Take your kids to WESTERN Europe...
I bought this book after several friends raved over it and in my opinion it did not live up to the hype at all. If you have never been to Europe and you are now going with kids, it might be a good read. If you are a traveller and don't mind paying for over 175 pages of information that you probably already know just to get to the recommendations, you'll probably enjoy the book. My advice? Get it from your library or borrow it from the friends who raved about it before you purchase it. I'm guessing you'll either love it or feel as though your money is better spent on a more in depth travel guide.First of all, as an experienced traveller, I thought too much of the book was turned over to the planning of a European vacation. Perhaps for an inexperienced traveller these first 4 chapters would hold more value. There were some gems in those first 178 pages ( supermarket info, money savers, some phrases to know) but I found the planning portion to be excessive!Section two of the book --"The totally biased guide of what to see and do" (the section I refer to as, "why I bought the book") -- offers several great ideas. I love the fact that the authors state outright that this is just their advice; I wish I'd known in advance that their advice was based on having older school aged children. If you are looking for things in western europe that appeal to preteens and teens you are bound to find several sage pieces of advice herein. If your children are younger than 10, this book will probably not offer you as much information as you had hoped! My biggest disappointment was the complete lack of information for any areas of Eastern Europe. Again, I realize that the book was largely based on the author's experiences and that it is self-admitedly "biased" but this is an 8th edition published years after the fall of the iron curtain. Eastern Europe is wide open and tourism is thriving. Parents need totally biased advice on how to navigate this part of Europe too -- especially since the language barriers will cause us bigger issues here. Cynthia Harriman, its time to pack your bags and start writing for the next edition. Better yet, I'll go and take copious notes...call me when you need the info!

Gives you a lot to think about when planning your Extended Family Trip to Europe
This book is well organized and quite thorough and designed for people who plan on taking the family to Europe for a semester or the whole summer. There are lots of good references and links on the Kindle version. The information is solid and using the planning methodology will work in future years. This book will hold its own over time, but periodic updates (currently on the 8th edition) make it even better.

It had some good ideas but for someone who has traveled for long periods of time before, it was kind of common sense. But I would recommend it for someone who had never gone to Europe before. Well organized and clear.

Just OK
This guide is not as good as I had hoped. It provides a lot of general information. I was hoping for a "must see in Europe with kids" list. However, I did take away one great idea from the book, which is, let each member of the family (including the little ones) take turns picking what you do and where you eat on vacation. Our family has now adopted this strategy.

Better Than Expected
This book has great information for families travelling to Europe. The content is very focused and doesn't repeat information found in other general guidebooks. Want to know how to sleep a family of 4 or more, or how to travel depending on age and number of children in your group? Look no further.

great resource
This book is a treasure chest full of good advice and information. I'm not leaving for a few months yet and educating myself well in advance with resources like this will really help make the trip the best possible one it can be

Five Stars
Great book with good insight. Glad I bought it for the Paris tips alone.
