Great Mattress!
Like so many others, I was extremely nervous about purchasing a mattress online. I'm a broke, recently graduated college student. I couldn't afford to buy this mattress, hate it, and then get something else. I also have a bad back (I've been in chiropractic treatment for the last four years) and have been a chronic insomniac since I was 8. I had a Sleep Number mattress for many years, and this memory foam mattress blows it out of the water! FRIMNESS: This is a firm mattress. If you plop down on this mattress, it feels hard at first, and then you sink into it. I needed a firmer mattress for my back, and this is perfect for me. With my Sleep Number bed, I had it set on 50-60 (out of 100, 100 being the firmest possible) and the problem was it wouldn't stay at 50-60. The problem with air beds is that the longer you sleep on them, their ability to hold air depreciates with time. I would have to fill it back up every few days, and it still wasn't giving me the back support I needed. With memory foam, you don't have that problem! It's the same firmness and support every night. The lower curve of my spine is a bit curvier than most people, and lying flat on my back on this mattress it feels completely supported. The foam definitely contours to your body. BAD BACK: I've slept on this mattress for two weeks now. After graduation I moved from NY to TN, a 14 hour drive that I knew was going to murder my back. I shipped this mattress ahead of time to my friend's house and she set it up for me--no chemical smell, and it rose to the full 12 inches within a day. She complained that it was really a two person job but she managed to haul it up the stairs and open it herself. (I bought her beer as a thank you.) On an average night on my Sleep Number bed, I would wake up anywhere from 3 to 5 times a night. On the two weeks I've slept on this mattress, I've woken up no more than once a night, and that's been more about getting used to sleeping in a brand new place. This is a huge, huge, HUGE improvement for me. Last night I went to bed with an aching back from a day of walking around Nashville. I iced a little before I went to sleep, and woke up this morning with my back feeling completely renewed and rested and not achy at all. If you have a lot of mid to lower back pain and are constantly aching after long days of standing/walking, this is a great mattress! HEAT: A huge problem with memory foam is that they can be incredibly hot. I am a person who needs to feel cool or I can't sleep. (Like, 65 degrees in the room kind of cool.) I have noticed some heat with this mattress, but not enough that it's an issue. I sleep with three blankets on me--two quilts, one comforter, and I'm completely comfortable. This may be different depending on what temperature you need to be in order to sleep comfortably, but I imagine if I ever got too hot just removing a blanket would fix that problem. SHEETS: This mattress does not require deep-pocket sheets. MONEY: I had budgeted $300-400 for a new mattress. Like I said, broke and recently graduated. With tax this came to $328, free shipping. I had a $25 Amazon gift card that brought it down to $303 and I couldn't be happier with the price I paid for such a quality mattress that has been a huge help for my back issues.

A great nights sleep, a great value, so far anyway.
We have been using this mattress for a week now, so I now feel comfortable writing an initial review (no pun intended). I like the mattress a lot, I ordered my kids twin inner spring mattresses from Amazon last year, so the rolled up vacuum packed mattress concept wasn't the novelty it was then, but was still kind of cool. Naturally the mattress is a bit heavy, my very healthy 19 year old son and I had no problem carrying it (still in the box) to my bedroom, we had more trouble carrying the old pillow top mattress out. The box has a cartoon of a tiny female loading the mattress in its box into her Mini and carrying it into her house, she must be a very strong woman, she would have to be to accomplish this by herself. Anyway, the mattress unrolled and inflated without issue, and didn't even have wrinkles on the cover. Once inflated and ready, we put the same sheets we used on our old pillow top on it, and they fit very well, and were easier to get the corners pulled down than the old mattress. We reused our old (very high quality, very good condition) box spring, and it doesn't seem to be a problem with this mattress at all. I have never used a memory foam mattress before, aside from trying them out in a couple of stores (After laying down on one I was hooked). I have always preferred a very firm mattress, my wife prefers a soft mattress, so we have never been able to find one that was just right for both of us, until now. The first few nights I was a little off put by the feeling when you first lay down on the mattress, it felt kind of mushy (remember, I like a very firm mattress), but once you lay down the mushy feeling goes away and everything feels nice and firm, not hard, and certainly not lumpy, just nice and firm, once you have sank down into it and it contours to your body, the feeling is hard to describe, but it is very comfortable and pleasant. My wife also really likes the mattress. We have both been sleeping better, and I wake up feeling more rested. Our old mattress wasn't completely worn out, but it was showing its age at eight years, and my wife was starting to complain. It wasn't until I slept on the new mattress that I realized how bad the old one was. I have minor back issues, and the old mattress wasn't helping matters, the new one does help them, since getting it I have been waking up feeling great. I had been waking up with minor pain in my back, and my knees and shoulders feeling a little stiff and aching a bit, I just chalked it up to getting older (I am 41, and have lived an action packed life, never holding back physically), but since changing mattresses I have felt great in the morning. I didn't realize it at first, I just woke up and went about my routine (I am not a morning person), a couple of days later I realized that when I stood up after drinking my cup of coffee that my back wasn't aching, and my knees weren't cracking, I also noticed that my shoulders felt fine. I won't say it was a life changing experience, it wasn't. What it was was a good reminder that you spend a huge part of your life in your bed, and compared to what you get out of it a few bucks more or less on a mattress is nothing, and with the prices for this mattress there is no reason to accept a worn out or poor quality mattress. My only concern is longevity, neither my wife or I are that overweight (I have to admit to suffering a bit of middle age spread, but no more than 20 pounds), so I would expect a quality inner spring mattress to last 6-10 years, and would like to think I will get that much out of this mattress, but if I don't I won't be upset, the price is half of what I expect to pay for a lower end quality traditional mattress, so if I replace it after three years, I will still be ahead, four years or more and it is still a bargain. I still have a few questions about this mattress, and concerns, but won't know the answers for a while. It is February in East GA, the weather is cool, so I wouldn't be able to tell you if it holds too much heat until later in the spring. I honestly don't know how it will hold up over time, but I do know this, if it is still performing like it does now in two years, I will almost certainly replace it with another one just like it, if it lasts three years I promise you I will replace it with the same model. However it works out, I will update this review for better or worse. UPDATE Nearly three years later and I am still happy. One side is starting to get worn out, but that is my fault, I haven't rotated the mattress a single time, I don't think it would be an issue if I had. After a couple of long hot summers I have no complaints of the mattress being too hot. When it is time to replace it, I will get another memory foam, maybe this same model.

Good value firm cushy mattress. Only diff between 6-12" models is mattress height - not cushiness.
I originally bought a Signature Sleep memory foam mattress for my son as a transition from a toddler bed. I thought it was going to be temporary (so whatever about buying a mattress rolled up in a box instead of something from the mattress store). For a temporary bed this highly rated, inexpensive mattress seemed ideal. Little did I know how much we'd love this mattress and would eventually end up buying 3 more. This mattress is the perfect firmness for us and contours to our bodies really well - the foam density is firm but feels soft against body with good cushioning (it doesn't sag on you but feels soft against your skin). It doesn't warm up a lot from your body heat either. My husband has had back surgery and shoulder problems and we had used an expensive mattress to provide good support. It was getting time for a new mattress for us, and we were going to get that same expensive brand - that is, until I discovered how comfortable our son's bed was, better than even the pricy one. So now we've bought one of these for our bed and for guest rooms too. Now every time we sleep away from home my husband wakes up sore and wishing for his own mattress. The packaging was way better than expected. When the mattress arrived, I accidentally had it shipped to the address I was moving out of. I was worried about moving a huge box myself but it was fine! It was about 50 pounds but easy to get my arms around because it was compressed so much in a small box due to it being vacuum sealed. The mattress was rolled up tube shaped in the box, wrapped in plastic wrap and then wrapped again in a super thick plastic bag. I was glad for all of the plastic because sometimes cardboard shipping boxes get punctured, and the plastic kept the mattress clean. A quick slit of the plastic and the mattress immediately started inflating. It was almost completely inflated in 2 hours but remained was sloped at the edges a bit for about a day and a half. (You can sleep on it before the 72 hours pass after opening - it won't hurt it but the manufacturer advises this so your mattress airs out. The smell is not bad from this brand of mattress like I noticed with the last memory foam pillow I bought). The mattress can only be used on one side (memory foam is on top layers of the mattress with other layers underneath it). This means that you don't flip it over like conventional mattresses. Every now and then (maybe once a year) I rotate it from top to bottom but I haven't had any sagging or flattening on any of the mattresses in 4 years of use. When moving, I used a 4mil plastic bags to transport the already open mattresses. You can't smoosh them back down to the vacuum sealed size after they're opened. I wondered what the difference was between 6, 8, 10, and 12 inch models - the only difference is in height of the mattress. They'll all feel the same when you lie on them. The 12" won't be "cushier" or more or less firm than the 6". I use a slatted frame with this mattress on all of the beds (no box springs). The 8" was the perfect height for me with a bed frame and no foundation. Even without the foundation, you can't feel the slats through the mattress. I did sleep on this mattress directly on the floor with no frame for a few days until the frame came and it was still comfortable (felt the same, but I prefer to be up off the ground.) The fabric on the top of the mattress is nice feeling and looks like maybe it's removable because it has a zipper, but it's not intended as a removable washable cover. I separately bought a good quality washable mattress pad and regularly wash that instead. Can't say enough good things about this mattress!

Review updated and now not so happy.
REVIEW UPDATE ON 12.23.15: I've taken my original 5 star review and made it now 4 stars. For the price and what this is, it's a good mattress. HOWEVER, I need something VERY firm and this is not firm. To some perhaps, but to most I think not. Now my back is killing me every day and that tight feeling in my legs I put in my original review has never gone away and is in fact worse. I haven't lowered the stars on this further than a 4 because I do think it's a nice mattress, but it's not for me. My back pain keeps getting worse and never goes away and now I walk as though I'm about 80 years old -- and I'm significanly younger than that age. Now my husband and I are faced with getting a new mattress - but this time we'll spend the money on exactly what we need. And if you're wondering, he has back pain as well from the mattress but not as bad as mine. For some this will be a good mattress for them; unfortuantely, in less than a year it became a bad mattress for us. ORIGINAL REVIEW: I wanted to wait a bit before I reviewed the mattress to really see how I felt about it. I've been sleeping on it now for about a two months and I am delighted by this purchase! I give it a 5 for price/value (I purchased a King size for around $353 -- wowee)and a 5 for comfort. I wasn't home when it arrived and by the time I got home my husband had already gotten it upstairs (it it's big and awkward but apparently in it's blue cloth bag with handle it's not to difficult to get it upstairs). We followed the instructions placing it on the bed before carefully cutting off the plastic. The foam smell was not overpowering and after leaving it for a day with windows open it was completely gone. Once the plastic was off it took it's full shape, though we left alone the recommended full 48 hours to be sure it had indeed reached its full size. This mattress is a hundred times better than my old mattress (I kept rolling to the middle) and the one that replaced it (an off-brand air mattress similar to the Sleep Number bed but it wasn't good. Guess what? I rolled to the middle after a few weeks and mattress never got firm enough after the first two weeks of use). Now I was leery that I would once again roll to the middle (I was beginning to think it was me) but that hasn't happened. Both my husband and I sleep great. We don't have back pain. I actually thought the mattress was going to be a tad bit more firm, but it's not a problem. I think because our previous mattress had memory foam on top meant I was already used to it. I had worried I would sleep "hot" since I kept reading that memory foam retains heat, but I've not found that to be any different than the way I normally sleep. With a cat and my husband both next to me that is the norm for me, but if the cat is off the bed then I'm usually fine. I don't see it as a mattress issue. The only thing I've found is that sometimes I feel my legs are "tight" and I need to stretch throughout the day. I believe it may be that I'm sleeping well and not turning much and that could be causing this feeling. It's not an issue and I believe it's unique to me. I do not mark down my 5 stars for this. Oh, and one last thing. In case anyone is wondering what our foundation is, we had purchased a box spring for our previous mattress not realizing it needed a hard surface so we then bought plywood to put down between the mattress and box spring. That's now what our memory foam mattress is on so be sure you either have a hard surface or purchase the recommended foundation to get the best result. So in conclusion, I'm THRILLED by this mattress.

The most comfortable mattress I've ever owned
UPDATE: 03/22/2024 As stated in my initial review below, while I absolutely loved this bed and found it perfectly comfortable at first, it did develop compression and sagging after only about 3-4 years, in spite of rotating the bed often. As the bed does have a 10-year warranty, I went to the company website and chatted with them about my issues with the mattress, and they offered a resolution that was more than fair. I have changed my review from 4-star to 5 because of the amazing customer service, and I would most definitely order a mattress from them again in the future. ******* I suffer from debilitating chronic full-body pain and insomnia, and this mattress pretty much saved my life. It has the perfect amount of support. I'm usually a side sleeper, but all sleeping positions were comfortable with this mattress. We did allow the full amount of time for the mattress to inflate, and there were no problems with reaching the full 12 inch height as advertised, no terrible chemical smell (the faint smell it did have dissipated in a couple of hours). We don't sleep too hot on this, and haven't needed a foam topper, the comfort level was perfect as is. The bad, though, is that after only 3 years of sleeping on it this mattress there is now a lot of sagging on each side. We have rotated the mattress every other month, but it's at a point where this doesn't make a difference, and suddenly my chronic pain has returned. Signature Sleep seems to be a great company, and I'm extremely hopeful that they will honor the warrantee because of the significant sagging that has occurred in such a short amount of time, because when this mattress was in its prime, nothing could match it. I will be reaching out to the company soon to get detailed instructions on how to make a claim for a replacement. However, even with this said, this mattress is indeed a good good purchase. This was the most comfortable bed I've ever owned, and especially if they stand by their 10 year warranty - it's possible that the sagging that I've experienced with this bed may be just a fluke, and the replacement bed will last a much longer amount of time. If that is the case, Signature Sleep will have me as a customer for life for their top notch quality products and service. Thank you for saving me from sleepless nights and allowing me a respite from my pain. I will update this review once I've been in touch with the company, and hopefully will be able to change this to a 5-star review.

So firm it caused serious lower back pain
UPDATE 5/5/2016 I have spent a considerable amount of time sleeping on this bed now. And I am sad to say that the lower back pain problem has not only NOT subsided, it has gotten WORSE! If I can manage to sleep through the night (which I often can't) I wake up in so much pain that I have a difficult time getting out of bed and getting dressed! This bed is too firm with little give. I expected that after sleeping on it for a while it might soften up but this has not been the case. There is none of that "hugged by a cloud" soft comfort I was expecting. And like I said, I like a decently firm mattress, but this is just too much. At this point I'm considering going back to an air mattress because I can't afford to replace this bed yet. I really wanted to love this bed, but I can't deal with this back pain. My boyfriend also wakes up in pretty bad pain when he sleeps on it, though lately he's been sleeping on the couch because he hates it. While this bed can be a great deal, and it seems to work well for a LOT of people, it's just causing me too much back pain to continue sleeping on. Also, I don't know if this makes a difference or not, but it NEVER expanded to the full 12 Inches. I have changed my rating to one star as a result. Feb 22, 2016 This bed went down to about $288 and since I have been sleeping on either a pullout couch or an air mattress since I moved into a new apartment, I figured it was the perfect time to get a new bed. I've had numerous memory foam mattresses in my wishlists for a while now, so I've been trying to keep an eye on pricing and reviews, which led me to believe this bed would be a good purchase for me. The bed is rolled up in a big box which is kind of cumbersome for one person to deal with but it isn't anything too horrible (because I made my BF do it). It definitely wouldn't stop me from purchasing again. The bed was unrolled on a frame that I purchased (which arrived the same day) and was super flat when it was unrolled. I was worried about it not expanding even close to the 12 inch mark. 24 hours later it was at 10 1/2 inches, 48 hours later and it's holding steady at 11 inches. The bed didn't smell or anything so that was good. I'm a little unhappy that it didn't seem to hit the full 12 inches. One thing that I did notice though is HOLY COW THIS THING IS SOOOOO ROCK HARD. I like firm beds, but wow, this bed is super hard. I think I read that after a while it might soften a bit, so that will be good.. because while I like firm beds, my BF absolutely doesn't. He's pretty cranky about this one, in fact. In my opinion, the bed is VERY COMFORTABLE to fall asleep on, but for me, waking up is awful. I had a similar 12 inch memory foam before I moved and it did wonders for my back. So far when I wake up on this one I have some pretty bad lower back stiffness. I'm hoping that this will correct itself over time. Also, I know this is probably more the frames fault than the mattress but it slips around so much on the frame it drives me crazy. I'm not sure if it's because there is a weird backing on the bed that makes it much more prone to slippage, but this bed absolutely will not stay in place on the frame. If you even sort of lean against it, it moves. I tried to sit down on it and it slipped backwards and I almost ended up sitting on the frame itself. Now, I've only had the bed a very short amount of time, so I'll update it after a while. I had some issues with other memory foam mattresses where the top layer pulls up at the corners after a few months, and I'm hoping that this one wont do that.

Will update!
Okay, so a few things. First of all, I have yet to SLEEP on this mattress. This is my initial review of the process and product thus far. Shipping: I purchased this mattress 12/10/17. While Prime usually ships things in 2 days, this took 8 days to reach me. Not a huge deal, I really don't mind waiting. It was only nerve-wracking because while I was tracking the package, Amazon indicated that it may be lost. Thankfully, after about a day or two, the tracking updated, which informed me that the mattress was NOT lost, just delayed. Unpacking: I can't tell you how thankful I was to have someone help me haul and unpack this beast. I bought an 8" Queen, and boy was it heavy! It came in a long, sturdy cardboard box. It took both of us and trying out a few different cutting utensils to pry it open. After shimmying the rolled up mattress out of there, the rest was cake. I cut open the plastic wrap and immediately the mattress began to expand. Verdict: It took about an hour or an hour-and-a-half before the mattress was fully decompressed. Or, rather, it seems fully decompressed. The head and foot of the mattress has a slight crease. It isn't noticeable unless you feel for it, and I would never notice it just laying on the bed. The mattress itself is definitely memory foam, and certainly firm. I need a more firm mattress because of some back issues, so this seems promising. The quilted mattress cover is VERY soft and comfortable. I'm hoping its design won't trap in heat so much, as I am someone who runs hot and needs a mattress that can breathe. I decided not to sleep on it last night when I received it in order to give it a full 24 hours to decompress. I'm aware that the manufacturer suggests up to 72 hours, but seeing as it so readily expanded and seems to be as ready as it will be, I'll give it a go tonight. I will update my review based on how tonight goes. ***EDIT 12/21/17*** After night two of sleeping on this mattress, I can say with full confidence that I am in LOVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! As mentioned, I the mattress is firm. It isn't firm to the point of being uncomfortable. The mattress conforms beautifully to my body any way I lay on it- back, sides, and front. Remember those commercials consisting of people jumping up and down on a mattress and not disturbing a glass of wine? Yeah, I didn't jump on the bed, but I banged on it a bit with a cup of water resting on the mattress close by and not once did I fear it would tip over. I even have two cats who have laid on it and I was able to move around and situate myself without disturbing them. Furthermore, I have always tossed and turned in my sleep. I'm an insomniac and have an awful time trying to rest. This mattress has completely changed things for me. I found myself tossing SIGNIFICANTLY less than before. Last night was the second night I spent on it, and I didn't even toss or turn once and I slept through the night. The relief I've felt is staggering, so if you're someone who finds yourself tossing like me, this may work for you. The only potential downside is that, of course, this is memory foam. As such, it does hold in some heat. However, I run very hot, and I haven't been bothered by the heat. The mattress definitely breathes better than others I've slept on. If this is the only turn-off you may have about the bed, I suggest perhaps looking into a fan. All in all, I would highly recommend this bed for people who find themselves tossing and uneasy at night who need a bit more support for joints. The way the bed hugs you is very snug, but not unpleasantly, just enough to make you not want to turn over. I have noticed a slight diminishing in my back pain while sleeping on this. I sleep with a fan simply because I run hot and knew that buying a memory foam mattress came with the insurance of SOME heat trapping. This is a very wonderful investment and I couldn't praise this mattress enough. I will update my review if anything changes.

Decent for the money but...........
I bought the 12" in September of 2013 when I weighed 330lbs and I am only 5' 8" tall. It felt GREAT for the first 6 months albeit a little SOFT, but weighing 330lbs I accepted it and then it started to sag a bit. So, I started adding Cardboard and Plywood underneath of it and that helped a lot. I have lost weight and now weigh 280lbs. and the added materials no longer help with the Mattress right side up. So, I turned the mattress over so that the regular FIRM Support Base Foam side is up and still have all the Cardboard and Plywood underneath it and it feels GREAT again. Nice and FIRM!! The issue now is HEAT and trying to find something to put between the mattress and sheets so that it will not be so hot. This mattress slept HOT to me from day one even with a thicker mattress pad. So I put my Goose Down Duvet under that mattress pad and that helped with the Heat issue. Not so much help now that the regular foam side is up. Even when new, sex on this was NOT as nice as on an inner spring mattress. Now that I have turned it over and am using it WRONG it is FINE for sex. Look CLOSELY to the Product Picture above of the woman pressing her hand into the top of the Mattress. That is quite a bit of sinking for just a hand pressing down from her position. That is a VERY good representation of the Memory Foam side of this mattress. It supports WELL when your body is spread out on it. Like being FLAT on your BACK. But, if you are a SIDE sleeper like me you will SINK down in this mattress with the Memory Foam side up. Base Support Foam side up and it supports me like a nice FIRM Inner Spring Mattress. So, I will solve the heat issue and use this for another few years before replacing it. After 3 years of using I would say that for the money this is a decent Memory Foam Mattress. I personally will NEVER buy another Memory Foam mattress again. I like a Firmer Mattress and bought this memory foam mattress based on reviews complaining of it being too firm. I think those reviewers must have had the mattress wrong side up to begin with. lol To anyone who has or gets this mattress and finds it is too soft for them, I would suggest flipping it over to the wrong side up and it will be about 2 to 3x as firm but MUCH hotter. With the mattress WRONG side up it deflects/dents about 2 inches when both of my knees are on it. The memory foam side deflects/dents almost 5 inches when kneeling on it. (Keep in mind that this is with Plywood and Cardboard underneath of it on a Box Spring Base. About 4 inches worth.) Bottom line, I'm glad only spent $300 to try a Memory Foam Mattress and not over $1,000 on some other brand that is NOT any better than this mattress. In the realm of Memory Foam Mattresses I doubt that you could find one much better than this Mattress. UPDATE: 5-27-2017 I have lost even more weight and weigh 256lbs. now. This mattress has become unusable. I took the Memory foam layer off it and tried using just the dense foam core. It is OK for about 3 minutes, but once the foam gets warm from body heat it begins to sink and it has a permanent indentation in the center of it. My back cannot take it any longer. It was put out to the curb/trash 2 days ago. I am now sleeping directly on my foundation while waiting for my new Inner Spring Mattress to arrive. I put a 4" thick Pool Side Chase Lounge Cushion and 2" thick Foam Exercise Pad on the foundation with my Goose Down comforter over that and for the last 2 days my BACK has been doing the Happy Dance. LOL I live in Florida and some other reviews have pointed out that HUMIDITY affects the Firmness of the Foam in this mattress. Once I opened up the permanent mattress cover and took the layers apart, there are only TWO layers......8" High Density (Which squashed down to just 1.5" with my hands pressing it together.) and the 4" Memory foam which (That even when folded over 4x on itself i.e. 16".....squashed down to less than 1/2" when I laid on it.) make up the 12" total height, I found that there was literally ZERO support in these materials after 3 years of use. Bottom line: I see they want over $500 for this mattress now....DO NOT BUY IT!!! For HALF the money I suggest you give something like this a try instead..... Zinus Sleep Master Euro Box Top Classic Spring 12 Inch Mattress, Queen This comes with a 10 year warranty and the company has been actively answering and helping customers for the last 5 years and as current as yesterday on several sites from my research. This Signature Sleep Mattress only has a 1 year warranty and most of the positive reviews for this thing are owners of it for less than a year.
