CAN RIO SAVE HIS SISTER ?
When Rio(the kid) Cutler (Jake Schur) and his sister Sarah (Leila George) go on the run after escaping their brutal father who Sarah is forced in truth to kill, the two happen upon a small shack which they use as shelter, turns out Billy the Kid (Dane Dehaan) and his gang use the shack to hide from their pursuers led by Pat Garrett (Ethan Hawke)Well, Rio starts to build a bond with the infamous outlaw prior to the shootout that follows while he and his sister are inside with the gang.Pat Garrett will take Billy back to Lincoln stopping off in a town to rest-up along the way which is where Rio and Sarah's father's evil brother Grant (Chris Pratt) catches up with them and takes Rio's sister away.Rio will try and turn to the captured Billy for help to get his sister back.Events will prevent that happening, will Pat help ?......will Rio follow the wrong path after his encounters with Billy ?The story though, the Rio and Sarah inclusion is fictional does fringe upon events that lead to Pat Garrett killing Billy the Kid.The film does have its moments, however, not the fastest moving western adventure sadly......worth a glance though I'd say catch it on a movie channel rather than buy.For me, it's a 7/10.

The Kid
The Kid (2019)Vincent D’Onofrio’s directorial debut doesn’t disappoint. The film follows a brother and sister (Jake Schur & Leila George) whilst on the run from their Uncle (Chris Pratt) the witness Billy The Kid’s (Dane Dehaan) encounter with Pat Garrett (Ethan Hawke). The acting here from everyone is excellent. There is some heavy and dark material here at times, especially Schur’s character and it’s crazy to think that this is his first ever on screen performance. Dehaan steals every scene he’s in as Billy The Kid, his cocky banter and intimidating persona are a blast to watch, Hawke is as cool as ever he’s done this many times before and still delivers and lastly was good to see Chris Pratt in a villain role, and he is very menacing and threatening here and gives a top performance. The characters are all interesting and the story moves a long at a good pace, the locations are lit well and the cinematography is impressive. There are also some brutal and bloody gunfights which were intense and the sound and practical effects were put to good use. I also liked the theme score. The film has a run time of 1hr 40 mins, it does drag around the middle section a bit and the pacing and editing could’ve been a bit better, due to some overlong takes and cuts at times, this also is the case with some of the dialogue and tone at points, and it obviously follows a lot of the familiar Western trappings which you would've seen before. However this a very underrated and very good movie that has some brilliant performances and I'm looking forward to see what D'Onofrio brings to the table in the future with his directing career.

Embellishing a legend
I was drawn to this film for a number of reasons. First, it was a return of film-making to a famous genre that has beenvictim of changing times and tastes but always merited a come-back in capable hands. In this case, the hands belongto respected actor Vincent D'Onofrio turned director who clearly has a regard for the genre and it shows. An intriguing story about a young lad and his sister (played the director's own daughter) on the run after killing of their brutal father as he murdered their mother - pursued by the latter's equally vengeful vicious brother. They takeshelter only to find it's a hideput used by outlaw Billy the Kid (real name William Bonney) and his gang. The arrivalof Sheriff Pat Garrett and his posse in pursuit see a shoot-out with Billy and his gang captured and the two scaredyoungsters having to adapt to awkward circumstances while they try to make their way to safety. The acting by all isfine, the production values and photography excellent and the overall result worth adding to any Western fan'sDVD collection. A pleasant surprise - well done all concerned, but especially Mr D'Onofrio and his producers formaking a film that returns the viewer to the enjoyment of good versus evil - and righteous retribution (not too fashionable nowadays!) in a tale that manages to mix fact and fiction in a neglected but dependable genre.

Disappointing at best.
A generous 2stars.For a film with such talent as Ethan hawke and Chris Pratt in it , it's a bit of a let down as It seems to me like the producers (Schur podutions) are trying too hard to make Jake Schur a film star rather than trying to entertain the audience. Unfortunately he isn't in the same league as his co stars and it shows in this movie. In my opinion they should have spent the production money on acting lessons for Jake before throwing him in at the deep end with such talented actor's.

Wild West
I am a sucker for westerns and purchase a fair number in the course of a year, much to the dismay of my wife. I can be found, often, watching black and white westerns over my breakfast times. This one has a great cast and obviously the story line is good too. Poetic licence can and does get used in telling the stories - fair enough. They are still great entertainment. This is no exception and can be recommend.

Could have been a classic...
First of all I loved the casting for Billy the Kid, and for Pat Garrett, and the film should have just focused on them instead of a brother and sister who both couldn't act to save their lives. Honestly the acting of Jake Schur and whoever played his sister was pure cringe in places... and Chris Pratts fake beard was so obvious. It is sad, an opportunity lost imho. Great cinematography, great acting by Dane DeHaan and Ethan Hawke with a few great scenes, but overall a big let down.
