Charming, cute and different
I didn't know what to expect, but I really enjoyed it. The writing style is simple, charming and refreshing. It was nice to be surrounded by so many warm, friendly characters - a real family of inclusivity and I did like the lead character. She seems genuine and I wanted to know what was coming next. Well done!

Vampires ghost witches werewolves elves trolls medusa
I wanted something different to read, this books has everything and more. There are a lot of twist and mysterious happenings that keep you on the tip of your sit. From beginning to end you won't be able to guess the next step. My kind of book. You will absolutely enjoy reading this book. The end only made me want for more. Maybe to see any changes to Peter or kids for Val & Suzy. Maybe a Christmas visit. It was truly a great read. Thank you Lori Woods well written and a joy to read.

Great story, awful editing
The story was good and fast paced, especially for a cozy mystery. The editing was just the worst I have seen in years. There are entire chapters where the character Sprout is misidentified as "Stout." It is very offputting, but a good story with likable characters is a thing of beauty so i just rolled my eyes at editing hiccups and plugged through. It is a sweet, wholesome series I'd recommend, especially to young readers. Some of the moral and ethical supernatural parallels to current issues were a tad heavy handed but people certainly need to learn acceptance and inclusion, so cheers on those themes! I will be following Ms. Woods from now on!

Despite the incredible typos....
I'm giving this series 5 stars despite the poor proofreading (spell and grammar checker, anyone??) because the stories are so strong, and while she is just a tad heavy-handed with the fifth novel's anti-bigotry message, I thought it was extremely well-thought-out, with likeable (and hateable - gotta have both) characters and story development. I especially loved Suzy's black cat, Snowball (!!!) and just how the story got Snowball into the car with Suzy on the first day, when she crossed into the other world. The story started out average-paced - which seemed slow, compared to many of the excellent kindle books I'd been reading just before). Then once Suzy was in Nightshade (the town she comes through into), things began to pick up.She used foreshadowing and wondering about things had had and had neglected to happen in the past in an exceptionally skillful way, keeping me guessing, but never quite figuring things out. Then she ploughed a couple of real, hum-dinger surprises into the later books taht had not even been hinted at - but made complete sense as they were explained.I don't want to give away too much of the story line, so I'll just say this turned out to be the spent buck I've paid all year! Worth it at many times the price.

Easy, Fun Read
This was a fun read. The characters grow through the series. There are a couple of editing errors in the last book (the cat is black until the last book, and another character is an elf in one book then a witch in the last). Despite these discrepancies, the series ending is a good one.

Wonderful stories
I loved the story line of this wonderful collection... However, if you hate grammar mistakes, it might be difficult to get into... Also, there are quite a few times that I'm sure the author lost track if her own story (in the last book, all of a sudden the black cat is white and a couple of character names change... Sprout becomes stout...) Even still i loved the storyline!!!
