Quality Switch
This switch is a great switch, I have never been disappointed with a netgear product, and this is no different. The switch is easy to configure and the setup is seamless. I am happy I made this purchase.

Great managed switch for a spot you canโt run additional power
Nice to have option for PoE power delivery โ it comes with an AC adapter but Iโm running out of power outlets where I needed to place the switch. Now a single cable from my PoE switch to port #1 on this little guy and voila no additional power needed. Smart Managed Pro so I can use all my vlans, link aggregation, and monitoring tools. This version does NOT do PoE passthrough (there is another model that does pass through on a few ports), it ONLY can be powered by PoE. Very happy with this switch.

Would be 5 star except for idiotic cloud based config utilities
Perfect small workgroup edge switch to extend your POE network without having to worry about plugging it in to power - easily expand a single POE powered network run into multiple gig-ports. Why all small 4 and 8 port switch manufacturers don't implement POE-PD on everything is beyond me. But if you're looking at the other features, consider this an unmanaged switch simply because of the ridiculous requirements to create a cloud account in order to log in to the management utilities. Netgear is putting an unnecessary burden on using their product. That said, it works just fine out of the box if you're not trying to do anything other than plug port 1 into a POE network and get 7 non-POE gig ports available for other devices without having to plug in a wall wart for power.

Unreliable, below the bar for Netgear
Expected more from Netgear. Variety of settings, latest firmware etc. Bought 3 switches, two went out within a year; bought another two; shockingly same story. One of the ports simple flickers LED occasionally and clearly has a dead port OR entire switch simply flashes all LED lights brightly and never boots up. Ports (before failing) would connect at 100Mbps and not 1Gig Resets (RJ45 jacks re-terminated), it's not cable, connection is 1GIg when switching to different switch port - unreliable connectivity. Firmware A and B flashed, significant amount of IT time invested. Garbage, unreliable, unstable.

Amazing switch for a small LAN
Was having problems with my unmanaged switch where i suspect a network loop was occurring that was crashing my entire LAN and internet and wouldnt be fixed until i power cycled the switch. Pretty sure unmanaged switches dont have any sort of STP to prevent this. This switch does and i haven't had problems with my LAN crashing randomly since i've installed this. Only thing i hated was having to pay a little more for something a $15-20 unmanaged switch couldnt do.

Requires Registration and other issues...
The reason for a lot of one star reviews is that when you first log onto this switch it asks your for a registration code or you can only access "limited features". As per another reviewer's guide, I suggest updating the firmware before proceeding. If you wish, you can then register at their website and get a short character code to unlock the device This is really a sad "feature" that Netgear has created. Customers who buy this "smart managed" switch are probably going to be familiar with other switches which don't have such a registration requirement. They may also experience some level of misrepresentation on the part of the manufacturer from the "register or we'll only let you have a subset of what we said you were buying" ultimatum when you first log onto the switch. For myself, I just needed a 8 port switch that was powered by POE, so this was not an issue for me. As I was curious, I went through the registration process and it was not too difficult. Got the code and keyed it in and it all the "features" seem to be available FWIW. They try to sell you their "Insight" subscription mumbo jumbo, but I'm not sure who needs it for this sort of switch. Also note that this switch takes a bit of time to become ready from the application of power as compared to a unmanaged switch. Another point to note for non-US customers, the wall power supply is fitted with two flat pins (US/NEMA) and has the following ratings: Input: 100-120V 0.35A Output:12V 1A Connector is a barrel plug with a positive centre. Note that the centre pin is a bit smaller than usual. If you power the switch via the POE port 1, then this is not applicable. In summary, this device appears to be able to operate as a "smart managed switch" but the need to register the switch and attempts to try to get customer on a subscription software is odious. If this registration requirement is unpalatable and/or the POE powering is not useful, you should give this a miss.

Just do it job
I been using Netgear for switches and NAS for many years and never let me down. The GUI is a bit complicated and outdated compared to other brand (more industrial style). The most important is that it need to work and once you figure out to set the parameters you don't have to change anything much often in the settings after unless you change a few thing in your home network. I din't use their Netgear Insight and bypass this process.

Mostly Good, with Mitigable Concerns.
Great little smart switch at a good price! My only complaint is with the latent 'phone-home' characteristics that manufacturers all seem to want to build into their net-aware devices these days, but that's easily circumvented by either leaving the management interface solely with an IPv6 address (assuming that your network is IPv4-only) or by implementing appropriate firewall rules upstream. Otherwise, I'm super happy with this rugged little workhorse!
