Excellent for heavy chewers
My dogs are terrors when it comes to chewing. FINALLY I found these and am thrilled. I have a dog with a very sensitive stomach & we can no longer use rawhides or many digestible products. These buffalo horns don't shatter like cow hoofs, natural bones, or nylabones, don't have all the fat that pig ears do or calories that pig skin chewies do, & just generally allow them to chew & chew without problems. I've gone through many different products & these are just great. They are pretty heavy & I'd recommend getting a size smaller than you might think. My dogs are between 25-30lbs & they definitely prefer the smaller sized one as it's easier to move & grip. The smaller one also curve more which also makes them easier to maneuver & chew on. These are for serious chewers & I don't think light chewers would go for them, in my opinion. You do have to watch their teeth & I guess it would be possible to crack a tooth, but they seem just pliable enough not to be high risk for that. On several reviews people have noted a loud cracking that has made them take these away. I will tell you that it's certainly true. I was very hesitant at first but monitored my dogs closely & found that it's just normal for these. I thought at first parts were breaking off but they didn't. It's just the first bit of getting the initial edges down, after that it's not as bad.In the pictures, the straighter one is a large & after about 3 months has only been shortened by about 1 inch. The curled one is a smal that we got less than 2 weeks ago & is just been chewed on each end without loosing any length yet.

Worth the price
As a dog lover with power chewers, I am always on a mission to find toys they won't demolish the first day. I had been very hesitant about ordering these for my two 50 lb pit mixes, as I know sometimes these can look rather thin and brittle, but took a chance and tried them out. I have now had a medium for several months that is chewed on for hours daily and have ordered more of various sizes after seeing how these hold up. Despite SOUNDING scary while they're being chewed, these horns have yet to crack or splinter that I can tell upon checking them every other day or so. They're a little smelly...but nothing like many of the horns and hooves I have tried in the past.

Safer than a raw bone
Will last a long time. We throw in a little dry cat food and or peanut butter on the inside edge for his pleasure.Noisy on a hard wood floor. Likes to shake and throw it to get the treats out. Will last a long time.My son got one too for hi s silver back Blue Healer.Tried a raw beef rib bone (careful nibbler, not a bone gulper like a former large dog, BUT: Safeway butcher cut past the joints (to sell more crap weight) which left a little camel back hump bone which my young Blue Healer pup swallowed. Lost 20 pounds and threw up constantly for 4 days over the week end with no energy left over. Suddenly got better and avoided my planned vet visit.

They do not lose their horns like deer with antlers
First off, there is no such thing as a naturally 'shed' buffalo horn. They do not lose their horns like deer with antlers.I purchased the medium size to test out with my power chewer pit bull and although he will take to it from time to time, its my Min Pin that enjoys it more.Remember to supervise their time with these horns. They do crack and splinter and can hurt your dogs teeth if the horn is too hard or the hollow end too big. I will say its an okay alternative, but honestly I will most likely go with deer antler again next.

Update: First one was great, 2 and 3 not so much.
He's been working on it for almost a month and has hardly scratched the surface.Update: the first one was great. It lasted about 6 months and had no bad smell. the second one shortly after he started on it started giving off slivers and had a rotten water odor about it so I took it away and tried one more. The 3rd one didn't splinter but it smelled so bad I had to take it away and toss it. you could smell that rotten odor the minute you walked in a room. It smells like the rotten mud at the bottom of a pond.. At a loss for what to try next. Maybe antlers? IDK

Good for aggressive chewers!
I really loved the split buffalo horns, but they are hard to come by so I purchased this. Our pup loves it. Like others, I do notice that it splinters and it makes me a bit nervous. It does have a smell (not has bad as hooves) which is also a negative. The good thing is that it lasts forever. We have a pup that God through her fair share of dog toys and although she chews this daily, it's been over 3 months.

She loves these!
This is great for aggressive chewers. Keeps my pup busy for hours she absolutely loves it.It’s super creepy and gross when you look up close at it but I haven’t noticed a bad smell. It’s definitely not completely splinter free but the pieces that do splinter off are really tiny or they end up getting soft from the dog slobber. It is quite a heavy horn so I’d recommend this size for medium to larger dogs (mine is 55 lbs and it’s perfect size for her). I will continue to buy these and the price here is better than any I’ve seen.

great
Long lasting enjoyable chew. They don't smell, so these are good inside. My teething puppy keeps coming back to this. It has held up for over a month, with plenty left to chew for another month or two. When he gets big, we'll buy a big one for him. This chew is cleaner than a raw bone, and does not stink up the place like hooves do (hooves and bones are outside toys).
