Works great on my tarp

I bought this for punching holes in leather guitar straps to facilitate the install of Schaller strap locks which require about a 3/8" hole. I was very impressed with how sharp it was. I got about 90% of the way through a multiple layered high quality leather guitar strap just by twisting the punch back and forth lightly. Then I used a dead blow mallet to finish cutting the hole and the Schaller Strap lock fit in the hole perfectly snug.Is it overkill to have an industrial strength tool for popping a hole in a guitar strap? Maybe but I used to use a 3/8" drill bit and do this by hand and those of you who use that method know how much it sucks and can potentially tear up a nice leather guitar strap or cause structural issues or tears.Now I can rest assured that my Gretsch White Falcons and 6120s are secured with the Schaller strap locks (I highly recommend them) and popping the holes took no time at all. More time for jammin'!

It works great! It is sharp

I was refurbishing an outside Christmas display using aluminum sheet ( the rolls from Home Depot) and I needed to punch over 700 holes for the lights to go in. The lights snapped into the holes and where held there by small tabs on the lights. The lights needed to fit pretty tight in the hole. This punch did an amazing job. There may have been some dulling through this process, but it wasn't significant and all 700+ holes were punched just fine. I used a 2x4 as a backer board and a 3 lb small sledge as the hammer. I didn't try to punch all holes completely through but the disc snapped off those that weren't through punched. There was a lip formed on the back side of the hole but it was easily flattened out with the same hammer.

If you want a "stays sharp" tool made with high grade metal, buy this punch. The other punches you can buy online that cost the $9 for a set of 5 are crap. This tool is a well made, professional tool. It's so sharp that I am careful not to touch the blade. Be sure to get a good heavy professional rubber mallet to strike it with. Two adages spring to mind: "You get what you pay for" and "Right tool for the right job". Buy this punch and you won't have to buy another for for a long time! PS: I cut leather, 1/4 inch cork and heavy fabric (not canvas!) with mine.

This punch is extremely sharp, unlike many of the punches sold on here. I found some punch "sets" to be completely unacceptable. This goes through 9 ounce leather like butter. Buy it - you WILL like it!
