Good for learning, or those on a budget. Don't expect un-godly edges
This is by no means a cheap alternative to more expensive stones. There. I said it.However, this is a great option for someone who wants to get a nice sharp edge on their knives or tools and hell, it's a little small, but even swords. Or to learn how to, or if they want to persue a greater level of, stone sharpen.Let's run through a Q&A with tips. The grits that are on this stone are 1000 and 6000. Is that accurate? Probably not. They are cheap stones from unknown factories. I've seen these blue/white stones listed all over the internet at different grits.Does that matter all that much? Not really. You can sharpen a knife with a ceramic coffee mug if you really want to.Can you use it to learn the basics of wetstone sharpening? Absolutely. Can you get a nice edge that will cut what you need? Yes you can. It just takes patience and practice.(Tip) Don't start with your good knives. Try sharpening a beater knife first. You can pick up trash knives at any second hand store for a couple dollars. Is the strop real leather? maybe.Does it matter? No. Because you put a polishing compound on the strop anyways. (Tip) You can make a strop by gluing some old blue jeans tightly to a piece of flat scrap wood if you want to try out different polishing compounds. Don't mix different compounds together.Does the compound work? Yes it does. Which actually surprised me. Most cheap kits have garbage compound. And they gave a decent amount as well. Is it the best? No. But it's by far not the worst. Can you get a mirror polish on your edge? Maybe with a lot of effort. If you want mirror polish make or buy a cheap strop. (Explained above) and buy some high polish compound. Tah-dah!Do you need a mirror polish to cut meat, vegitables, cardboard boxes, plastic straps, wood, etc? NoAs a "knife guy or girl" is it satisfying to have a full mirror polish on your blades? Yeah. But it's like putting tire shine on the tires of your car. You can still drive without it.Is this stone good for straight rasors? Easy answer is no. I've easily gotten my knives sharp enough to take hair off my arm. So you can definitely get to "shaving sharp" but I don't think with the stuff in the kit, that you are going to get "comfortable shaving sharp." Maybe with some better strop compound (not to say this is bad by any means) and a decent amount of work.Is it a messy process? Yes. Everything is going to get wet and you are going to have fine metal partical/stone partical slurry on your hands and whatever surface you are working on.(Tip) put down the stone holder on your work surface and put your least favorite towel over it and wedge the stone into the holder through the towel. There's a little bit of a gap so you can press a towel between them. Don't wash that towel with your cloths. Let it air dry it'll be fine. Because it's just going to get dirty the next time you use it.Are the bases of the stone holder and strop block non slip? No, they are slippery. The stone holder is going to slip on a smooth countertop as soon as it gets wet.(Tip) go to the Amazon search bar and type "DEDC Car Roof Cargo Carrier Protective Mat" scroll past the sponsored products and you'll find a roll of what looks like black checkered bubble wrap. It's like $10. Not trying to sell you more stuff I just had a roll of it and it made this work so much better. Just cut it to size. It also makes for great drink coasters. What's the black plastic thing? It's an edge angle guide. It's garbage. It does have little white ceramic rods in it so if you can find another use for them be my guest. Otherwise, might as well just throw it away.Is it worth the $40 (or $50 if you buy the car mat)? I'd say so. Considering that you'll easily pay that for a low grit, higher end stone that doesn't come with anything else. Again. This is not an alternative to high end stones. Shapton stones are great. But I can't afford to spend that kind of money on a small hobby. If you've got the money then go for it. But for those on a tight budget or those looking to dip their toes into the world of stone sharpening this is a pretty solid place to start.Last two pictures are the non slip mat I suggested and the technique I mentioned with the towel between the stone and the holder.Enjoy.

Sits next to my father's old whetstone.
Not exactly like the whetstones my dad used to use, he used motor oil on the stone instead of water, but sharpens blades just as good. Not too impressed with the green honing compound nor the strop, not even sure how much compound to use 🤔🤷♂️🤦♂️. The blade angle tool took some getting used to as every blade has a different angle at the grind, guess it just depends on how close you want to get to the original grind or if possible, better. Overall good product, love tbe bamboo base.

Best set of stones I have ever purchased
These seem to be a really good set of stones. I honed my straight razors with them in a very short amount of time. The results were amazing. I am very pleased with them! I don’t understand the prompts of “sheerness” and “thickness” as they would apply with this product which is by I omitted those descriptions.🤔 Follow the wetting instructions that come with them. Great product, I would buy again without hesitation.

Easy to use
I used this for the first time today. I have had a whetstone in the past I have used and a honing blade for daily use. This set is nice because it includes a non skid base and the leather strop, also polishing compound and the 45 degree guide.I sharpens well, the extra base keeps your stone from moving around, and this was my first time using leather which has the same basic principles as the whetstone. The instructions were easy to follow and the packaging was nice. So, if you were looking at this for a gift it wouldn't look cheap when unwrapped.

A+
Maybe I'm just used to cheap Chinese garbage always looking good in pictures but showing up like a McDonald's Burger in an afternoon rush... But this is a nice set. It exceeded my expectations on both quality and packaging presentation. Not very often you get what you pay for these days but I can safely say you get what you pay for. As far as the quality of the stones, compound and leather themselves I'm not qualified to judge. They sure do look like their of good quality though. Time will tell.

Strop & compound: not good
I liked the stones which do a good job of cleaning, sharpening and polishing our knives. The leather strop as well as the polishing compound are practically useless. The strop was sloppily attached to the wood base and started to peel. However, the strop can be used but use without the compound. The green compound was/is as hard as a brick. It did not transfer to the strop and what ended up on the strop looked like shavings from a crayon.I see 2 ratings for this kit: 3-stars for the wet stones and 1-star for the strop and compound.

Outstanding Value
Outstanding value pack that includes a leather strop. I spent some time watching YouTube sharpening videos and then tried several techniques. Took a few tries to understand angles. But once I did, I've never had knives this sharp. The leather strop, I used a heat gun to spread the compound, knives now can split hairs.Order came next day before I woke up. Made me happy to see it that quick.

sharp knives are good
I love wet sharpening, However immediately upon soaking the stones for the first time the glue between them disolved and they came apart. Not a problem and actually makes things a bit nicer to have them separated.
