HO Scale Building Kits - National Oil Company

It was really cool but you had to paint the tiny parts, which was hard, when you have big fingers.

I ordered the HO scale. First, I like the finished product. However, it was a challenge. To start, many of the reviews for this Fire Station are not for this model but for other kits (fried chicken store, church, super market, etc). The instruction for this kit is 1 page and just one side of that. I went on the Walther website and found a better set of instructions for the firehouse in N scale, 4 pages. The N scale kit is not as detailed but the instructions helped a lot. The kit included a lot of parts that had nothing to do with the firehouse, can't figure out why they were included. Next, my buildings main walls came in 2 colors. The front and right wall are premolded in light tan, the rear and left wall are premolded in red brick (see picture). If you have room in your layout, a great value from Walther is the Water Street Warehouse.. Big footprint, better instructions, reasonable price.

Comes with a single sheet of instruction with just one view of model. Not for beginners! Rated it four stars because one window frame is missing in the proper size. Created my own which works well enough for no one to notice.

I'm assuming you have a picture of the completed kit to look at.The main minuses in the kit sent to me include (in the order encountered following the directions):(1) the front long railing of the "wooden" platforms at the top of the platform support for each oil tank did not match the diagram; each lacked a 2nd full-length vertical post as shown in the picture & the assembly diagram.Also, the horizontal railing bar was too long to fit properly against the short railing it was supposed to fit against. (2) Each oil tank came in 2 halves (upper & lower), the fit of which was supposed to be guided accurately by pins molded into one half fitting into sockets molded into the other half. But for one of the tanks, the pins on one half did not produce a proper fit when pushed intp the sockets. I had to file the pins off to mate the two halves properly.(3) The pre-printed stick-on decals do not stick on the plastic of the tanks. I had to use a glue stick instead (not sure how long it will hold). The circular decals for the ends of the tank are fitted on a curved surface and can't be completely flattened without wrinkling. Also, there were only 2 decals for the 2 tanks, not one for each of 4 ends.(4) There's no apparatus for supplying the storage tanks from railroad tank cars and no tanker-truck filling apparatus so that the oil can be distributed the gas stations etc.Pluses:(1) The price is low (<$20) for a HO scale kit.(2) Each tank is mounted on an individual base (and the tiny office can be mounted on a separate base too). This allows several different arrangements to fit different shaped areas on a layout.(3) There are a number of power/phoneline poles, call boxes, barrels, tools, lumber stacks, and pipe sections that can be distributed around the setting, if desired.

Very difficult to build. Instructions are poor. My husband builds model tanks and was baffled at the complexity and frustration of this model.You have to paint all the details (roof included!). Very tedious. However, it does turn out very cute in the end. Would never want to build another KFC though!

I found the instructions were lacking they do identify parts that go together but you need to magnify them to see a lot of them after u Do all the windows do the real tiny pieces next or you want b able 2 without difficulty also had a lot of pieces that don't fit anywhere but you will get a usable piece.

Good model, accurate etc. but I sure wish the roof was prepainted - that’s a pain.

The model that I received was not as shown in image, the front and side walls were black. Not a vintage look at all.
