Great Read!
Hostage Three is a beautiful book, besides the fact that the title can make it sound somewhat stridulous. This zestful and enticing book was quick to draw me in. Amy, the main character in the book is a teenage girl who has lived a rough life. Her story is compelling and reaches out to your emotions. The set-up allows the book to be an interest to teenagers who struggle in their own lives. Amy describes how her mother committed suicide and the heart-wrenching story sent an out pour of sympathy to me and most likely any other reader of this book. Although sad, like any other sob story, that’s what drew me in; the way the author was able to pull emotions out of me. Amy’s “mega rich” father married extremely quickly after the death of Amy’s mother, and like a lot of teenagers facing similar situations, Amy is not pleased with the “stepmother.” This allows young adult readers to feel as though they can relate to Amy. Over the summer, Amy is forced, against her will, to travel around the world in a yacht with her father and stepmother, only to find themselves fall hostage to pirates seizing the ship. Amy and her family end up fine, but it’s an unusual and, not so happy, happy ending. Amy goes through a series of emotions and the way in which her thinking process and outlook on life changes throughout the story leaves your spine-tingling with heartache and pride for this girl. This book is powerful, eye-opening, and sensational. This hair-rising story gives your heart a jolt that you’ve never felt before.

Compelling, Chilling, Thriller on the High Seas
A chilling tale of piracy in modern times. Hostage Three is a young adult novel, but is universal for all generations. I was hooked immediately. It is also a novel about how the loss of a loved one significantly impacts our actions, either positive or negative, and how our actions ripple through all our relationships.

Hostage Three
When I got this book I had no idea if I would like it at all. As it runs out the story is quite compelling. I love the fact that I had no idea how the book would end. It was thought provoking and I found it hard to put down. Slow star, but a very good read!

Hostage 3 is not like Captain Phillips
In the beginning I thought 'oh no, like Captain Phillips' but the only commonality was both were hijacked by Somalian pirates. As the story unfolds we learn about the rebellious teen's troubled family as well one young man's life growing up in Somalia. It is an eye opener.

Wonderful story, excellent insight into the lives of persons ...
Wonderful story, excellent insight into the lives of persons around the Horn of Africa and the dysfunction foisted upon them by greedy fishing trawlers and the dysfunction they generate within themselves. An interesting and deep heroine who changes throughout the story and her "hero" in an unlikely guise. His character is a revelation and the ending is so poignant. I'm ashamed for myself when I stereotype the people I read about in the news; this novel is an excellent corrective and is thrilling and impossible to put down.

Just when you think it's over...
I was almost pissed that the story was ending like that, and then the twist happened. Really enjoyable. Quite a few swears for young adults, but if you were held at gunpoint, you'd say the F word too.

Interesting read
from a teenage point of view. I didn't know the main character was a teenager, but I continued to the end of the book, I'm sure that I might have enjoyed this book more if it was geared towards an older audience.

Interesting read but would not recommend
Overall this is a very interesting book. It is the first time that I have read about such a different subject in fiction (Somali pirates) and I, not knowing a lot about them previously, enjoyed learning about the characters and there ways of life. The Somali stories and myths that were occasionally told were entrancing! However some aspects could be improved. I felt that the main girl was often quite irritable and although I know that this is intentional, I felt that there should have been more character development in this case. It would have shown the reader how this experience had truly altered her personality and way of thinking. Also instead of using quotation marks the author uses dashes to mark speech which takes a while to get used to and takes your concentration away from the story slightly.

Well researched
This book was well researched in terms of the countries it is set in, the tactics of the pirates and governments, and even an element of "Stockholm Syndrome" with Hostage 3 identifying and falling in love with one of the pirates. A book that held my attention throughout.
