Kodiak Furniture Phoenix Futon Set, Full, Barbados

I am happy with this futon and pad. It is attractive. I haven’t slept on it but I’ve sat and laid on it in the sofa shape. I’m 5’7” and my feet dangle a bit when I sit on it as a sofa. So some might like a stool or ottoman if sitting. It is firm, but comfortable. I’m prepared with a memory foam mattress pad just in case it needs softening for overnight visitors. It was moderately difficult to put together due to heaviness and all the steps. But I did it myself alone. I am mechanically inclined and have tools. I used my drill to safe my arms screwing things together. I put this together a couple months ago and as I remember I needed a Square-drive bit and Phillips bit to fit the screw heads. I think people should understand the drawers are just freestanding drawers on floor rollers. I’m okay with that. Without them the futon still looks great. The side table ends, or end-leafs, fold up or down. You will see that it requires a bit of clearance from the wall. The tufts on this color are brown plastic bars. So no buttons but buttons might be uncomfortable to lie on for that matter. I just need something in my apartment’s second bedroom for visitors. It is delivered in several large very heavy packages. I’m a mid-sixties woman with no others around, so I put it together myself. Given that, I feel like I might be a bit stronger than other women my age. Unfolding it to lay flat is not too hard. Folding it back to a sofa is harder. I’ve watched videos on this and it basically involves punching down the fold to aid in drawing it up into the sofa shape. I don’t think I would be up to doing that everyday. But it serves my needs It was expensive -but it was exactly what I needed. It seems to in the price range of comparable futons.

I don't often write reviews, but this couch is worthy of some kudos. Mine arrived undamaged, went together in an easy and straight forward manner, is made of adequate materials, is well designed and fastened together, and it looks great. The seating and sleeping comfort, while not top tier, is nonetheless comfortable and well suited to it's task. I'm completely happy with my purchase.

The furniture is solid and sturdy. There is damage to the inside of a few pieces of wood but it’s all covered by the mattress. Which so far is nice and comfy. I’ve not used it as a bed yet but I really enjoy the recline position of it. I am a journeyman mechanic but I’m small and injured. Was still able to put it together myself, but did struggle with putting the bed on the frame. I laid it out into a bed and then put the mattress on it then unrolled it from the wrapping. That way I didn’t have to try and wrestle the mattress around fully expanded. I read other reviews saying that was the worst part. This small adjustment made it very simple to get the mattress on the frame. Then I just put it in a seated position and sat down on it to crease the mattress. The drawers are not deep, but I do have 4 blankets and a sheet set in them, so it’s perfect for what I needed them for. Overall, so far, I’d definitely say this was worth the money. I live in a tiny home so measurements were a big thing and this fit perfectly for the space I have!. I did have issues with shipping but I live in the middle of nowhere and there was a snow storm so I’m not gonna complain about that. But only leaving 4 stars because none of the damage could’ve been caused during shipping, as the packaging was superb, so that means they sent it to me damaged and that kinda pisses me off. But not so much I wouldn’t order from them again.

I love this futon. It is very well made, the mattress is very comfortable. Have not slept on it yet but it feels great laying on it. The color is beautiful. The seller was great. The drawers did not come with the rest of it. I contacted the seller and within a week they were received. The drawers easily store a couple pillow, blankets and sheets. (I did put them in vacuum bags) I Would recommend this product a 100%. Thinking of getting a second, wonderful product for the money.

The futon arrived and I was a little overwhelmed because I thought it was going to be difficult to assemble. I was wrong!! It was super easy. I pur it together in a couple of hours while watching TV. At the end, my husband had to get off the couch and help me. So the final steps will need a second person. But the pieces feel like quality wood. It’s heavy and the color was rich and beautiful!!! I bought this for my home office and it was money well spent. The mattress is going to take some time to settl in the sitting position, but it’s fairly big and very comfortable! The sides come up and down. Do when I am sitting on the futon, I have a place to put my phone, drinks, or a book. I did buy a slip cover to keep dog hair off of the original futon. The material is soft and velvety. A perfect dog hair magnet. All in all, this futon, It was a great choice.

I purchased this futon and received it about two weeks ago. I havve done a ton of comparative shopping and this is a excellent deal. I have had two other futons before this one. This is by far the best quality, very pleased with this futon. The assembly is pretty easy but it does take some time to assemble. I suggest doing what I did and watch the online video,,, I didn't even have to read the instructions. The futon is very comfortable when using it in the couch position. It is also very comfortable to sleep on, the mattress is more firm which I happen to like. I did find it fairly difficult to fold back into the couch position from the bed position. I then discovered another Kodiak video on youtube showing how to fold the bed back, special hand placement,, and it made a world of difference. Over all I am extremely pleased with this purchase. The futon is sturdy, comfortable and looks great. I have had compliments from several family and friends. I would recommend purchasing this futon, I doubt you will regret it.

Nice futon. Good quality, adult daughter uses every day as a bed & couch in apartment. Says it is very comfortable. Was easy to assemble, easy to use, durable. We're very satisfied.

My order shipped quickly and arrived in 4 boxes (main frame, side arms, drawers and mattress). Packaging was good and despite some damage to the boxes, the contents appeared to be unaffected. The following is a review of each component. Frame: Wood finish is satin smooth and pretty. It looks like a higher end piece of furniture instead of an assemble-it-yourself piece. The flip up tables are a great design feature and easy to use. The drawers give the piece a more substantial feel and provide decent storage. Unfortunately, there was a small splinter/chip out of one arm and one piece of the frame back that was missing finish. I assembled it anyway hoping they would be hidden and they are for the most part but IMO imperfections should not be in a final product at this price point. Assembly was straight forward. Most of it can be done with one person (arm assembly needs two). Any difficulty was a result of not reading the directions carefully. The frame feels sturdy but creaks when someone sits down (in couch position). That’s a bit annoying. Mattress: There are major issues here. The cover on mine was misaligned and the piping that should follow along the corner edges was all over the place (on one end it is a good 1/2” onto the face of the mattress and elsewhere had rolled to the opposite face). The mattress is tufted with no way to adjust the cover even if you could heft it around (it is heavy!). The second issue is that the loose cotton padding inside had shifted, leaving one end with bulges and the other end with virtually no padding at all (just a big hollow space). Again, no way to fix this. I have an older innerspring futon mattress from DHP that is a little worn but still comfortable and when I unzip its cover I find an interior cover encasing high density foam that surrounds the springs. When I unzip the Kodiak mattress cover, loose batting tumbles out. There is nothing keeping it where it belongs. One plus I will give for the mattress is the hinge feature. It does make it easy to fold into a couch position and seems to solve the problem of slippage. It is also firm and comfortable to sit and lay on. Bottom line: I love the idea of this set but am disappointed in the end result. For 700.00, I expected “perfect” not something with defects that apparently skipped quality control. It took 3 attempts to contact the seller (OJ Commerce) using Amazon’s convoluted messaging system before I heard back and all they could offer was a discount to offset the damage. Although the discount is appreciated it still leaves me with a defective set. One bright note: when I didn’t hear back from the seller I called the manufacturer to see if they could help. They responded immediately and without question offered to send replacement parts free of charge. I am giving this set 3 stars. It would have been 5 if I had received a defect free product. Buying furniture online is a gamble. Returns are cumbersome or near impossible so the customer bears the burden of fixing damage or accepting it as is. The most you can hope for (beyond getting defect free merchandise) is excellent customer service. In my case Kodiak outshone the seller (OJ Commerce). I hope this review helps someone thinking of ordering.
