An amazingly light-weight, touch-screen, 24MP camera, capable of very professional results with proper technique
A superb camera. While I could go on and on about how good the new 24MP imager is; how light but strong the body is; how fast the camera handles big files; and the great overall quality of the images if you lens and technique are good -- it's the touch screen that really makes it stand apart. Once you realize virtually everything can be done via iPhone-like gestures on the big rear articulating LCD, it becomes the fastest DSLR camera I've ever used. This camera is also lighter than ANY DSLR I've ever used, and I've used many Nikon's and Canon's. Since it's largely made from a single piece of polycarbonate, it's exceptionally strong too. I've dropped it on the sidewalk, I know. Although it's still 24MP, Nikon says it's a new sensor, not a carry-over from the D5300. That said, 24MP can make mural-sized photos. This camera is more capable than most lens' ability to resolve. The kit lens (18mm-55mm) while decent, cannot do the imager justice. Try the f1.8 35mm DX, or any older Nikkor 50mm "normal" lens on a tripod. You will be amazed at the resolution. I tested the D5500 with a 50 yr-old f4 200mm Nikkor Q lens, and the results were spectacular. While this camera will only auto-focus with DX lenses, you can manually focus with confidence with almost any Nikon lens because a little dot appears in the viewfinder when you have focused accurately. Exposure can be gauged by looking at the LCD screen. Another strong suit with the D5500 is it's low-light capability. It is nothing short of amazing! Nite photography with fast lenses is easy, hand-held! It is so good, taking pictures of the Milky Way on a clear night is relatively easy. Photos taken at ISO's of 12,500 are ridiculously good. Sure, there's some noise, but it isn't too noticeable depending on the circumstances. Astronomers of the world unite, here is your camera! Make no mistake, the D5500 in capable hands, with solid technique and good lenses, can match ANY camera under $3000. Oh, and it weighs almost nothing and has a touch screen, did I mention that? :D

overall great camera with many uses
This is a great beginner camera! for the price i think you get a great image quality and many features that will help you grow as a photographer. I love the functionality of the flip out screen which is larger and more sleek than the canon models. when I was searching for a camera, I was debating between the canon and nikon and ended up with the nikon d5500. in my price range, this camera had so many more options and I love the build. this camera is a great deal as it even comes with built in wifi (which would cost $40+ extra to get on any other camera that lacked this feature). with in camera wifi, you can download the nikon wireless mobile utility app and use your phone as a shutter remote! you can get great quality photos with this camera without breaking the bank. it is a great body and you can invest in good glass to enhance your photos. perhaps the only downside I can think of is that it is a crop sensor, but at the time when I was a beginner and I was looking at cameras I had no idea what that meant. if you're looking for a full frame sensor then skip on this camera, but if you are not sure what those terms mean this camera will get the job done. I do recommend to upgrade your lenses as soon as possible, do not stick with the kit lens forever. personally, I love the 50mm f1.8. don't be afraid to get our of your comfort zone and get our there and start shooting! :)

amature going semi-pro because the camera is that good.
Like most people here, this is my first DSLR. But unlike most people, I am starting to get semi-pro usage out of it only after a year of owning it. And it doesn't disappoint. When paired with better glass, the camera really does shine. The light weight body comes in handy when trekking up a mountain or shooting an all day festival and the deep grip is reassuring as you make your way around the world. I can't attest for the auto setting because I am forcing myself to learn by always staying in manual. Kind of a "baptism by fire" approach. Didn't take tack long to get the feel of where all the buttons are located and I really appreciate that it has a programmable back focus button. The touch screen is responsive and the tilt comes in handy when either shooting low down and especially when on a monopod shooting high up. Autofocus is decent and doesn't hunt too much. Photos are usually tack sharp even at 1:1. I'm impressed with how clear photos are when pushing the iso way up for concerts and the DX sensor with 24.2 megapixels allows you to crop way down and still keep crisp shots for wildlife and the like. All and all, I am pleased with my purchase and would recommend this to anyone who is interested in moving up from a point and shoot without breaking the bank. Provided some shots but here is a Flickr link of more shots all from the d5500. [...]

Love this camera - truly remarkable for the price!
This really is an amazing camera at a very reasonable price. I am just breaking into the photography industry, and sometimes when I am around other photographers I feel a little embarrassed that my camera my not be a big or impressive as theirs, but then I see my photos and I know this camera is just what I need. Photo quality is so much about the lens and settings, that you likely don't need a very expensive or bulky body to get started. Some day I may upgrade, but for now I will continue to spend my money on glass. I bought a 35mm f/1.8 prime lens, and it took my photos to a whole new level. Invest in a good lens! Anyway, a few more details. The camera is incredibly lightweight, which I love. The body is also very comfortable in my hands and easy to use. My only complaint is that the back-button focus feature assigns the AE lock button as the focus button, and it doesn't seem to work quite right. Sometimes the focus works great and other times it locks my photos and I miss the focus. I am not sure why this is happening, but I wish there was a separate back-button focus.

Worthy upgrade
I'm upgrading from a D5100 which I absolutely love and always found to have excellent image quality. The D5500 is a large enough improvement that I finally decided to pull the trigger and I'm glad that I did. The increased sensor resolution (16 MP to 24 MP) and number of focus points are the biggest benefits for me. Moving from the D5100's 11 focus points to the D5500's 39 focus points has been huge. Not only does it provide more composition options, but focus lock happens much quicker and more accurately. Touch FN is by far my favorite feature letting you use the touchscreen as a secondary control dial for things like apeture, shutter speed, ISO. But I have found the best use of touch FN is for moving around the focus point. With 39 focus points using the directional pad can take a long time to move from one side of the viewfinder to the other. There's so many little improvements to the viewfinder, the rear screen, the size and weight and overall handling. I appreciate how the auto ISO now takes into account your focal length to decide the minimum shutter speed. Being able to remotely take pictures from a smartphone is a great feature. They also moved the microphone to the top of camera. The previous location near the lens tended to capture the autofocus motor noise a lot more. Although I don't take a lot of video, the video quality is a major step up from the D5100. It still locks the apeture and trying to focus in live view is iffy but for still subjects it's great. This is something I would take a star off for except I only really use this camera to take pictures and not video. Last I checked there is no RAW support in Lightroom or Photoshop for the D5500, but you can at least convert the RAW files to DNG using the Adobe converter tool. I assume support will come in the next release for the both these products. I am extremely impressed with this camera and have no problems recommending it to anyone. Updated 4/22/2015: So the autofocus motor is as loud as ever when recording video even with the new mic placement. Oh well. I can confirm the latest release of Adobe Lightroom CC does support RAW files from the D5500 now without having to convert them first.

Beware of Seller - Was sent D5600 model
Review of Seller: This seller has bad practices. I was shipped model D5600 in the wimpiest package, not even a padded box. When I emailed the seller to advise on what I thought was a mistake, I was told it was not. I was given an "upgrade" and that I was welcome to return it. I specially wanted the D5500 because I had read issues with the sync app Snapbridge. I sent a second email, just to confirm that they were out of of the D5500, and I never heard from Jason again. Meanwhile, I had ordered other accessories around this camera body. The hassle to return everything did not appeal to me and I wanted a camera badly, so I kept the model that was shipped to me. Just to show that this seller does not care, I have received courtesy follow up emails for items purchased for less than $50 asking me if everything is okay., any issues let us know. Nothing from this seller. Nothing. Review of D5600 model: So far I like the camera, easy to operate once you read the manual. There is an app that you can download which goes into more details about the camera features and enough videos online showing you the features. I purchased the body only because I wanted an 18-300 mm all purpose lens so there would be no need to swap lenses out. Even though I did a lot of research on which DSLR to get, I thought an upper level camera would suffice. I clearly missed something...lol, and was definitely swayed by a price tag of under $1000, since I would not have gone with a crop sensor camera body. For my needs, and I'd like to think I'm an enthusiastic who has big ideas, such that a full frame camera would have been worth the expense since depth of field would be better and for astro-photography, my goal, the camera would take in more of the landscape/sky. Crop sensors only take in part of a landscape such that using a full frame 35 mm lens the equivalent in a crop body camera would be 52 mm. Not the end of the world and I will work with this camera since I now own it, and I'm sure there's a work around this issue with lenses. And yes, Snapbridge is slow, but if you set it and forget it, the pictures will shortly download to your smartphone. One thing that I've had lots of fun with is taking pictures of flowers, the camera setup is excellent at this.

Much Better Camera than Our Old D40.
It has been 4 months since I researched and purchased this camera. For the sake of a real world review, I am not going back to do the research to get my numbers EXACT. I am going to make a comparison against our D40 which we have used for 8 years. The improvements are as noted. 8 years ago we bought a Nikon D40 with the 18-200MM zoom lens. That is a 6MP camera which has traveled thousands of miles and taken 68,000 pictures. We bought this camera to move into the 24MP world before our first trip to Europe. What a difference the 8 years has made in the Nikon world! I won't bore you with details, but I will say that this camera is 10 times as sensitive in low light conditions as the D40 (ISO up to 32,000 or so), and about 4 times as fast in shooting burst mode as the D40. It has a multi-focal point focus system that uses around up 32 discrete points in the picture for best available focus (the D40 has 1, 2 or 3) and it writes information to ultra fast SD Cards. Oh yeah - it is also 2.4 ozs lighter than the D40 with an improved grip (at least about 80% of folks think it is improved - so try it in your own hands)>

Muy mala descripción del producto y una oferta engañosa
Lamentablemente al investigar sobre el conteo de disparos no era el indicado por el proveedor y tiene más de 160.000 disparos... No lo recomiendo
