3-Fabric Quilts: Quick Techniques for Simple Projects

I have been quilting for 8 months, and this has been one of my favorite quilting books so far. If you are very experienced, the info at the beginning may be too basic. But I really appreciated the section on how to choose coordinating fabrics based on design print, color value and scale. This has been invaluable to me. I also love the concept of making a quilt using three fabrics. I can often find fabric on sale by the yard, and to only need 3 different fabrics to be able to make a quilt is wonderful and affordable! I love many of the patterns, and have already made started a small quilt based on the modern basket weave. It's turning out beautiful, and I'm sure I'll use that pattern again and again.If I were to give one suggestion for improvement, it would be that the small quilt patterns be lap size or toddler size rather than 36"x36" or 40"x40". 36"x36" is just too small for usefulness to me. But I am adding additional blocks and making the pattern into size appropriate for a lap quilt so I can give it as a gift, and that isn't difficult to do at all.

I've used my first book some much, the pages were coming apart. I had to order another one.

This book was so helpful and easy to follow. I'm in my late 20s and new to quilting. From my personal experience I think this is a great beginners first quilt book if you actually want to make something and finish it in a viable timeline. I bought 3 other books and this one was the best for me as the projects are realistically accomplishable for newbies. My quilt looks great and I'm now more confident for it. I wanted to start basic so as to not be scared off by a daunting mammoth project that I would discard and never finish. The pretty pictures and easy to follow diagrams made following the step by step instructions a breeze. Even I managed to create something cute and finish it!!!!

This is one of the best quilting books I have ever gotten--and I have plenty! It is simple and easy to follow and shows each quilt two ways, allowing for you to choose which is best for you. I have already made one and love it! The ONLY drawback would be if you do not care for the contemporary look, which is the style of the entire book. Great choice!

great idea, as we aLL HAVE fabric that is not enough for some projects. but great for others.... quick baby quilts, wall hangings. fabric makes the book, and this is not a very attractive book, but ok

I am a beginner quilter and this book is just what I needed. I am involved in the Prayer Square Ministry at our church and I needed simple squares that are not only easy to sew quickly, but have a sense of style as well. Limiting yourself to just three fabrics truly does help to not only save time, but makes better use of all the fabric.

great photographs! Projects are geared perfectly for the beginning quilter, but could also be satisfying for the seasoned quilter as well.

I am a new quilter and I am looking for simple and fun quilts to do as I learn more about quilting. The instructions are clearly written if you're new to quilting and it will keep someone with more experience a modern touch to their book shelf.

Projects themselves are pretty uninspiring, in fact there isn't a single thing I plan to make.However, I don't feel like I have wasted my money buying this book. There is a whole section at the front of the book dedicated to fabric selection which is excellent. The author shows you her process of switching in and out different fabrics using lots of photos to show the often subtly different changes and the effect they have on the collection as a whole. She doesn't just concentrate on colour and tone but on scale and placement too. Really glad I bought this as it has made a huge difference in the way I buy fabric and in the end results of my finished projects.

Very helpful if you have a limited supply of material.All the designs shown are geometric which makes them very dynamic, especially as there is a lot of contrast in the materials chosen. Less contrast would make for quieter-looking quilts.The block patterns are shown arranged for both large and small quilts, with symmetrical and non-symmetrical arrangements which is very helpful

Bought this out of curiosity as I am a traditional quilter but thought it might be good to make some quick and simple ones for gifts. This fits the bill nicely but you still need to choose the right fabrics - and this is something many quilters find hard to do. Only having to choose 3 fabrics in fairly large pieces makes this a much easier task to do successfully.

Love this book. Simple to follow with great looking results. Looking forward to starting my next project using this book. Just cannot decide on which one to start on as they are all lovely.

I bought this book because I love quilting and don't have enough time. The quilts in this book are modern, fresh and quick (I would say). The instructions are very clear and I can't wait to get started!
