desertcart.com: Fifty Shades of Grey: Book One of the Fifty Shades Trilogy (Audible Audio Edition): E L James, Becca Battoe, Random House Audio: Books Review: E. L. James is the Reigning Queen of Erotica - IT’S AN EROTICA NOT CINDERELLA. What do you expect to be exposed to when reading an erotica? What kind of plot are you anticipating? Edward and Bella? “A Stephen King” plot or “If I Stay”, maybe “Fault in our Stars”? No, then what? This story started as a Twilight fan-fiction but we simply cannot expect to see Bella, Edward and Jacob with the same kind of plot. E. L. James’s genius and unparalleled creativity choose another path to carve out and reap the rewards of greatness for such monumental feats. “50 Shades of Grey “sells around ten copies per minute if not second with the release of the movie and the WAY cheaper Kindle price. I had the Paperback and still got the Kindle Edition, it’s a great book: It’s an Erotica ladies and gentlemen. Do not look for Cinderella finding her glass slippers or any of that. Instead . . . look for the birth and rise of “Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele.” Every author is great in his or her own right and they all had a path that they took, let’s not discriminate someone who simply chose another path to greatness. E. L. James is the reigning Queen of Erotica and she has set the foundation for many up and coming authors and many who were previous unpublished, independently published or simply wasn’t selling, many of these authors have now seen significant success thanks to desertcart and the rise of 50 Shades, something to consider when throwing shade at the woman for her work of greatness. ---The review: The awkward Anastasia Steele, a totally believable character and so clumsy and awkward that women can identify with her and put themselves into her shoes is what adds to their addiction of the series, meets billionaire entrepreneur Christian Grey and the heavens tremble in their wake. I can go on and on with this but there is no need. There is no great plot like those seen in the works of her contemporaries for this author writes what some of them dare not, I cannot imagine one of my favorite author’s, Stephen King ,writing an erotica, the thought makes me queasy. Nonetheless, Christian and Anna embarks on a passionate affair, laced with lust and base desires, and the possessive Christian refuses to have this average girl he has fallen for slip from his grasp. This very thought is another reason for addiction, every average girl wants a billionaire and through “50 Shades” they can relive this fantasy over and over again and nothing is wrong with this, when life gets heavy and reality throws your dreams and hopes on the sharp edges, you find solace in fantasy and in fiction and in the breathtaking, seductive, alluring world of “50 Shades of Grey.” The book is basically romance, allure, seduction and sex. And Sex. And Sex, words crafted so carefully and perfectly they are like spells and enchantments, stimulating you to mental climax and if you are an artist/author/thinker etc, exposure to this work of genius is bound to bring your mind into commune with your own muse, with your own small still voice, with your own genius. If you are offended by strong sexual content, strong language and raunchy, fun, exciting sex, then maybe try reading something from one of the authors suggested earlier, for in this book you will find only what’s mentioned in this previous sentence, that which is bound to sweep you off your feet if you allow it to, do not resist, give in to it. I respect the author for penning this, it was risky and left her open to so much lashing but in the end, she achieved her greatness, as stated, E. L. James is the Reigning Queen of Erotica. Review: Skeptical at first, but LOVED IT!!!!! - I kept hearing everyone talk about this book, and that got me interested. Then, I started reading all the bad reviews on desertcart and almost didn't read it. So know that I was extremely skeptical when I decided to read this book, almost to the point of looking for things wrong with it. Yes, it's true. The writing is horrible. It was a great idea that definitely could have been better executed. How many times can you use the words flush, blush, crimson, and scarlet??? There are other ways to convey the same meaning. It got old. Fast. However, I was able to over look that, as well as the other writing flaws. This book sucks you in and you just can't stop reading. I finished the entire trilogy in a week. I couldn't stop. I read everywhere I went, even at work. Luckily, I have a job where that was relatively easy to do. :) While reading the first book, I did come across things that made me think "ehh... I'm not sure about this," but I kept reading because it just sucked me in. I didn't even know it was a BDSM novel until it was revealed in the book. That and the bad writing is what made me unsure I would like it. In my opinion, the sex scenes were better than your traditional romance novel. None (well maybe some, but not much) of that awkward wording that makes you think "people don't talk like this!!!" I was reading a sex scene in the 2nd or 3rd book and thought to myself, "I feel like I've already read this...." So yes, maybe the sex was a little too frequent and the author basically ran out of ideas. Because of this, there were times I was thankful that she just implied they were having sex and skipped over the details of it. Other than that, I thought the sex scenes were hot and well written. I did have a problem with the references to Ana's pubic hair, though. I mean... What 21 year old girl, virgin or not, doesn't shave down "there." I thought that every woman under the age of at least 30 (probably even older than that) shaved. Maybe I'm wrong though :/ (I'm 24 years old) Another major complaint: The whole "fifty shades of.." thing was only clever and interesting ONCE, when you read it on the cover of the book. I hated how she kept trying to push that. She should have just ensured that the reader got the meaning of the title (which you do get it eventually) and left it alone instead of using it everywhere "five shades of crimson", "seven shades of Sunday," etc... I was okay with it the first time she used it in the book, but after that she needed to drop it. I guess this goes back to bad writing and poor editing. I wish the author would have described in better detail what they both looked like, as well as done a better job of developing the characters. I also want to know more about what Christian was thinking along the way, how and why he got to where he did towards the end of the trilogy. I also want more details about how he reacted and felt towards what happened at the end of the 3rd book (I won't say what it was so I don't spoil it for others) I love Christian Grey. He is the dream (except for being completely messed up). Dominant, controlling, bossy, jealous, sexy, successful, etc. Of course you wouldn't want some or most of that from a man in reality, but I enjoyed reading about it. It's a fantasy, and I wouldn't have it any other way. He has to be extraordinary for any woman to want to read about him. Who wants to read about some every day guy?? I loved it. I also liked Ana. She acted the same way any woman would act in front of a man like him and she stood up for herself when she needed to. Despite the obvious problems, I LOVED this book and am so happy I gave it a chance, but I'm so so so sad that it's over. I want more. Now!!! I don't even know what to do with myself now. This has been my obsession for the past week and now it's over. oh, will I ever find a replacement, something comparable (better written this time, hopefully)??? Lol. Just read it and try not to dwell too much on the writing or some of the unrealistic or repetetive parts. It's a great story and definitely kept me interested. I even teared up in the third book. In a way it is so bad, but it is just addicting for some reason. I may even re-read it! :) I usually like to know the reading background of people who give me their opinion of a book because usually they rave about something and turns out that's the only book they've ever read so they have no basis for comparison or idea of what a good book is. Some of my all time favorites are The Red Tent, Hadassah: One Night with the King, Harry Potter Series, Dying to Please.

There is enough chatter about this book now, that people should not be surprised at what they are getting. Please don't read this book, and give it a negative review, just because this kind of explicitely erotic writing is not your cup of tea. I have read all three books. You cannot read any of these three in isolation. It is very much a three part story. Reading only this one, will leave you unsatisfied. This book ends at a particularly difficult moment in their relationship. If you stop reading here, you will miss the awakening that occurs in the remainder of the story. The end of this book is the epiphany that changes everything for Christian. Therefore I have written this review with an all encompassing viewpoint. This is, at it's heart, a story about two peoples' journey into emotional maturity. Christian is a troubled man. He has had an extremely rough start in life and it has left him physically and emotionally scarred. He is also extremely intelligent and charismatic. His method for coping with his issues related to physical imtimacy, is the dom/sub relationship. He truely doesn't believe he is lovable, despite being loved by his family. Anastasia is an insecure woman. She is relatively young and completely inexperienced. Throughout the stories, she struggles with her inablity to believe that a man as handsome, rich and sophisticated as Christian could ever want her. Through their relationship, these two people learn to accept themselves, accept love from each other and move their relationship into the realm of "normalcy". Yes, there is explicit, non-vanilla sex. Yes it is sometimes disturbing. But it is still a story about love, growth and acceptance. Isn't that what we all want in life?

I started reading this book wanting to see what everybody was talking about. I thought I would only read some chapters to get an idea because I would probably not like it. But to my surprise I couldn't stop reading chapter after chapter. The story gets to you, the way they met, the way their relationship is full of FIRST's is just great. I liked this book so much and I can't wait to see what happens in the next one.

One night I get a message on my Blackberry from one of my friends that says "You like reading right?" to which I reply "Yes....." wondering where this is all going and she informs me that she has been reading a book which she thinks I will like but it is a bit "mucky" (her words not mine!) She went on to tell me that the author had apparently taken some inspiration from Twilight which I adore and so I took the plunge and bought fifty shades of grey by EL James. I have to say I hadn't heard much about the book until my friend mentioned it but having looked online I have seen that in some places there have been talk of it being banned and it has certainly been marketed as a bit of filth. I have to say from the onset that yes whilst there is sex in this book in my opinion it isn't over the top and there is a whole lot more to the book than just sex as it has excellent characters who I found myself caring about. The book tells the story of literature student Anastasia Steele as she interviews young entrepreneur and millionaire Christian Grey and the attraction that is clear between them from the very start. Being rather innocent Ana doesn't believe that this gorgeous, sexy and somewhat intimidating man could be interested in her at all but it turns out that she has got very much under the skin of Christian. Christian has some demons which pretty much seem to consume him and he has a deep need to control and this spills over very much in to his sex life to which he introduces Ana. From the onset with this book I have to say that I was completely hooked and I actually read the 514 pages in less than a week in total as I just wanted to get to bed each night and have my fix of fifty shades. The book is very easy to read and so it doesn't becoming a chore to read or anything and it is so very detailed that you can almost feel like a character yourself or imagine yourself as one of them at the very least. There are twenty six chapters in the book and these vary in length really but each one had me gripped for the most part. There was one chapter which focuses on a contract with rules in which Christian would like Anastasia to sign and follow as she becomes his submissive and this was all a little bit much for me to read as it was a bit boring for me if I am honest but this was just one small part of the book. The text flows easily and I would find myself thinking just one more chapter each night and would end up reading on and on until I literally needed to shut my eyes and sleep. Whilst the book is centred around a deal in which Christian would like to make with Ana about him becoming her dominant and her his submissive there is a whole lot more to the story than just sex and this is why it gripped me I think. As we go through the book we see Ana's hope that Christian may just want a "normal" relationship, we see how confused she gets by his ever changing moods and her struggle to understand him. I would like to see things from Christian's point of view too I think and how he feels at certain times but I suppose this just adds to the attraction to the mysterious Mr Grey. Anastasia Steele is a likeable character and I am sure most women could see part of themselves in her as she is completely in awe of this man whom she is clearly smitten by but whom she also thinks she isn't good enough for. I am sure all women have felt that at some point in their lives and so it immediately allows you to understand and go through the emotions that Ana goes through in the book. As Ana is inexperienced sexually we get to see her learn with Christian and it is not all about the S&M with him, in fact the bulk of the sexual activity in the book isn't actually centred around that at all. Christian Grey is a hard character to explain I have found simply because I want a man like Christian in my life! Despite all of his issues which are touched upon briefly in this book and I believe will be developed more in the following two books we learn that Christian has had a troubled past and finds it hard to be loved himself. Even though he has very specific sexual desires we see real touches of a gentle and soft Christian and it makes you really warm to this man. Having spoken to my friend, looked on twitter and such like there is a resounding "yes please" when people are asked would they like to sleep with Christian despite knowing all his issues and I have to say I tend to agree! I love reading the little emails which are sent between Ana and Christian as they add some small bits of humour in to the story line which can often be serious and dark. Ana finds it easier to talk to Christian openly via email and again I think this is something I kind of empathised with as a woman who has perhaps been so scared to lose someone that you don't want to always say what you think on the spot. The way in which Ana and Christian often refer to each other as Miss Steele or Mr Grey almost makes me long for a boyfriend who would do the same in all honesty! It is weird how this book has really got under my skin but it is a good thing as well I think as I prefer to really experience a book than just read one and not be blown away. This kept my interest and left me wanting more. As my friend had told me that the book did contain some S&M and such like I was a bit unsure as to whether it would be my kind of thing at all and I have since tried to explain it to other people who look at me as though I am mad when I say that I want a Christian Grey in my life but there is so much more to Christian than the need to dominate a woman and to be honest even in the scenes in which he is being dominant and Ana is being submissive it is done in a way which isn't over the top at all and still seems to come across as being incredibly sexy. The sex scenes in the book are very detailed and so you would need to be aware of this before you read I think and I have to say I couldn't sit at work or on a train or something and read this book because in parts I was visibly squirming because the author has done an excellent job of making you believe that you have once been in Ana's situation I suppose. I liked reading about how Christian showed Ana how things were done and how he referred to this as "vanilla sex" which is just your bog standard, basic stuff I suppose! The term has certainly stuck with me and I know it has with my friend too and there is another term "laters baby" which I will now always associate with this book too. I ordered books two and three of this trilogy when I was half way through fifty shades of grey and I have to say I am so glad that I did this because as soon as I finished book one I needed to read book two. Whilst I was aware that there had to be some form of resolution following Ana and Christian going their separate ways I have to say I genuinely felt Ana's pain in that moment and credit to the author for having the power to make her audience feel that way. From what I have read online there is talk of making the book in to a film and I only hope that if they do they manage to do the book justice.
