This is a nice trash can. We had to throw out our last, rather expensive, stainless steel lidded trash can in our last move. After cleaning up the mess our cats made knocking over a "normal" trash can yet again, I decided it was time to get another lidded can. With a germ-ophobe in the house, we prefer step on to any other lidded can, but don't really have the money at the moment to invest in another expensive can. This is proving to be a capable alternative. Instead of a full lining, it simply has a ring at the top to hold down the bag, but this works just as well in our experience. It is definitely easier for my husband to manage getting the bag to stay tucked away than our old can was.I like how the can is as big as a standard kitchen trash bag, so there seems to be no wasted space in the bag when we remove it from the bin. The step works quickly and easily, but it's also possible to open it with a hand, which at times I prefer.One thing that annoys me a bit is that the base is slightly smaller than the top. This doesn't appear to impact its stability - the cats havent managed to knock it over yet - but it does get pushed into the wall over time as we push into it with a foot to open it. So it's a bit tilted most of the time. It just looks odd, but doesn't impact the workings of the trash can, so it's something I just correct when I see it and move on.I also don't think this will hold up for nearly as long as our last trash can did. The ring that holds the bag in is just plastic with plastic hinges that don't feel super sturdy. They only get messed with when you change the bag, so it isn't a big problem, but they probably eventually will break. If those can be cheaply replaced, this can will probably last many years. While the step itself is plastic, the mechanism is metal and very sturdy and not exposed, so the risk of damage is minimal.I feel like I got a good deal on this trash can, and I like that if we decide we need another in our house, this is cheap enough to just buy again. While I don't think it will last forever, I think it is sturdy enough for now. And it looks nice enough, too.

Five years later and it's still in perfect condition. Definitely will only rebuy these for my home.

I really like this trash can. It's one of the better ones you can buy if you're not into spending 80$ on a trash can! Step to open is necessary imo. The plastic pieces at the top (1st pic) hold the bag in place nicely. The one slight issue there is that they need to lift up a bit more to secure the bag properly. If you pull up too hard the piece holding it in place snaps off and then it's useless. If that piece breaks you need a whole new can. So a little more room would be good. Next, I wish it was easier to clean. If you see in the 2nd photo, the lid has all these extra ridges that create tiny spaces where dirt gets trapped and you can't get in them to clean it unless you use a q tip or something. All those extra plastic ridges are unnecessary and complicate cleaning. Maybe the circular one is for structure but why not just use a sturdier piece of plastic instead? Same thing at the bottom of the can (3rd pic), all those little nooks and crannies are hard to clean and cause dirt to build up. I clean each time I change the bag to control this, however, say if a bag tears and liquids leak out... It's very difficult to get it back to perfectly clean unless you spray it with hose or something. This is highly impractical because the can needs to be totally dry before you put the bag in or else dirt particles get in the water and you've got a whole new mess. I recommend using a strong bag that won't tear to avoid this. That being said, these are minor issues and if you're careful and clean consistently it's no bother. All in all I'm happy with this and would definitely recommend it!tl;dr: great can but somewhat difficult to clean and some smaller parts can break.
