Jump Girl: The Go Girls Chronicles Book 2 Paperback – November 22, 2014

Jump Girl follows the life of Ebony Scott Harris, an eighteen year old competitive show jumper with a troubled past: she has no money, her mother figure Cecile is dead, and Cecile's sister Annika is mean-spirited and money-focused. Despite this, Ebony doesn't give up on her dreams of becoming a show jumper.Leigh portrays competition very well: this isn't a magical story about Ebony winning in no matter what the situation; instead, like a real athlete, Ebony struggles with difficult losses. It's always nice to read a sports novel that doesn't have that perfect Disney ending, so even though I don't share Ebony's love for horses, I was able to connect with her as a fellow athlete. Throughout the course of the novel, Ebony faces different fears and changes as a person -- another success, because the horses and Ebony's competition results don't overshadow (or magically fix) the personal issues she deals with. Awesome!I found Jump Girl via Leigh's first novel, Rev Girl. Since I don't have a background in show jumping, and the novel doesn't offer explanations about different terms, I would sometimes get a bit lost -- if you don't know much about horses, keep a glossary open to the side because there will be a lot of terms you miss. That said, I wouldn't want these terms removed -- horse breeds and jump types may mean nothing to me, but they add a layer of authenticity to the story that I would hate to lose.I also thought some of the conflicts were too easily overcome. That said, this was a fun read. I liked the connections between this book and Rev Girl; while I personally found the latter a more compelling read, I certainly don't regret reading Jump Girl and I look forward to later books in the series -- literature needs more tough women like Clover and Ebony!

Leigh Hutton has crafted a fantastic novel for horse lovers--the riding scenes are vivid and action-packed, Ebony's relationships with her horses is touching and is easy to relate to and the tragedy in her life is heartbreaking yet eventually triumphant. I spent more than one late night reading chapter after chapter to see what happened next and was always pleasantly surprised at the twists and turns that filled the book. Would recommend for any YA readers (some mild language, but not overwhelming or detracting from the plot). Seriously hope Ebony returns--I'll be rooting for her!

Leigh Hutton’s action scenes are tremendously written. She is quite the wizard with fast-paced dramatics. The action and adrenaline practically “jumps” off the page (no pun intended) and it’s obvious that Hutton was a competitive rider herself, as she accurately (and beautifully) describes the athletic technicalities of riding – for both equine and human characters. And, Ebony’s love and commitment to her horses is obvious. Although, I sometimes wondered what she enjoyed more – the horses or the sport itself??

While the storyline was alright, it was presented badly. There's no real flow to the story, it's very redundant, grammatically a mess, and unenjoyable to read. The excessive commas, unneeded colons, run-on, and fragment sentences are so distracting, I found it terribly hard to read. The ending closes in too late and condensed, mildly running the book further. Choose a book with a solid storyline, and good writing. I recommend Kit Ehrman for a similar theme.

After the horse died. I didn't care to find out if they found the real will or who/what was responsible for the death of the horse.

Fantastic! This is my favorite book ever- it showed me an insight into the competitive show jumping world. I love this book! 😍📒📓

This is totally for teenagers. TOOOOOO much silly romance. Wish I would have not bought this!!!!

Well worth reading.

This book should be at the top of your reading pile. You will not want to put it down! I was given the honour of reading this book pre-release and you will see when you read it that you will fall in love with the characters.This coming of age story of a horse jumping goddess will take you into the world of show jumping, deceit, betrayal, animal cruelty, Canadian iconography, love, friendship and horses. From the horse jumping goddess herself who was dealt a rough hand at life who overcomes obstacles, to her horrible Aunt who treats the world like her personal door mat (she reminds me of Cruella De Vil from 101 Dalmatians), to her best friends who help her along the way, to the return of the handsome Dallas Cash who was an enthralling character in Leigh Hutton's first novel in The Go Girls Chronicles, Rev Girl.Leigh Hutton has a way of making you fall in love with these wonderful characters, and gives you a story to remember. Her passion for horses really shows in this book..... and may even make you want to go hop on a horse yourself! This was a great read, and I recommend it.

JUMP GIRL leapt off the page and kept me hanging on from start to finish. I highly recommend this book to any horse or animal lover, from young (age 10-12 plus) right up to my age (I'm a Grandma!) Loads of action, adventure, drama and romance, with fabulous characters, both two legged and four. I love her Go Girls inspirational theme, especially for young girls. I can't wait to see what Leigh Hutton comes up with next!

I could really relate to Jump Girl being a former competitive show jumper myself. I loved the action and real life conflict - once I started reading, I couldn't put it down! This is an exciting inspirational book for girls and women and not just for those who are into horses. I love Leigh Hutton's books, I can't wait for her next one!
