Works like magic
I tested this in dirty mop water to see how it worked (though I wasn't brave enough to drink it afterwards). This mop water was filthy and brown and I even had concerns about pouring it down the toilet. I put in one packet to a little over 1.5 gallons of dirty water, mixed everything for about 3 minutes, then waited. It took a little over 10s for me to start seeing the water become visibly clearer. After 10 minutes it was clear enough that I could use it for cleaning. After about 30 minutes, the water looked completely clean with some stray debris floating on top. THe bottom of the bucket had a brown muck.I purchased these to put in a survival kit in case I end up stuck in the wilderness on my way home from the supermarket. It hasn't happened yet because it's just a couple miles away but best to be prepared. The reason I purchased this large quantity was that it was on a Black Friday sale and worked out to under 50 cents per packet versus the $2 apiece for the smaller quantity.

Best purification system for what it is
I bought this and tested it without the plastic bag that accompanies it. I tested it on several different water sources and it did exactly what it says. The coagulation was kinda fun for people to watch. Getting the right skiing was a bit difficult at first. It advertises that the package is for 2.5 gallons, but I don’t carry around a 2.5 gallon bag or a 3 gallon bucket to purify out in the woods. I usually have a 1 liter or 1.5 liter bottle. Since I also don’t carry a gram scale with me, converting the 2.5 gallon package for a 1.5 liter bottle took some trial and error that I found rather taxing. I chose to error on the side of caution and went slightly heavier to avoid getting sick. While this did seem to work, the chlorine taste was a bit stronger than I expected and made drinking it a little difficult (no worse than those nasty chlorine purification tablets though). It really seems like these are only designed to support the accompanying 2.5 gallon bag. However, when/if you choose to purchase that, shaking 2.5 gallons of water for several minutes, and doing this a few times, becomes VERY difficult. These work great when you buy a scale, do the math figuring out that each gallon is 3.8 liters and then how much powder you need for your bottle, but short of that it’s anyone’s guess if you got the right amount for the size bottle you’re MUCH more likely to be carrying in an outdoor situation. I would like to see packets for something more reasonable like at least a 1 liter size, maybe a 1.5 liter size (.5 liter possibly but that might be asking too much?). However, under ideal conditions this really is a great product and I would still recommend it. P and G, please consider a more versatile option for real world application. I’m not gonna carry a 2.5 gallon bag of water with me on a hiking trip where I may need to purify water along the way

Pretty cool product. Does what it says.
Awesome product. Not sure how safe it is for the body (long term) but in a survival situation, this will do perfectly. Bought it for my bug-out bag... lets hope i never have to use it in a serious situation.

It got gross pond water completely clear
It worked to clean pond water, and it was quick enough to hold the attention of 8 and 9 year olds.We used this for a Girl Scouts Brownie Wonders of Water Journey demonstration, where we talked about how not every girl has access to clean water and sometimes they have to walk awhile just to get dirty water that can make them sick.We met at a local reservoir with a beach, so they could go to the water and collect it safely in buckets. The water was pretty gross: yellow and full of sand and other floating bits. (You can see the before in the back of the photo, and the after in the bottom.) We poured it into a clear container so they could watch it work and take turns stirring for five minutes. Within a few minutes after stirring, most of the gunk had already sunk to the bottom. Even other adults and kids playing nearby had stopped to watch. We filtered it through a cotton shirt and it caught all the waste and left completely clear water. The water had a faint chlorine smell. I did taste it as part of the demo with a very small sip and it reminded me of drinking water from a hose as a kid. It's possible the taste would be diluted if we had actually spread the packet out over the 10 liters it says you can use one packet for instead of the smaller amount of water we did. Would I want to chug this? Not really, but I felt safe drinking it. I'll keep the other packets in our emergency gear to have on hand in case of natural disasters.
