This traditional hand-made Cretan pithos pot originally used for storage of water, wine or olive oil; also used as planters and decorative pieces. Made in Crete using local clay (not cheap imported clay), this Grecian ceramic pot is a true work of art made by a master potter in central Crete. Second image shows pithos at the far left of the 3 pots. Cretans have been making ceramics for more than 12,000 years. They are used both for decoration and for storage of food, wine, olives, oil, and as plantars indoor and outdoors. The pots are made by extremely high quality clay and fired slowly; these time-tested methods, together with the working in a single piece on a wheel (as opposed to models made in casts or moulds) ensures the pots will last a lifetime - and longer. They are frost resistant down to -18C. A unique, hand-made work of art. The Pithari is a classic Cretan pottery design used for storage or a plantar indoors or outdoors
