Will the "Take and Play" versions of the engines work with this track?

While they will technically "work," the Take and Play engines are much smaller than the Trackmaster engines. I wouldn't buy this set intending on using Take and Play engines with it.

What age is this for?

I am not sure what age recommendation was on the box. We bought it for our 3 year old son and he loves it. You need to put it together for your child but my son likes to build his own simple tracks with it. I see older kids playing with it as well. My husband really enjoys it as well. I will not recommend this train for kids less then 3. Overall we really love it! My husband bought some extra tracks and another train, connected them together. Lots of fun!

Can i connect Thomas the train Sodor with this toy set?

Only if the Thomas the Train Sodor has the Tan track. If it's the dark Gray track then No.

how many pieces in this set?

Between 30-40 pieces are included. Set doesn't have real small pieces either.
