A Baby Sister for Frances: A Classic Story About Feeling Left Out and Coming Home for Kids (Ages 4-8) (I Can Read Level 2)

We bought the series for my 3 year old granddaughter which is young but she loves these books.

I loved _A Bargain For Frances_ as a kid, so naturally I bought it for my son when he was born. After reading it several times, I decided to pick up the other books in the series, even though I wasn't familiar with them. Some of them are great, and some of them haven't aged well. _A Baby Sister for Frances_ is in the former category. Spoilers follow.You're going to be disappointed if you pick this up thinking that it's going to provide any sort of avenue for preparing a young child for the arrival of a new baby. The story is really mostly about Frances deciding to run away (to live under the dining room table). It's a cute story, and I suppose also an object lesson in not judging a book by its cover.

This was my favorite book when I was a child so I had to get it for my daughter, passing down a favorite past time of mine. She loved it and reads. The cover change from what I can remember but everything About the book brings back my childhood.

I bought this book for my 5 year old grandson who just had a baby sister. His baby sister had not been brought home from the hospital yet when I gave him the book. He likes the other Francis books, but seems mystified by this one. It may be that Francis is having some disappointments because of having a sense of being left out because of her baby sister - I think he cannot relate to that. I recommend giving this to a child who may already be experiencing some of the difficulties Francis is. It is a delightful book that I think my grandson may come to enjoy as much as he does the other Francis books - but later in his new brother-sister relationship.

This was a childhood favorite of mine, so I bought my daughter a copy. Love all the Frances books! Sweet stories, with lovely illustrations. They are great early reader books too!

Frances (the main character) is a typical 3 year old. She has a little bit of an attitude but always does the right thing in the end. Her parents are excellent models w/ positive ways to parent. They are patient with her and allow her to find her way to the moral (w/out being religious) and right ending on her own.This book is great for older siblings who either have or will soon have a younger sibling. They can relate to how Frances feels and you can relate to the parents' feelings also.

My daughter received this book as a big sister gift when my son was born. I was happy to see it still in print, 27 yrs later, so I could pay it forward to a new big sister.

I'm so glad I can read Frances to my own children. I love loved these books as a girland my children love them too. Frances' personality shines through in this tale, justas it does in all the other books of this series. A children's classic if you ask me."HRND and GKLS" lol!

This came from the U.S. I think, so it took absolutely AGES to arrive, however it is a lovely story like all the great Frances books. I bought it for a child who has just had a new sibling. My only criticism of this lively, loving, funny and heartwarming tale would be that the baby hardly gets a look in! Most of the action is aimed at bigging-up Frances who is feeling a bit narked off at her mother's world no longer revolving arond her alone. Being a bit taken up by caring for baby Gloria, mum can't always cater to all Frances's little preferences. I would have been far less sympathetic than her doting parents and said That's life girl, deal with it!! But they as always are so very sweet and caring, and deal with Frances' feeelings with tact, humour and love. A great book for any big sister who is feeling left out or usurped by a new baby.

I used to read the Frances books when I was a child and I am now buying them for my children, who love them as much as I did. Frances is a young badger with a great attitude and a penchant for singing her own wonderfully made up rhymes. In attitude she is a little like a fore runner of Lola of Charlie and Lola fame, although Frances is a more gentle character. In this story her mother and father have a new baby, Gloria, and Frances' nose gets put out of joint, so she decides to run away. The way her mother and father deal with the situation is wonderfully funny and kind, and you know that these books were written very much with the parents who have to read them as much as the children who listen in mind. I wish all these books were being re-released, as this is one of the few that are easily available. A must have for every small child's bookcase.

Russell Hoban understands how it feels to be usurped by a new baby in the family, and this book is wonderfully helpful to the older child and parent in including the newcomer but making sure that the older child is still loved and is an example to the new baby.

I bought these for my grandchildren, who are still pre-schoolers, to help instill in them a love of books.

My 10 year old granddaughter still loves to hear the Frances stories and I wanted to this so we'd have all of them.
