby and I recommend using this only on flat surfaces (NOT carpeting) for best results. Hold button is useful so that I can put my baby down safely and still have the reading held on the screen so I can see it afterwards. Can also put a diaper in the platform first, then turn on the scale so that it will reset the zero, remove the diaper and then put my baby in the platform wearing a fresh diaper so that I get a true weight of my baby without the diaper weight. I am very pleased with this purchase. I would recommend this to a friend and other new parents.

This product is superb. Excellent build quality, great precisions and accuracy, and the price is unbelievable. My wife and I have been using this scale to track our newborn baby's daily weight and the scale has amazed us with how well it performs. This scale delivers consistent weight readings again and again, unlike most home-use digital scales. The ability to zero out before weighing our daughter means we can cancel out the weight of her diaper and a towel for her to lay on. This way she can be comfortable while being weighed accurately. We've also found it very useful to weight her before and after she is [...]-fed so we can know exactly, down to the 1/2 ounce, how much milk she has consumed. Everyone told us it was impossible to know how much milk she was getting and to simply count her dirty diapers. With this scale the impossible becomes possible! We can even zero out a clean diaper, and then weigh a dirty diaper to see how much her pee and poo she passed in her diaper. The sky is truly the limit with this scale. In terms of build quality, I'm confident this scale will last many years into the future. It has a very durable feel to it. As I said above, I am shocked this scale doesn't cost much, much more.

While likely not as accurate as the ones used by the Doctors, it is overall very useful to have and simple to use. Very sensitive too. It picks up the weight of a swaddle wrap. It needs a single 9 volt battery, which you have to buy yourself. I was worried about our recent new born who had lost over 10% of her bodyweight. And she didn't seem to be gaining as fast over the following 2 weeks since birth. But by checking with this, it definitely motivated us to keep going at it with the feeding (mainly spooning milk in between feedings). I'm happy to say, it definitely helped push us over the edge for our daughter gaining weight as recommended and milk now producing better as one of the days, her weight actually went down, so we really blitzed it after a lower weighing which really helped turn the corner. It also took the anxiety out of the Dr. Visits and relying only on them to measure the weight.

Works great! Easy to use! Perfect for keeping track of my babies weight gain. I have used it for weight before and after a feeding to gauge how many ounces my daughter ate while breastfeeding and it seems very accurate. Only thing different about this scale to ones in our health offices is that the scale doesn't average the weight so the numbers change anytime baby moves, which is what the hold button is for but if you hit it while they squirm you can freeze it on a much higher weight than they actually are.
