Tex-Mex is more than just a flavor-packed cookbook of tried and true recipes for comfort-food favorites like nachos, fajitas, and chili—it’s a way of life. “A revelatory book that will make you want to heartily wander the border.”—Hugh Acheson It was born in the 1940s when traditional Northern Mexican cuisine collided with the robust flavors of Texas ranchers’ kitchens. Now, chef and restaurateur Ford Fry presents the definitive book on the topic with craveable recipes that are heavy on flavor and light on fuss. Peppered throughout are jump-off-the-page photographs, helpful ingredient explainers, playful histories, and important cooking tips. These melty, crispy, hot-as-heck classics include Dirty Breakfast Tacos, Grilled Shrimp Diablo, Cheese Enchiladas Con Chili Gravy, Sopaipillas with Local Honey, and more salsas than you can imagine. Pour yourself a Classic Margarita on the Rocks—don’t forget to salt the rim—and get ready to satisfy the rumble in your stomach. Praise for Tex-Mex “Fry puts his passion into [this] approachable cookbook. . . . [ Tex-Mex ] offers recipes for all-time favorites like nachos, fajitas, and enchiladas, with lesser-known dishes like albondigas, and staples such as migas and campechana de mariscos.” — The Atlanta Journal-Constitution “Ford Fry’s food is warm, inviting, and soulful, and his passion for all things Tex-Mex—from queso to combo plates—is contagious. If you love refried beans, salsa, enchiladas, and tacos, you’ll want to cook everything in this beautiful and lively new book. I know I’ll be referring to it time and time again.” —Lisa Fain “These authors make the perfect team to capture the crave-ability of Tex-Mex. This fantastic book will lead you to discover the soul of Texas’s ultimate comfort food.” —Tyson Cole “The photos and recipes make you salivate and the stories remind you of the friends and family who you’ve shared a basket of warm chips and salsa with countless times before. I for one plan to enjoy this book the way it was meant to be: with a big bowl of queso dip in front of me and an ice-cold margarita in hand!” —Kevin Gillespie Review: Must Have Guide Also Makes An Amazing Gift! - Well written 256 page book. It's absolutely aesthetically pleasing to the eye. Great artwork, sturdy hardcover and eye catching page designs! I love how this book is not just recipes but starts off by educating the core differences between authentic Mexican and Tex-Mex on top of listing recommended restaurants of a particular city and tools/ingredients associated with Tex-Mex. I am ashamed to say I honestly didn't know at all about these differences growing up as I was a sheltered and ignorant kid. Only as an adult did I finally learn that cheese enchiladas aren't authentic mexican. And that's perfectly fine! This is an absolute must read for anyone interested in this well written guide and recipe book. Colors on many pages just POP at ya so for those who aren't excited by such bright colors might not have the greatest time navigating this book but it personally does not bother me. I feel this also makes a great gift for someone new to cooking in general or interested in this corner of food. Review: Try the enchiladas! - We made the West Texas style flat shrimp enchiladas for our first dish from this book. It was Sooooo good!! My husband dialed down the heat in the paste because I’m a weenie, so I could enjoy it. If you like spicey (and I mean SPICEY!) then go full throttle. He loves spicey and after eating it, even HE isn’t sure he’d be able to endure it at full strength. Definitely would recommend if you love Tex Mex!

Real Tex Mex recipes -- the best from a Texan Mexican food fan
These recipes are true to the Houston Mexican food scene where I grew up. Know that Tex-Mex is a unique version of "Mexican" food that is not found everywhere. I live in Louisiana now and there is nothing close to this type of cuisine in this area. My son really digs the queso recipe!

So excited about this cookbook!
This was perhaps the most exciting cookbook I have ever purchased because it was filled with all the foods I actually want to eat every single day of my life. There were tons of gorgeous photos accompanied by a colorful and fun design. There is a lot of background information about tex mex food, but it's interesting and succinct enough that you won't lose interest. I bought this cookbook completely on a whim when I saw it listed as a new release and I'm SO glad I did. With the exception of the seafood and alcoholic beverage chapters, I marked almost every single recipe as something I want to try. I loved that all of the recipes looked flavorful and delicious without any hard to find ingredients or techniques. I'm so excited to dig in and start trying out these recipes. I think this will prove to be an essential cookbook in my collection that I will turn to often!

Fantastic book.
I've only made one recipe so far (chilli) but it was delicious and I would definitely recommend this book for that recipe alone! The book is easy to follow and well presented, with a good balance of photos and writing.

THEE Tex Mex Book
This book covers it all - from breakfast to dessert. I've made several recipes from the book and they are fantastic. Ford keeps it simple. Most of the ingredients are basic and easily available, and only the peppers are specific. You can eat cheaply and amazingly well.

Complex
The book looked good but it is complicated, not in method but in overall recipe. I love cooking but found this book frustrating and rather pompous!
