Great for their purpose
As some of the other reviewers mentioned, these are not meant to fully chill your drink. If you want to do so, I suggest storing the bottle in the refrigerator or just use ice cubes and deal with the dilution. Chances are however, if you are after a super cold drink, you don't care about dilution, as both harm the flavors of the beverage, so this product is not for you in the first place. This product is meant to put a slight chill on whiskey to take the edge off, but not so cold as to ruin the flavor, and without diluting it with melting ice. For that purpose, they do their job perfectly. Combined with a proper glass, this product has thoroughly increased my enjoyment of scotch whiskey and bourbon.

Keep your liquor cold - without messing with the flavors or the strength
I got these as a gift for my Law School BFF shortly before graduation. He's into bourbon and he likes to drink it neat. But he also likes it cold. Obviously, if you add ice to whisky, it dilutes it and messes with the flavors and the strength of it. That's where these whisky stones come in! You keep them in a bag in your freezer, just as if they were ice cubes, and you pour yourself a double and drop in 2-3 of these. They keep the drink cold without messing with the flavors. When you're done, you rinse them off and stick them back in the freezer. They're a great gift for any lover of whisky (or wine!) who doesn't want to add ice and mess with the flavors of the beverage.

These stones really keep their cool for a long time!
I am really impressed with these whisky stones. I've used them for whisky, with great success, but I also use them for water, soda, and juice. I had a glass of soda, which I left on the counter after drinking the soda. I came back to the glass the next day, and the stones were still cold! I'd recommend them for anyone seeking to cool down a drink with out watering it down, but I also think these are great to have on hand in lieu of regular ice! We don't have an automatic ice maker, so it is nice to have a few on hand when we have to wait for the freshly-made ice to fully freeze. Great product!

These whiskey stones rock
These stones are good price, made of nice quality stone, and work well to cool a small drink to below room temperature for a limited period of time. These will not chill your drink to icy coldness, nor keep your drink cool for hours, nor work well on pint-glass sized volumes. If you're looking for a bigger chill, look elsewhere for stainless steel cubes or an ice cube tray that makes novelty shapes.

These can't work due to physics
I really dont know why I bought these. It was dumb. I knew it was dumb, but I did it anyway. Sigh. It is a cute idea to have whiskey "on the rocks", but in practice, frozen rocks simply cant cool a drink the way ice can. The reason has to do with "enthalpy of fusion." [There is a useful discussion on Wikipedia for those that are interested.] Basically, it takes far more energy for a substance to change state (e.g. melt from a solid to a liquid, or freeze from a liquid into a solid) than it takes to change the temperature of a substance without changing its state. To borrow Wikipedia's example, to raise the temperature of one kilogram (about 1 liter) of liquid water by 20°C, from 10°C to 30°C (50°F to 86°F) requires 83.6 kJ (kilojoules) of energy. However, to melt ice and raise the resulting water temperature by 20°C requires extra energy. To heat ice from 0°C to 20°C (32°F to 68°F) requires 333.55 kJ for 1 kg of ice to melt PLUS 83.6 kJ for the 1kg of water to go up 20°C; a total of 417.15 kJ of energy. So, since ice melts in a drink, it removes much more energy (heat) from the liquid than a comparable amount of a substance that does not melt (in this case, rock.) In a real world case, I put the stones in the freezer for 24 hours. I then placed three of them in a heavy crystal glass with a shot of whisky at 72 degrees. The drink quickly decreased in temperature to 60 degrees. There the temperature decrease stopped. To my taste 60 degrees is still too warm. By contrast, ice cubes brought a fresh 72 degree shot of whisky down to 40°F in the same time period. One more thing - the box says that the stones are odorless and tasteless. However, when they arrive they are covered with stone dust. It took a tremendous amount of washing to reduce the soapstone smell to an acceptable level. I never managed to get them to be odorless. So, why did I buy them? I was taken in by the con. I wasn't thinking. I thought it was a "cute" idea. Doh!

Novelty at Best
I bought these for my father as a Christmas present but of course I had to help him test them out. We had them in the freezer for at least double the recommended 4 hours before we used them, yet they still didn't seem to chill a drink very well. After my first drink I went back to just using ice. Sure, ice watered down the whiskey a little, but it stayed cooler way longer. Though the stones didn't keep the drink cold for very long, they would still be a very nice conversation piece should you have guests over for some drinks. They did not add any taste whatsoever to the drink, as advertised, which is what someone unfamiliar with the product would assume. I would say that if you want to keep your drink chilled, stick with ice. But if you want to entertain some guests and wow them with something a little different, these are very nice.

Scotch Rocks, please.
You will often hear someone ordering their favorite drink prepared in their favorite way: "Scotch Rocks, please." It means three fingers of scotch, usually a single-malt, over a few ice cubes. Now you can have that same drink without diluting the flavor of the whisky with melting ice. The answer is Teraform Whisky Stones. They are smooth polished, like river rocks, stones which you keep in the freezer until 4:00. Then you take them from the freezer and place them in the bottom of your favorite glass. The stones cool your whisky without bruising it with melted water. Scotch drinkers worldwide have voted to approve the practice using other spirits, but only in the certainty that the user will soon graduate to single-malt scotch. They make great gifts for your whisky lover too!

Works well but manage your expectations
First off these stones are not ice cubes! They feel cold in your hand and in the glass but the whiskey will not feel cold on your tongue. Instead, they cut the "burn" you get from drinking warm whiskey. Surprisingly (to me, at least) this really does bring out a lot of flavors that you may not have tasted before. I have used these with both Maker's 46 and Jim Beam Devil's Cut and they go well with both. Something I noticed is that I tend to swirl the whiskey in the glass prior to each sip - don't do this! The last few sips will be somewhat "chalky" because the stones will tap against each other and the glass and because they are so soft, they grind a bit and leave behind a powder. No flavor differences, just slight texture. I highly recommend these if you or someone you know even occasionally drinks whiskey neat, and likes fun things to try every now and then.

Ca fait le job...
Orgininales ces pierres font leur job. Un whisky frais mais pas glacé, et pas dénaturé par l'eau d'un glaçon fondu...

Really cool and effective
This product is really use full if you want to drink your Scotch cool without adding some water in it. By cons, If you want to use it for a full filled glass of wathever what, it won't be super effective.
