Do I need strong trim around the top of the door for this? I think the walls can support it, but our doors have cheap easily pulled off trim....

I was worried at first and when I tried it the mounding was cracking a slight amount, but I think I had the part of the bar sitting too hard against the mounding. Once you set it slightly off the mounding it was fine. Once you figure out placement it's a breeze afterwards. And this is probably a 50+ year old mounding so I'd say any normal door opening will be fine. Once you position it right it never happened again and I'm really happy with this that I can do pull ups at home and not at the gym. Couldn't be happier with it.

Does this have to be screwed into the door frame?

No. But if your door frame is not flat or has ornate moldings, I suggest you place some padding on your pull-up bar (and all contact points) just to protect your door frame from damage. The rubber guard is not sufficient to protect my door frame, and it damaged the molding and paint.

Just got one. it bothers me that the bar has no padding at exactly the position where i want to hold it. anyone else had this problem? any solutions?

agreed. the pro has no padding exactly where most people should be holding it. this design flaw is a deal breaker.

Including the molding the width above my doorway is 7 inches, so will this pull-up bar still work for my situation? It states a depth of 6 in.

We bought this without thinking about the inner door- sadly, it does NOT work on our 8.25" depth inner door. It looks like a great product though.
