Great little unit for small spaces
Quick update - It was in the upper 90s here all weekend. I turned the A/C unit on about an hour before bed every night and it would cool from close to 80 to mid-70s in an hour when set on "high cool" and 6 out of 7. That made it comfortable to fall asleep. I then turned it to "low cool" and went right to sleep - no issue with the sound. The first night, I was actually chilly when I woke up in the middle of the night so I changed it to 5 out of 7 for the temp setting. That seemed to be perfect. It stayed comfortable all night. To reiterate - this is for a single, small room. The 2 rooms we put these in are 150 - 200 s.f. each. We keep the doors closed when they're running. If that's what you're looking for, you'll probably be very happy! But if you want to cool a bigger space, buy a bigger and more expensive A/C. See below for more detailed initial review: I bought 2 of these little A/C units for the upstairs bedrooms in my house. I live in the south and when it is in the 90s for several weeks at a time, the upstairs of my house stays hot even at night. I got these to make the bedrooms for comfortable for sleeping. They are small units, only suitable for a single room. The nice thing is that a single person can easily carry them from the porch to wherever you want to install them. They are not super heavy. I got mine upstairs just fine. The installation is also very simple. You don't need anything extra - the package comes with the top bracket and the side panels. If you want to buy a support bracket, you could but it is not a heavy unit so not necessary. Installation took me an hour in total. That included a quick trip to the hardware store for an extra piece of wood to put on my window frame. If you have a storm window frame on the outside that is a bit higher than the inside window sill, you'll need a piece of wood. This is explained in the instruction manual. Once we got that, it was quick work to drill a few holes and put it up. The air conditioner feels very secure and does not wobble. It also does come with weather stripping if you want to get all fancy, but we'll just keep the bedroom doors closed so I didn't get too careful. The unit is remarkably quiet! The extra piece of wood we added to the window sill probably helped. But it sounds like something I can sleep through no problem. It sounds like white noise - kind of like a hotel air conditioner but it is a constant hum so it won't bother most people. It does not rattle. But keep in mind, this is not a $500 air conditioner and it does make noise! It is just soothing noise because it is making the air cool and happy. Overall, I recommend this air conditioner if you have a single room that you want to cool down, don't mind a humming white noice sound, and also don't want to spend a lot of money.

So far so good
Works as expected for my small room. It drops my humidity and can keep things pretty chilly without even hitting max settings.

FANTASTIC little ac unit!
During this years heat wave, my wife and I bought this to keep our second story bedroom cool. The room that its cooling is about what the manufacturer rates it for, about 150-200 sq ft. This ac unit keeps it cold, easily! Not cool, cold. Its built solid, but not heavy, so moving it and set up is a super easy task. Its not oppressively loud, its not quiet by any means but we sleep through it just fine. Last week, we had a hot humid day with a heat index of 104 degrees, and using an indoor thermometer, this unit set on low kept the bedroom at 64 degrees no problem. On high, I have no doubt we would have been sub-60 degrees easily. Great value, couldn't be happier with this little ac unit!

Very Good, Almost Terrific
This is a relatively inexpensive, quite light, very low-power window A/C that absolutely gets the job done for a small room. We're using it to cool an under-insulated 100 sq ft, and it has no problem. On it's Low setting, it'll cool the room from Too Hot to Colder Than I Intended in half an hour. It's so light that we installed it in an upper sash instead of the lower sash, and it's no problem. Be aware this is an inexpensive unit, without a calibrated thermostat (you set warmer or cooler, like with a typical fridge, but you can't set a target temperature in degrees) or a remote. Doesn't bother us, but don't be surprised. However, a couple of caveats: First, the installation instructions aren't good. To be fair, I've never seen a window A/C that came with good installation instructions, which is strange because it's not complicated. The trick is to be aware that the side panels should be vertical, with the lip around the edges on the inside of the window and frame. If you have a window anything close to standard, when the side panels are aligned correctly, the A/C is in the right position and tilted at the right angle. You want the foam between where the A/C meets the window and windowsill, to fill in the gaps. That covers the hard part of putting it in correctly. Second, A/Cs like this have a layer of styrofoam dividing the inside from the outside, except for the drainage hole and where tubing goes through. The foam is often in two pieces that meet in the middle. If the foam isn't thick enough or doesn't seal tightly where the pieces meet, you'll get a lot of exterior sound coming in -- and a lot of bugs. This A/C needs thicker foam and a tighter seal. It's not bad, but another 50 cents of styrofoam would vastly improve it. When it's off, it may allow noticeable amounts of hot air in, and you will get noise and may get some bugs. Because the split in the foam is inside, you can't just tape it up yourself. This isn't a huge problem -- I've seen some that are basically bug freeways -- but overall this unit has a nice fit and finish, and it's a shame this one important detail isn't up to the level of the rest.

Cools well.
Pakaged well. There were a few places in the back of the unit where the foils were bent, but that wasn't from shipping because there was space between the back of the unit and the box. Cools well. I think they are stretching the meaning of "quiet operation," bit it isn't awful. In front where the directional vents are, they won't stay in place; if you move them where you want they work their way back to a central place, so we had to wedge a paper towel piece in the dial so it stays where we put it. Otherwise a good unit.

Great product from a reliable brand
I have been using the Frigidaire FFRA051WAE air conditioner for a few weeks now. So far I would say it is a good air conditioner at a great price. It is much smaller and lighter than my previous air conditioner but still very powerful. This specific model weighs 40lbs. I use this AC unit to cool a small bedroom and the 5000 BTUs is plenty. My room gets extremely cold in an hour running on the High Cool 7 setting. Helpful tip - if you want your room to stay cold at night and the overnight temperature is going to dip into the 50s, run the AC for 1-2 hours on the High Cool setting before the temperature drops below 60 degrees, then shut it off for the night. If you install some cheap insulation foam on your windows and doors your room will stay cool much longer. Never run a window AC when the temperature outside is below 60 degrees because it can freeze up the unit. I ran my previous air conditioner everyday in the summer and never knew why it kept shutting off on its own on cold nights. I thought there was a short in it. There must have been an internal chip failsafe that kept my old air conditioner from destroying itself... this is why it still works to this day. This Frigidaire air conditioner was relatively easy to install right out of the box and fit securely in my window. The only tool I needed was a philips screwdriver. A handy person could probably install this AC unit by themself in about 10 minutes. Two notable mentions from the installation manual... the 5/16" pitch is built in to the design of the AC unit so no need to worry about doing it yourself. Pitch is the backward tilt which causes water to exit the back of the machine and drain to the outside. In step 1 on page 2 they mention placing the unit on the floor to install the side panels but what they don't specify is that you must place the unit on its back to do so. To get the accordion panels in place lay the air conditioner on its back with buttons face up and slide each panel through the 4 holes on each side. You'll know when you've done it correctly. I almost didn't buy this air conditioner due to the negative reviews about it not cooling and/or breaking right away. Am starting to think that people give too much weight to negative product reviews these days. Electronics are generally tested before sale and rarely fail right out of the box. Paying extra on an extended warranty is betting on your electronic to fail which is almost always a losing venture. It's also worth noting that most people never leave positive reviews on any items they buy, they only leave a review if something is wrong with it. This behavior highly skews product reviews in a negative way. My main complaint regarding this Frigidaire air conditioner is that there is no built in timer. But that would likely have raised the price closer to $300. My old air conditioner had a timer but was very heavy and much harder to install. There are timers online you can buy that should work with air conditioners. But as mentioned previously if you insulate your room properly you can probably get by running this AC unit for just an hour or two most nights. My only other complaint is a minor one. I leave my air conditioner plugged in and turn the unit on and off on a daily basis. I would much rather have push buttons on an air conditioner than a knob that you turn that could eventually break off. Final note: When I first got this Frigidaire air conditioner it did not produce super cold air immediately right out of the box. I believe it took a few hours. This is something to keep in mind. Just because an air conditioner doesn't get super cold instantly doesn't mean it's broken.

Perfect for a Small Room.
Purchased two of these as they were on sale and so far they've been working great. Both my mother and I are enjoying cold air in the middle of this heatwave. -They are light-ish. Not that difficult to manage but still probably want to have someone else give a hand with placement. -The cord is really long and that actually came in handy. -The output is really good. <Though I still have a tower fan there to help distribute the air further/faster but have actually been a little too cold a few nights. -It is quiet, and I thought it was broken at first lol. -Will restart if power goes out. <Glad it does because this is kinda a deal breaker for me. I had an AC that needed to be turned back on after every power outage. That thing might as well have been a paperweight for the amount of good it did me. Cons: -This is a general issue with any AC and that being the radiator is easily warped. Nothing you can do other than show extra precaution, but that's a design issue that nearly every window unit has. -I don't consider it a "Con" but this unit does not come with a remote or selectable temperatures. It has high cold or low cold (and fan only high/low) but no way to select a specific temperature. Note: -An important notice is that (with most any cooling system) you NEED to let the AC sit upright for at least an hour before turning on. The coolants have to settle for it to function correctly and it may not work properly if you don't give it time to do so.

Great little unit after some tweaking
I had a central unit scare in the summer peak (luckily just a blown fuse that I was able to locate in the air handler), and pulled the trigger on two of these units, a 10K BTU and a 5K BTU. I was extremely pleased with the 10K unit. It can get a little loud when it calls for max cool because it blows some serious air. The 5K unit, I was not pleased so much. To make a long story short, it wouldn't adequately cool my bedroom even on max cool. It probably would have, but it would short cycle (turn on, then off rapidly). Often times the short cycle was so quick it would strain to restart the compressor and sometimes give up starting it and kick back to fan. I pulled the front cover and and found the thermostat sensor wire in contact with the evaporator coil. I carefully pulled the wire off the coil, and that cured all the issues. That wire behind the filer should be in front of, but not touching the coil. If it is in contact with the coil it will make the unit think the room is colder than it really is when the compressor is on calling for it to turn it off. The wire will then quickly reach room temperature causing it to turn the compressor back on, and repeat. It will never cool the room to the thermostat's actual setting. So out of the box I was really disappointed, but once this minor factory issue was resolved it turned out to be a pretty decent little unit. It no longer short cycles, and is able to adequately cool my bedroom without the need to set it to max cool. The gurgling noise it makes as the compressor kicks in is a little annoying, but at this price point I don't expect whisper quiet operation. The 10K unit I have doesn't make the gurgling sound that I can tell, but it moves so much more air it may just not be noticeable. Overall, the for price point I am satisfied with my purchase.

Works great so far, haven't owned it for very long
I've owned this unit for less than a year, but it worked great for my single-room studio during the summer. It seems like it moves a lot of liquid around internally. We installed the unit in such a way that it was slightly tilted towards the outdoors which allowed any excess water to escape outside rather than inside. It uses a considerable amount of power, however in my case I found it highly effective to let the A/C run for about 20 mins and then simply switch it off. It felt like my room would stay cool for hours after letting it run for just a short amount of time.

Works great! Cools very well. Downside is noisy.
Perfect for cooling my 20 sq meter bedroom. I never have to crank the cooling to high cooling. Low cooling can maintain 24 C when outside is 30 C. The only downside is the noise. I cant sleep with it on at night. Can't complain too much cause price is good and installation is dead simple.

decent
as expected and described, this unit cools off a single bedroom nicely. mine and my partner's bedroom is medium to large sized and this unit keeps it comfortably cool even during heat waves. i will note that this unit is very low TBU meaning it's only meant to cool off one room, not your entire living space. some other reviews here mention folks using this to cool off their whole home, and i'm happy that seems to work for them, but not only is that not what this product is advertised for, but i find it doesn't do that for us (we tried leaving the bedroom door open and directing the air through the house using a large fan). it's fine that our unit doesn't do that because we didn't wholly expect it to. if it does cool off the rest of the house at all, it's very minimally and not to a degree that will relieve you during a heat wave. as for our bedroom, it doesn't turn it into a refrigerator like some high TBU units will, but it does exactly what we need it to do all for a decent price.

Wonderful little air conditioner.
Just simply a wonderful little air conditioner. It blows cold and is very quiet. The controls are the most simplistic which is just great. It's like a 1980 Chevy Chevette. Simple, reliable, and does the job. Highest rating.
