I need to tape my mouth shut while sleeping with nasal cpap. will this hold when i gape mouth open uncontrollably during sleep? oily skin.

Get a chin strap from a medical supply company (where you get your other CPAP supplies) - or even on-line some place. There are several kinds. I use one myself with my CPAP. I do not think it wise to tape your mouth shut while you are sleeping. What happens if your nasal pillows and CPAP gear misfunctions - you would not be able to breath and you would be asleep. Not a good mix. I don't think that any tape would work with oily skin. You can Google "CPAP chin strap) and find many different types to choose from.

I want something that sticks well but won't tear at my skin during removal. How gentle is this?

Used it on my son.. it was pretty gentle. Better than most. You just have to pull it off slowly.

Is this useful for repairing a tear in the silk lining of a lamp? My concern is heat-resistance.

This is medical tape, it would not stick to silk material very well or for very long. Any amount of heat from your lamp would make it come off the lamp shade in short order.
