Draw Animals in Nature With Lee Hammond: Creating Wildlife, Step by Step Paperback – August 2, 2012

I bought this book for my granddaughter and she loves it. I kind of figured she would because I love mine! Lee Hammond is an excellent teacher and I am one who usually has trouble learning from books but not with hers!

If you can kinda sorta draw then you'll be blown away by what you'll be able to do after finishing this book. Get yourself a medium weight smooth Bristol board pad and an inexpensive set of artists pencils from the hobbystore and you have all you need to finish the book.Your progress will be astounding week by week. And it's a ton of fun.I'll bet Mr. Hammonds techniques could make a stick figure look real.

I love to draw and I love anything written and drawn by this wonderful artist. Lee Hammond's books are great for beginners as well as the polished artist. Her instructions and techniques are easy to understand and follow. Although I am a great artist, I like to use her books to help me bring out the best work of art that I can create. I want to be just like her when I grow up.

The drawings are excellent but I was surprised to find that it is all in black and white only. At least the cover discloses this by showing only b&w but I wasn't alert enough pick up the hint, but I like the book anyway.

While I am not fan of her other drawings as they are not realistic enough for me, this one is excellent. I am obsessed with Elephants and other African animals like the Zebra and Giraffe. This book will help me master techniques to improve on what I have learn so far. Great directions and most of her drawing in here are amazing.

I ordered this for the son (of a friend of mine) who is in prison. He seems to be a really good artist. I bought this book to help him. Is there any way you could help him in an art career after he gets out of prison?Bill WagnerWashougal, [email protected]

Love Hammond's style of teaching, although I don't think I'm ready for this level.... but that was my problem, not the teacher's. I am looking forward to doing more as my skill progresses.

I have several other books or videos of Lee's, and am a fan of her work, in general. This has some very good info on how to draw fir, feathers, eyes, etc. The process is pretty straight-forward once you get familiar with it.I have a couple issues with the book, however. She has some extremely basic and abbreviated info on how to draw some basic landscape elements, so you have some place to put your animals. I agree with the theory, but the info on landscape elements is so incredibly basic, it almost would've been better left out. Instead it just kind of takes up valuable space in the book, and isn't developed properly. Secondly, she refers to "my blended pencil technique" or the "Hammond blended pencil technique" throughout the book, and as far as I know, these techniques are standard art techniques which she certainly did not develop. She may have discovered it on her own, in her own time, but these techniques already existed.I'd give this book 3 1/2 stars. Definitely not bad, but could've been a bit better.

This is a great book among the others Lee has produced. Read the book a practice what she is sharing with you. The old saying practice makes perfect comes into play......work on small areas to get more comfortable....review your work, come back to it later a month or two and again analyze your work. See what you know now as you progress.....put in the work and the results will be evident....have fun.

Really good book for a beginner like me and I have already learned a lot from it. Lee's hints, tips and tutorials give the reader the feeling that all things are possible, you just have to practice, practice, practice. The 2" segment drawings really do work,and it is far less daunting to try a small square rather than a large blank piece of white paper. Easy to read, straightforward instructions, a great book! Well packaged and very fast delivery.

Lee Hammond is a very good teacher in art.If you think you can't draw? This book can show you that YOU CAN!Brilliant book for beginners and for those wanting to improve in art.

I didn't think it could be done - creating a realistic drawing full of contrast and texture all with just one pencil! I'm delighted to discover it can!
