howl mockery at my boss...
...I crushed an entire 12 of piss-beers when I first rocked this album (more like demo) in the p-lot of my local Chinese take-out. After all, I even began wearing a denim jacket! I have so far glued at least $45 worth of black metal patches to said jacket and gargled with saliva once a week for 2 years since...

Don’t understand?
This band as well as numerous others have wasted hours or minutes writing on a topic they don’t even like or care about. Why spend time dwelling on a subject that holds no value to you? The older I get the less I understand the mentality. I would think it would be hard to carry so much hate and venom around. I couldn’t find a subject worth getting so hostile about and at the same time not believe in it. Does Islamic terrorism get them that worked up? Maybe some tunes about Judaism. Always appreciate good over used cliches.

Can't believe I'm the first person reviewing this.
If you love Leviathan, hell if you love black metal you need to own this, even if you have to download the damn thing. I own everything Leviathan has put out and this was the first record of his I ever bought. Picked it up eleven years ago (this copy is a reprint or something, I've owned this since 2003) and it forever changed my perspective on what heavy, dark, and evil music were. This is quite possibly the best Leviathan record though it is a collection of demos it has an undeniable cohesion from track to track and like all Leviathan records it's like a recording of hell. If there is anything darker than this in the world of music I have not heard it. Leviathan is the darkest, crustiest, coldest, most evil, most misanthropic nihilistic music on the planet, nothing else even comes close. Nothing. If you've never listened to Jeff Whitehead's music, I'll just tell you, You aren't ready, I don't care what else you've listened to, nothing can prepare you for an hour in music hell with Wrest. And that is why you need to buy this and redefine what you think "heavy" is. "This is a symbol! A symbol of Terror!"

The US Black Metal scene has always been different than those originators from the Scandinavian territories. While the majority of the bands in the Nordic icy lands want to be on top of the dance charts these days, American bands like Leviathan only gets fueled with even more mental demonism to continue warring onwards. The material from Howl Mockery At The Cross consists of remastered demo tracks, unreleased tracks, and a cover song (no, it's not a Darkthrone song). Though one could imagine how a Leviathan demo would actually really sound, they do not really sound different than any of Leviathan's "normal" studio efforts. Lo-fi primitive black metal is what you'll get here and nothing much else. For purists only.

one of the most iconic USBM albums
I've been listening to Black Metal for about three years now. I especially take a large interest in it during winter.I'll skip the background on Leviathan. There's plenty of information about the solo project online. This album is with out as doubt my favorite album of Leviathan. Each track is unique and presents the dark aura of misanthropy quite well.

eh
This album composes of early demo's of Leviathan which means they might not all sound alike but its a good album though his music is soft and hardcore to at the same time.recommend to any fan of Leviathan or Black Metal Fan
