Great Homeschool Learning
Caterpillars arrived in a very early stage with plenty of time to watch grow! I think 2/10 will not make it (one has a cracked chrysalis and the other did not hang in J shape). Iโm glad I got the kit with 10 so we can still hopefully see our butterflies emerge soon ๐ฆ Such a beautiful homeschool addition. Will definitely be an annual tradition! This is very age-appropriate. I love it comes with all the supplies needed

Fun educational kit with easy to follow instructions
The mixed reviews made me apprehensive about ordering this Butterfly Garden Kit but am glad that I did. Not only will this make an excellent centerpiece for our butterfly themed party, the educational aspect will last long after the party is over. The kit arrived on time and in excellent condition. The outside of the package was labeled 'Open Immediately Live Insects Perishable'. The box contains all the listed items and they are all in perfect condition. I ordered 10 caterpillars which arrive in two containers. Both appear to hold viable caterpillars. Since none have begun to form chrysalis' we wont know if they have all survived just yet. The easy to follow instruction sheet will make taking care of these fun and easy.

What a horrible experience
What a waste of money and upset kids! Got the set of 10. We ended up with 3 good butterflies in the end, 1 that could not fly, 1 that died, and the remaining either died while trying to emerge or just never emerged. - We started out with 10 caterpillars. 2 cups of 5. Within a day we had 9. Assuming one got eaten by another??? - Once the remaining 9 got into their chrysalises, 4 immediately fell. We ended up out of the 2 packs only having 5 (3 and 2) that stuck to the lid. We scooped the remaining up as suggested, put it on a paper towel, and leaned it against the mesh. - 5 emerged (HALF!)โฆ and out of those only 3 actually flew. Out of 10!!! *1 had crumpled wings and got stuck in the chrysalis (a floor one). It kept getting stuck on its back and died. Kids were horrified. * A second floor one had one good wing and a half wing, could not fly. * Third floor one was good!!! * Fourth floor one died trying to emerge * 2 of the 5 hanging ones emerged just fine! * 3 of the 5 hanging ones never even emerged!! Not the fun kids project it was supposed to be!! Never again!

Great butterfly experience
Such a fun experience! My son needed to observe something like a butterfly or moth from start to finish for his insect merit badge with scouts. This was so easy. The caterpillars come in a cup with all the food you need so you just watch them grow and form the chrysalis. Itโs so easy to transfer them to the enclosure since all you have to do is transfer the lid to the lid holder after gently removing the extra silk so they hang down. I wish the top opened the whole way though (it only unzips halfway). Itโs also a plastic top instead of mesh, but I donโt mind this because itโs easier to see them this way. Great experience for the money! Canโt wait to release them with him.

Awesome project!
Awesome project for my toddler to participate in. All five of our caterpillars made their transition into butterflies and we had so much fun tracking their projects and watching nature do it's thing!

Kids loved it
What can you say? Was purchased for a classroom educational experience for Pre-K and the littles were fascinated and excited to watch them develop and turn into butterflies. 8 out of 10 survived, which I consider good, and were released as butterflies. Fun and informative.

Successful!
I've ordered from this company each spring for the past 8 years. Each time at least 4/5 caterpillars make it to the butterfly stage. I've only had one batch over the years that didn't do well at all. The instructions are very simple to follow and the netting can be used year after year. Perfect for learners of any age!

Do not buy this if you're from Canada
I'm in Canada and they did not include the larvae. I paid over $100, they should not have shipped it to Canada if we weren't able to use it in Canada. Priced way too high for the quality.

I hope these few make it!
I am sad for the butterflies. Six were dead. Four were alive. But imagine traveling in a small dark container with six dead. I am nursing the live ones. I'll be surprised if they make it. Two have taken some sugar water. And one has fluttered a bit. I thought it took 3 weeks. It's okay though, at least it's an experience taking care of a few. Maybe Amazon will credit me half ($50) at least.

Dead butterflies
All the butterflies had died on arrival. The children and teachers were very disappointed. I would like a refund
