i know the description states clearly these are not designed for threaded bars, but i bought them anyway with fingers crossed. unfortunately, they really are too big for the threaded standard bar. what i did though is simply attach a somewhat thick zip tie through each one. now it works because the diameter of the clip is slightly smaller due to the zip tie. it looks a bit funky and sometimes i have to adjust the zip tie around so the clip will slide over the threads more easily, but once i've released the tension on the clip it holds my weights in place just fine. it's certainly not perfect, but it sure beats spending 2 or more minutes spinning those stupid spin lock collars every time i want to switch out my weights!! i know this is not an ideal fix, but i thought i would share how i rigged mine up to work for me in case it helps give you an idea of how to also make it work for you! i personally just absolutely refuse to use those spin lock collars anymore. i switch my weights up multiple times during most of my workouts and those spinners are way too time consuming. your muscles have frozen over by the time you've changed weights! lol

My standard weight set came with some terrible screw - on clamps that didn't clamp anything. I decided to try out these collars after a plate almost fell on my sister's head while she was doing dumbbell shoulder presses. These are the perfect size for a STANDARD bar (the one that weighs 25 lbs). The fit is tight and very secure. I can't see how these would fit on an Olympic bar.

EDIT (4/27/14): These things are champs. They haven't shown any signs of becoming ineffective and I still trust that they'll hold. I've used them for approximately 6 months total (3 times a week) with about 15 pounds behind each clip (30 pounds total on a dumbbell with 1 clip on either side) and they hold as well as day 1. I have always been a bit skeptical about how tight the weight is clamped onto the dumbbell (especially for moves in front of my face), but I am feeling good about these clamps now. They don't let the weights slide around. I wish the handles were just slightly larger so it'd be easier to take them off, but I also don't have very strong hands, so that's partly my problem.

These would be great, but they are too loose on my 1 inch dumbbell set so I can't use them at all with those, and although I could use them on the 1 inch barbell, they don't hold the weights as tightly as I would like and I fear the heavier the weight, the greater risk of them sliding. I purchased them based on the "frequently bought together" feature when I purchased both the dumbbells and barbell without reading the reviews, so my bad there as I always read reviews.

Works as intended. I had bought a bar here on amazon also and bought these that work great for it.

These spring collars are strong, tight fit and high quality. They are not made for threaded dumbbells or barbells. But they might work. I have these spring collars mated to my CAP brand dumbbell handles and my CAP brand curl barbell. All 1 inch. I am so happy. Thank you, CAP. Low cost, with no compromise to quality at all. 😊

Not worth. Its fitting loose on my barbell rod as well as dumble rods. Complete waste of money
