The Soul of St. Andrews: The Life of Old Tom Morris

I have had a passing knowledge of Old Tom, and Young Tommy for some time. Then I watched the movie Tommy's Honour, and I yearned to learn more of Old Tom. This book, while very detailed on the golfing abilities of many, really didn't delve into the life of the man like I was hoping for. I wanted to hear about what drew Tom into golf, what he was like growing up, how he came to design golf courses-things like that. But, I did enjoy the read, and hope to find more about Old Tom.

An interesting read, however, there is simply too much detail in some of the tournament descriptions. I haven't finished the book yet and I would have liked a little more detail about the personal life of Old Tom Morris.

very interesting reading

when i read the reviews before i bought the book i looked forward to reading it. right from the start i knew i was'nt going to enjoy it,the old scots dialect put me off. there was'nt enough about old tom and there was too many statistics.
